  1. We shall be visiting St Thomas in March on the Allure, arriving at Charlotte Amelie at 10am & leaving at 7pm.

    We are a family of 2 mid 40s, 2 early 70s and 1 10 year old.

We have never been to St Thomas and want to do something interesting with that is not ALL about snorkelling.

My parents are not water people & will have no desire to swim or snorkel & perhaps other than having a paddle in the sea, water activities will not be high on their list. That said, they both have said they would do a boat tour as long as they weren't expected to swim off the boat.

Does anyone have any experience of any tours that perhaps involved a tour of the island on land & then a boat tour where my husband & son could get off & swim, but wouldn't be too long for parents to be "stuck" on the boat.

    Any suggestions would be welcomed.

  2. We had a pullman over the bed on Indy. Never again!!!

We had a deck 6 aft balcony cabin, right on the very back & we found that at night the ship noise reverberated between the bottom of the pullman & the bed we were sleeping in.

The noise was a constant drone & booming. We even had the night staff come & take a look in our cabin as at first we couldn't understand what was making the noise, and assumed it was the air ducts or heating pipes that ran above our ceiling.

It wasn't until a few nights from the end of our trip (14 nights) did we try moving to the other end of the bed - which did improve the night's sleep.

Next month we are on the Allure & this time we have a sofa bed, and are looking forward to a better nights sleep :D

  3. We are doing a back to back on Allure in March & I'm trying to book shows etc & need some advice if any past cruisers can help.

Are there age restrictions on the comedy shows?

Will the comedy show be the same in both weeks or will it be different acts?

I'm assuming that the headliner acts will be different for both weeks?

Is there any way of finding out who the acts are before we travel, we are doing the 9th & 16th march.

    Thanks for any info.

  4. Often stay in the Sofitel Heathrow. You can take the free airport luggage carts all the way to your hotel room. There is a lift from the arrival halls then a corridor walk and then both lifts and an escalator down to the hotel reception.

The Sofitel is one of the easier airport to hotel connections I have done in the world and its a lovely hotel. Food is a little pricey but if you just want sandwiches you will find a Marks Food to go landslide at arrivals level (they also sell nice fruit plates and cake goodies plus premixed cans of alcoholic cocktails). If you want a sit down meal there is a nice Italian chain Carluccios landslide at departures level

I know this post was a while ago, however I'm looking for some advice. We are also staying at the Sofitel in March the night before our flight & wondered about entering the airport that evening for the restaurants/pub.

Is it easy to walk from the hotel to airport & back again? And what sort of restaurants are available to those who haven't checked in or gone through security (i.e not travelling that day?)

    Thanks

  5. We did a B2B on the Allure in October. The only ones who had to report to the lounge were the people who wanted to get back on the ship right away. We got off the ship and went into Ft. Lauderdale to "stock up". When we got back to the terminal, we showed our "In Transit" card that was given to us at the B2B meeting the day before, and was ushered to the next available agent who gave us our new sea pass card and on the ship we went. We had the same room.

We did a B2B on the Celebrity Solstice, last year where we had to change cabins. As stated above, we talked to our current steward, and our new steward, and they transferred all our stuff for us. We had to pack everything not on hangers into suitcases though. This was in Barcelona. We were off the ship by 8am and got back about 1:30.

We are also doing a back to back on Allure in March and as we have never been to Florida before I was hoping to do some kind of tour/trip on the changeover day.

We have the same room for both weeks. can you advise if you were able to leave fairly early & what sort of time would you need to be back at the ship?

If anyone has any experience of this or any tips of trips we could do, I'd welcome them.

  6. We are also booked on a March cruise (Allure) including St maarten & St thomas & hadn't realised this was an issue.

Can I ask the ESTA you speak of - is this the same you apply for before flying to the USA? Or do we have to complete a separate ESTA for these 2 islands?

If you book a ships tour - do they hold up the tour until you are through immigration? Or will it just go without you.

Roughly how long does it take to get through?

I haven't organised any tours yet for these 2 stops & clearly this may have a bearing on what we decide.

    Thanks
