  1. We got off on March 27th. We were in 11726 and 11728. Great location..quiet and not much movement. It was me (37), dh (39), dd14, dd11, ds10.

Like pp said we had a good time and enjoyed everything. This was our first ncl and our kids first cruise.

We enjoyed the shows. The food was good to grear. We actually liked the buffet better than rccl and we don't usually eat from buffets. Kids refused to go to kids clubs or teen area so they mostly hung with us or eachother. We did turn off kids ability to charge after the first day in yhe game room (apparent they had no clue how many times they were swiping the card).Rooms were Very nice and well kept.

My only drawbacks were very slow and Impersonal service in the mdr. Boiling point was last dinner where we completely ignored or forgotten until I got up and found the head waiter.

Not enough to do on sea days in iffy weather. The atrium only holds a few hundred comfortably and with 4000+ passengers it was crowded. I think we may prefer smaller ships.

I was on this cruise also, had a good time but not great. This was my 3rd time on the Breakaway and something just felt off. I agree it was crowded, the weather didn't help, forcing us to spend more time inside.MDR was hit or miss, loved raw bar ,Moderno wasn't that good, meats too salty and salad bar lack luster this time.I have a 15 yo son and I set up a cash account for him so he doesn't break the bank in the arcade. I will do the BA again but not this time of year or this itinerary,I'll stick to Bermuda .

  2. Hoping someone who has recently sailed on the Gem can tell me about the credit card hold OR experience with a cash account. Cruising with family members who have no credit cards and want to avoid use of their debit card for obvious reasons. After calling NCL we were told in order to do a cash account they need to put down $450 per person?!? We have the excursions booked, gratuities and DSC paid in full, and a drink package. Seems crazy that we would need that kind of money.

In terms of a CC hold, how much do they hold and for how long? Or is it just having the card on file to charge as purchases are made? Thanks in advance, this is throwing some major stress into things for our party of newbies and NCL customer support was less than helpful or sympathetic.

I've done all 3 types of payment, cc,debit and cash. If using a cc they usually put a 300 hold at check in and hold more as your spending increases.I had 3 holds put on my most recent cruise during the week, $95,$56, $109 . They just want to know that you have available credit to cover your spending. They were all gone by Tuesday after the cruise and the final bill was there. Same thing for my debit card but it all depends on your bank. I also separate my son from our account and use a cash account for him .You can put as little or as much as you like at the front desk, If you have everything pre paid you will only need to have enough to cover the drink tax while on port and any onboard purchases like dining ,spa, gift shops. .If you use cash and if you go over your deposit they will let you know and you will have to deposit more . Hope this helps

  3. Thanks . I understand the exposed pet and being above the even bigger balconys from deck 8 bit I was hoping for a review from

Someone who actually stayed in the cabin. Being so far forward how is the movement. Of the ship? Is it really far from everything?

I was in a M6 mini 8122 on the Breakaway, movement was a a minimum in my cabin, great location close to the waterfront and loved being so close to the water. I have an aft balcony B1 Sunday but will certainly be checking out my daughters cabin .I am pretty sure that you will have lounge chairs on your balcony ,if not ask for them. Happy sailing

  4. Anyone like , dislike? Booked 9116 for our first cruise.

There are 2 things that you may not like. The first is the balcony is exposed, so people above can look down on it. The second is you over look the M6 mini suite balcony. Both of those aren't big deals.I was able to upgrade my daughter into one of these rooms for next week .I think you will like your larger balcony.

  5. Sailing with a group of 12 this weekend on Breakaway. Need tips, experiences regarding reservations with this many people. We would love to do Teppanyaki one night but other nights the general dining rooms. Has anyone had experience trying/succeeding/failing at doing this?

Also, how does the tender ticketing work with the app? How early can you reserve these tickets? I'm assuming everyone has to do their own?

    Thanks!!

I am sailing this week also with a group of 12. Last time we had 11 made Teppanyaki once on board .

  6. Is deck 9 overlooked or noisy from the waterfront?

No, they can not see you from the waterfront. That area of the waterfront has a covering over it and nothing there ,its just a walkway from one side to the other ,no tables or anything. I'm in a deck 9 aft balcony next week on the Breakaway.

  7. So one of my coworkers was on the last breakaway sailing and came back complaining that the haven wasn't worth the upsell. She was in an aft facing balcony and paid an additional 1100 for the haven upsell. She lost her big balcony and said that the haven had nice features but they didn't use the butler. They used the regular pool because they didn't open the roof. And they didn't eat in the haven restaurant because they ate while they were out and about. So I am gonna stick with my large balcony mini suite on 8. I have other stuff I could spend that money on.

Im in an aft balcony next week, turned down the upsell to haven courtyard penthouse. I did not want to give up my aft Balcony for the haven this time. I figure it is spring break and it will be jammed with kids.I can spend the 1000 on my wife

  8. Which means exactly what? The DHS regulations state that an original or copy of a birth certificate may be used, so NCL was acting within the regulations by accepting the faxed birth certificate. (This is not the first time that I've read of a faxed birth certificate saving someone's cruise.)

An original or certified copy with the raised seal,it was neither

  9. On a trip to Bermuda, someone in our group had a non valid passport. She changed to her married name got a new passport and the old one was canceled, stamped with big red letters "canceled" and holes punched in it.After a few phone calls, NCL took a faxed copy of her birth certificate., so much for Home Land Security.

  10. Ok ,your going on a cruise, that should make you happy enough. Your in a great room ,I stayed in 8122 on the opposite side and loved the location. As for as not taking the haven offer, big whoop, there will probably be tons of kids running around so you would not enjoy yourself, just go to spice and it's free . Enjoy your personal sun deck in your mini suite.
