  1. Your money would be better enjoyed else where. But, hey, that’s just me. And BTW, I walked back and forth in front of the “cabanas” or maybe they should be called “cabana spaces or areas” on The Edge, and I just didn’t “get it”.  Just another way of CCL to rake in more $$, for charging for something that is not really real.

  2. Thank you so much! It sounds like you are having a great time. I agree, Quebec City is fabulous. We fell in love with it too when we cruised a few years ago on Princess NY-Quebec. We stayed a few days post cruise. How is the live music around the ship?

The live music is generally great. The evening shows have been very entertaining and is is always nice to hear the live Celebrity orchestra.

  3. I really enjoyed the daily newspapers and enjoyed reading news from different countries. If Celebrity is saving paper, have they also discontinued the daily crossword puzzles and sudoku games that could be found in the same area as the daily newspapers? I liked the crossword puzzles as they would gradually get harder each day of the cruise.

The daily crosswords and sodoku puzzles are still available on my present sailing.

  4. Thanks for the update. On a side note, we are overnighting on Quebec next year on a Princess cruise. What are your opinions on Quebec City?

Quebec City is very charming, clean, full of beautiful fall flowers and safe. Very walkable, except for the BIG CLIFFS!!! Haha...no worries with those as there is a FREE shuttle to take guests from the ship, right outside the terminal, to the heart of one of the lovely shopping streets. Then the shuttle can take you back to the ship again. DH and I actually like this city so well that we are planning on coming here on our own in the Spring. You will love it!!!

  5. I am disappointed as we are boarding the Summit on October 7. In regards to Elite cocktail hour, I have read the ships are transitioning to loading 3 drinks on your card. Do you know if this has been implemented on the Summit? ANY thing you can share about the cruise is greatly appreciated! THANK YOU.

@FlorenceItaly Three drinks per evening are placed on your SeaPass card and can be used at any bar on the ship between the hours of 5pm and 7pm. In addition, they still have the same two hour long cocktail party in the Sky Lounge (same 3 drinks per Elite Member) with the addition of passed hors d’oeurvers. I liked the chance however on this trip to use my 3 drinks in the OceanView Cafe or the MDR. Just to switch it up a little! You will love the SUMMIT and the New England/Canada itinerary! Plus you will be in good time to see the beautiful fall colors. Alas, we are a few weeks too early, but great cruise none the less.

  6. Sorry that I wasn’t more specific when I posted. I am presently on the SUMMIT. I am referring to the daily paper that you can pick up at the front desk around noon and comes in different languages. I AM NOT speaking of the Celebrity daily schedule that shows up on your room in the evening with the activities listed. When we found out on the first full day of the cruise that the 4 page paper was not showing up on wooden rounder by the front desk, I asked one of the front desk people about it. She said the company stopped the paper this summer because “you can see the news on your TV in your cabin”. I was like WHAT? First of all, who wants to be in their cabin to watch the news, second the TV in the cabins are like so ‘2000’s’....kind of kidsing about that but the satellite service is awful and third, Celebrity is making us buy WiFi just to find out what is going on in the world, for those of us who care even tho we are on vacation. Celebrity is trying to “dumb us down”. BTW, we are in Port in Quebec City and am using free WIFI, for this note AND for the news!

  7. We have 40 some ocean cruises under our belts. We wanted to try a river cruise, so we traveled on AVALON last year on the Danube and it sounds like our experience was similar to the OP. Wanted to try again, so this past year, we went on UNIWORLD to the Douro River in Portugal. The cruise line of UNIWORLD was top notch and we world go on another without hesitation. Plus Portugal and the Douro River are fabulous destinations.

  8. Just off the K-dam three days ago, and there is, without a doubt, smoking in the casino. The casino STINKS of smoke, and I just can not believe that HAL allows these smokers to ruin their ships. There are one or two nights that they highlight as "smoke free nights" in the casino, but the air even then is not fresh-smelling. What a stupid decision for the company to allow smoking anywhere on a cruise ship in this day and age.
