First question, I wanted to update our reservations to show the Passport Information for the adults.  Is there away to do this on line?  I can't figure it out.

Can you elaborate a bit more? Is there a place on the website that is supposed to "show" your passport information but is not showing it? Can you describe where on the site you want to see it and isn't showing it?

Other question we are sailing R/T Galveston and sailing the Caribbean.  Am I right that for the children who are under 15 we only need to provide Passports at time of boarding.

As opposed to providing a vaccination report as well as a passport? Our experience was that we needed passports and vaccination for both our kids, one of which was 11, and we had to provide this information prior to embarkation online.

Final question.  Is the wait to speak to someone normally one hour or more?

We just got off the Disney Wonder out of SD. Any questions we had for DCL that we felt better be asked on the phone, we had to wait sometimes up to 4 hours. Normally what we'd do is call in the morning and then put the phone away and come back to it within the last hour. Not kidding.

  2. Thanks ArthurUSCG for your response. Let me respond to the original post for the benefit of others:

On the website, it states that you're allowed to bring at the most 6 beers per adult, but can my wife and I combine it and bring a 12 pack? I guess the question really is, do the 6 beers have to be in it's own 6 pack package or can we bring a 12 pack in its own package and call it 6 x 2 between my wife and I?

Yes you can. We brought a 12 pack and it was just fine left in the package.

Same question for water, can we break out the individual waters from the 24 case package or does it have to be within the package? (with the understanding that each bottle obviously can't be opened prior to boarding).

We took out the water and carried what we could in each back pack. It was fine.

We have one of those foldable cart with wheels, something you lug around stuff, is this allowed to bring on board? It looks like a cloth version of a radio flyer wagon that you pull. This is merely for onboarding and off-boarding, possibly even on shore excursion.

If it can fold up and fit into a luggage, then yes you can. Ours was not capable of doing that. The only thing you can fold and lug around is a baby stroller but anything else we were told is not allowed.

We have another family member sailing with us but he's in his own room. He's agreed to watch the kids when my wife and I go on date night. Would they allow giving extra keys to his room for the kids?

You're right ArthurUSCG! Guest Services was great.

We haven't been to Ensenada in over 10 years, does anyone know if there's an ATM machine within walking distance of the port? Or maybe in downtown Ensenada?

There was an ATM machine in various places in Ensenada, but one thing I learned was that there are no longer ATM machines on board!

Aside from the La Guerre street taco stand, can anyone recommend a place that serves some really good ceviche in Ensenada?

It's actually called La Guerrense, but the one thing I can say is, to each is his/her own. We tried it, and... we had better Ceviche in Tijuana. There's a reason why these guys are popular but, maybe it was an off day. I'd be willing to go back and try it again in hopes that it really was just an off day.

  3. Just got off the phone with Carnival. This is what they had explained:

At the moment, there has been no cancellations for cruises already booked out of PR. They took down the sailings up until Sept because they did not want to oversell any sailings. At the moment it is not clear what the CDC will allow Carnival to do so they aren't selling any further bookings until Sept and until they find out what restrictions (if any) they will have to abide by.

If there are any cancellations, there will be an email but again, as of today there are no cancellations (Knock on wood).

All the brokerage house do this, not just Schwab

Not to sway away from the point of this thread, but if you're referring to my point about the ATM fee, which one do you bank with that offers unlimited atm fee refunds worldwide? I used to be with Ameritrade until 2012 and they didn't have this feature at the time.

  5. Here is some hope for those who have doubt:

This is the same cruise line that had a fire in their engine room that caused one of their ships to drift and passengers were having to go do their business in buckets on deck and they ran out of food that people were being served bread with mayo. That whole fiasco made the news, but people still came back.

Costa Concordia is a subsidiary of Carnival Cruise lines and we know what happened but again, it made the news and people came back.

I think the only time people will stop going on a ship if something happens like with Boeing’s issue with their planes crashing. It was a sure fire way of losing confidence in people flying on one of their 737 Max’s but so long as ships were not the ones directly responsible for this covid19 outbreak, people will still come back.

