  1. I am more concerned about touching serving utensils in the  buffets on ships.  We were on a Celebrity ship earlier this year where masked and gloved servers were serving the food in the buffet.  We were on a Princess ship last week.  It was serve yourself.  This does concern me.

Just curious on which port did you miss and what times did you get into the other ports?
how on earth can a ship miss glacier bay ? It’s a whole day’s worth of sailing. What did you do instead?

im sorry to hear about your experience.

We missed Ketchikan.  It was replaced with Icy Straits.  We got to Icy Straits at 4pm.  We also arrived at Juneau at 4pm.  Victoria arrival was 7pm.  After missing Glacier Bay, we chugged our way to Icy Straits.

  3. We just got off the Crown on Saturday.  We were really disappointed.  We had been to Alaska before so we know what a good experience it can be.  This cruise was not a good experience.  We missed one port completely and got into others too late to do anything.  We completely skipped Glacier Bay.  The weather was not great, but because of the engine problems, we could not stick around until the weather cleared, or we would be too late at the next port.  We felt really bad for the people who had saved up for an Alaska cruise and were looking forward to it.  We feel that Princess should have canceled all cruises on the Crown and rebooked passengers on a different ship.  Besides missing ports, there was horrible shaking at the back of the ship which made dining uncomfortable if you are seated in the back area.  There was also a sewage smell around midship on the ninth level.  These are all problems that are well known to Princess, but they have continued to book cruises on this ship.  We have no plans to cruise with Princess again.  We are very disappointed in their lack of integrity.

So the Sumner tunnel is going to be closed on weekends for the next year, which means traffic to Logan will be rerouted through the Ted Williams Tunnel. From the Seaport, the normal route is through the Ted Williams Tunnel and normally wouldn't have much traffic on a Saturday morning. With everyone now taking the Ted Williams Tunnel, it might be worse than before.

That being said, when I came into Boston pre-Covid, I was off the ship by 8:15 or so, and I was in no rush (back then, I lived walking distance to the port). I think a 10:40 flight is probably doable if you hustle.

Thanks for the advise and info.  I think we can do it!

That's pushing it.  If you book it, worse case scenario is you get the 5PM flight.  You will need to reserve an UBER. There aren't as many taxi's around like there used to be. If you are a gambling person, its worth a try.  The airport isn't that far but they do need to go through the Ted Williams Tunnel (toll) I believe.

Thanks.  Maybe the traffic won't be terrible on a Saturday morning...I can always hope!!!

  6. We have a choice of either a 10:40am flight or a 5pm flight.  We don't want to hang out all day at the airport, but we are not sure we can get to the airport on time for a 10:40am flight.  We always walk off with our luggage, so we can get off the ship quickly.  We are spending a few days in Boston prior to our cruise, so our preference would be to take the earlier flight if it is doable.  Thoughts?

  7. I called back.  We are booking through the casino desk and are getting a nice discount.  Because we have special pricing, we need to pay $60 per person per day for the upgraded package.  The upgrades come with $300 per person onboard credit, so the actual out of pocket for us for a 9 night cruise is $480 total for both of us.  We don't drink a lot, but we do enjoy good wines and my husband likes good bourbon and whiskey, so the upgrade makes sense to us.

  8. I am booking a cruise on the Silhouette in a Sky Suite.  My understanding was that all suites (including Sky Suites) get all the benefits of the Retreat, including Premium Drink Package, etc.  The agent I spoke with this morning said that we need to pay an additional $60 per person per day for the upgraded Retreat benefits (premium drink package, full wi-fi, higher onboard credit) since we are in a Sky Suite, not a higher level suite.  Does this sound right?  If so, Celebrity needs to change how they are presenting this on the website and in emails.

    Thanks for this!

I see a Celebrity offer for 12,500 bonus Membership Points on my AMEX Platinum for spending $500+ by December 31. I value the points at 1.5 cents each, so that'd be $187.50 in value. And it's pretty easy to redeem for 1 cent each which would put the value at $125, just like your offer.

I think I'll use this as an opportunity to put down more money on my Fall 2021 Canada/New England cruise (which I hope happens).

No cruise offers, Celebrity or otherwise. on my other AMEX cards (Hilton Aspire, Delta Gold, Blue Cash Everyday).

Thanks!  I just added it to my AMEX Platinum card.  I had no idea until I saw this.  We are also on the Fall 2021 Canada/New England cruise.  Hope to see you onboard!!!

  10. We are currently booked on the July 26 Alaska cruise out of Seattle.  We are waiting for it to be cancelled.  So far it is still a go, but that just does not make any sense to us.  I understand that this is over 2 months away and things are changing rapidly, but I do not think I would feel comfortable either flying on a crowded plane, or spending time on a cruise ship right now.

  11. I was able to get a large Kyss bag. I think it will be great for two of us with towels, snorkeling gear, kindles, phones, etc. We decided to also order a small one for kindles, phones, wallets etc for pools when we go to various resorts. Great suggestion. I had never heard of this brand. Thanks!

I am having a laughing fit visualizing someone hauling a lounger off, getting on the elevator then  carrying it down the corridor to their cabin, all the while the Kyss bag is dangling from the side. Yeah, that wouild be very inconspicoous! 😎

pretty funny!  I mainly want this for beaches.  But same thing, someone running down the beach with a lounge chair with a bag hanging from it.  Pretty conspicuous!

I love my Kyss bags. I have 2, a large and a small and have used them many times both on and off the ship. The only drawback is they are a little heavy with the chain so I bring an extra tote bag to use when I don’t plan to leave the bag anywhere.  Yes, you do have to attach them to something not easily portable. I believe they are made of a cut resistant material but probably someone determined could cut it but may take them some time.

Unfortunately, they are sold out of the medium and large.  I think the small will be too small to hold a couple of Kindles, phones and wallets.

We have a couple of these we use.  https://www.amazon.com/PacSafe-Travelsafe-Anti-Theft-Portable-Safe-Black/dp/B074SQLGMT/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=pacsafe&qid=1560629949&s=gateway&sr=8-15  We have season tickets to our local water park, and this always goes with us.  The nice thing, is it can not be cut open as it has a steel mesh inside the fabric.

Thanks.  We have a number of PacSafe items, so I will look closer at this.

It will not hold an IPAD but it depends on the size of your Kindle.  However their is a larger version called FlexSafe Plus that will hold these devices.

Thanks.  The descriptions sound great for the Flexsafe plus, but it appears that it is not available for sale.  I even checked their Kickstarter page with no luck.

  16. I am looking for some sort of safe, locking bag that I can put things in if I go to the pool on the ship or if we go to the beach in port.  I would like to have a bag that fits a couple of phones, a couple of kindles and a small wallet.  I have found some bags but they are either way too big or too small.  Any recommendations?  Thanks.

  17. We will be on the Ruby Princess in Mexico in mid-December.  This will be our first Princess cruise.  We are Elite status with Celebrity so we have been on a number of cruises, just not Princess.  We know that we can each bring one bottle of wine with no charge and additional bottles for $15 corkage fee.  We also know that "formal" night means different things to different people.  We are looking for additional tips and things to do so we can maximize what Princess has to offer.  All tips and ideas are very much appreciated.  Thank you!