  6. First you need a brokerage account (like everyone else says) and as a cruiser, I would recommend Schwab. The only reason why, is you can open up a brokerage account and on top of that, an investment checkings account and the debit card that is tied to your investment checkings account (not regular checkings, this is important!) allows you to make withdrawals worldwide and they refund your atm fees. That means you can even withdraw money from the onboard ATM machine and get that atm fee back into your account.

Secondly, as a fellow investor myself, take a look at the Carnival Cruise line charts since 1987. There are three times that the stock really went down. First was during the dot com bust in 2000, second was around 2007 during the mortgage financial crisis, which was a worldwide crisis mind you, and then this massive drop today which is the covid 19 crisis. If you look closely, there's one trend in their stock and that is that their stock has always recovered from their drop, BUT.. the trend is that it takes a few years to recover. Another trend is that there's an incline.. a slope upwards, not downwards.. so given enough time, the price not only recovers, but it goes up. Given these trends, confidence is not low. I wouldn't say it's really really high, but it's definitely not low. Its enough for me to want to buy now but I would recommend buy in small chunks and spread it out over the years. No one knows what will happen tomorrow, they could file for bankruptcy but that's tough to swallow considering that in 2010, they had 50% of the cruising market (that was around that time when there was the global financial crisis).

If by June they don't start sailing, I still would have confidence in them recovering, but it will take a lot longer and it would mean that they would have to really do some major hand holding and kissing ears to convince investors to start investing in their company to bring them back. Just the longer they're in drydock and not sailing, then it would take much longer to get back and recover. My two cents.

    1. I opted for a future cruise with an onboard cruise credit. I'm on the Carnival website managing my booking, but I don't see where I can see the onboard credit?
    2. Do you know if there are any restrictions for OCC? Can the credit be used for just about anything including Duty Free purchases like Jewerly or Liquor or Shore Excursions?
    3. There's CruiseCash and then there's CruiseCash bar. Can the CruiseCash be used at a bar or are bar tabs strictly for CruiseCash Bar? Trying to differentiate the two.
    4.  Anyone been in the GameRoom on the Fascination? If so, have you noticed a game there called Winner's Ringer? Played this on the Victory and could not find this game anywhere on land.
    5. For those who have been to PR, how is it like now after the storm? Is it worth booking a place and roaming around for a few days?
    6. Any recommendations for shore excursions that are kid friendly on the Eastern Carribean route out of PR?

    Thanks in advanced.

As I have the transatlantic sailing booked in June I'm more concerned about Radiance being in existence at that time. By June I'll settle for seaworthy and able to accommodate guests.

Not sure if you're affected but looks like i'm not going on that transatlantic cruise due to the Radiance not going to be ready in time.

  9. We have a planned cruise next year and Ocho Rios is one of our stops.

    1. Is there a liquor store someone can recommend to get Jamaican Rum? If not a liquor store, then where?

    2. What brand/kind of Rum would you recommend? I collect liquor from around the world so I would love to add something that you can't get in the states.

    3. Any other kind of liquor that you can only get in Ocho Rios?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

  10. We got off the Disney Dream and docked at Nassau on Aug 10. It wasn't our first time but I had a few questions about our experience and was looking for comments:

    1. We took DCL shore excursion to tour Nassau. Tour guide mentioned that Conch has been banned for harvesting for the next 12 years? Is this true? Does anyone know if this affects the price of conch? I am not seeing much online about this.
    2. Due to time constraints, we decided to eat in downtown Nassau and went to Sharkey's, where our tour guide suggested to go to get Conch Salad. Although we had intended to go to the Fish Fry or somewhere more local, this had to do. Several questions about Sharkey's if you have dined there:
      • Has anyone had their Credit Cards declined here due to fraudulent activity reported? This is what happened to me, and according to our CC Company, they said the decline was due to other people reporting fraud at that location.
      • What was the wait time on your visit? Took about an hour for our order to get to the table. Just wondering if this is a normal thing. Me and my family are islanders ourselves, so there's such a thing as "island time" where everything takes a while, but wasn't sure if this applied to restaurants in Nassau as well.
    3. If we ever go to Nassau again, we're DEFINITELY planning to go to somewhere local, BUT just in case that it doesn't work out again, where could I get Conch Salad in the tourist district in Nassau?
    4. I wanted to get some Cuban Rum (as well as Bahamian Rum) and on a separate thread here, someone mentioned a liquor store named 700 wine and spirits, which I did find, but they stated they hadn't carried Cuban Rum in some time. Can anyone make a recommendation where to get some? To be clear, this was 700 wine and spirits located closest to the port (I noticed there was a location that wasn't so close to the port on google maps). I was able to get some Bahamanian rum (Ricardo and Ole Nassau) but would have been nice to get some Cuban rum as well.
    5. Can someone recommend a cigar place in Nassau? I asked around, and believe it or not, people were directing me to a "tall and skinny guy standing in the street two blocks down." I saw a humidor at the liquor store (700 wine and spirts) but they stated it wasn't for sale (odd I thought).

Other than that, we had a good time. This was our second time to Nassau.

Just wanted to update everyone, got off the Dream this morning, there is in fact a Tiffany jewelry store on the ship.

Of course, just wanted to update. The other change was that they took the arcade out. Other than that, the ship was nice. Kids had fun so no complaints.

I would assume that the internet will still be available on board.

I would also assume that if the sat phone is illegal in Cuba, if you are seen using it there is the risk of being arrested.

Thanks for your response. We were actually more concerned about communicating on board while at port, not necessarily while on land. The sat phones are definitely illegal on Cuba but legal to use while on the ship (so long as it's legal in the country of the flag that the ship is flying at the time it's docked), but that discussion might be appropriate for another thread.

Looks like Cuba has a lot of options for communicating while on land. After reading some more, it looks like the customs officials will confiscate sat phones when you step off, but cell phones are legal with their sim cards.  Again, this question was more of finding out what options we will have while on board and docked. If internet is still available then we're good. Even better that we can get cell service on land.

  13. Family and I are planning to go on the cruise to Cuba on the Sunrise next year. Several questions:

    1. Does anyone know if Internet is still available onboard while in port in Cuba?
    2. We always bring a prepaid sat phone when cruising, just to give the wife peace of mind. Although we understand that this is not allowed in Cuba, is this allowed while onboard when docked? I'm pretty sure it is being that the ship is under jurisdiction of whatever flag of convenience it is flying at the time but wanted to check for sure.

Mainly, we like to call the family to let them know we made it on port, hence the question about communication. Normally we use whatsapp just to make a quick call and say hi so any feedback is appreciated.

  14. I will check into it. Thanks for the idea!!

One thing I forgot to include was that, they stop by some historical landmarks, like an old stone fort looking overlooking one of the bays that probably was affixed with a cannon long ago, a flea market, Atlantis resort (just the outside), and a beach near the fish fry.

  15. Looking for Safe Excursions in Nassau for Mom & 2 Teen girls. Please give us some suggestions. Thanks!

We had a 6 and 11 year old that we took on a island history tour that included the John watling rum distillery and ended downtown Nassau. If you’re on the carnival, it’s one of their shore excursions.

  16. We’ve been to Nassau once before and did the John Watlins tour, but I heard there was a Bacardi distillery and I can’t seem to find this on a map. I do see a Bacardi store but not a distillery. Are there other Rum Distilleries on Nassau that adults can tour?

  17. My recommendation would be to take a cab to Nirvana Beach Bar at Love Beach. It'll be much nicer, quieter, drinks, food, semi-private beach, etc. Get all the conch you want at Nirvana as well.

Thanks for the recommendation! I was looking at their pics online, looks great!

  18. the fish fry in Arawak Cay is your best bet- You need to cab there.

LOT of hawkers-- just be careful

or look at the Tiki Bikini hut too . comes highly recommended.

we are walking to Junkanoo beach

Thanks for the response! Can you clarify what “Hawkers” are?
