  1. I believe my parents on on the ship with you. They called me yesterday from Svalbard to let me know that they weren't going to have much internet availability. I then hopped on line and got some great screen shots of them from the port webcam. Sadly, it wasn't a live feed, but I managed to see both of them when it took a pic every 15 minutes. If you bump into a couple from Scottsdale, AZ it is probably them. First is a pic of the boat, followed by pics of them (to the left of the SilverSea logo).

  2. FYI - You are not limited to things that are on the list. My wife had asked for plain vodka, but while we were waiting for our room she noticed that the bars stocked Absolut Current vodka. So when we met our butler she asked him to swap out her vodka for the flavored one. He cheerfully brought her a bottle (and left the original, too).

So if there's something you want that's not on the list, just ask. The answer is usually yes.

And sometimes, you can even get items that are not even stocked on the boat. About 3 years ago I was able to request Sugar Free Redbull in advance. When we got to our stateroom it was there.

A few days later I asked for some more. Later the same day I was restocked. Judging by the language on the new cans, they sent someone to a local store to buy them.

I spoke to a bartender in the Observation lounge and she was jealous because they don't have any Redbull on the ship. I had 2 cans left at the end of the trip, so I gave them to her.

  3. This is what I carry with me when I travel (quite frequently for work).

With 16 individual pouches I can bring pretty much everything that i might need. From Advil to Zofran.

As to what to bring, here is what i would want to have with me:

    - Ibuprofen (Advil)

    - Acetaminophen (Tylenol)

    - antihistamine (Sudafed)

    - Any type of allergy medicine (Claritin, etc)

    - Tums

    - Immodium (cause you never know when you might eat something bad)

    - Guaifenesin (Mucinex, it loosens congestion. Good to have if you start to get a cold)

    - Heart burn medication (again, cause you never know)

    - Zofran

I'm sure that I have others in my bag, but this is what I can remember off the top of my head.

  4. I had no problem requesting Sugar Free Redbull to be stocked in my cabin. Four days into the cruise I needed more so I just asked the cabin steward. When I returned from the day's excursion they had restocked my room. We were at a port in Turkey, so I'm guessing that someone went to a local store to buy it because the cans weren't in English when they were restocked.

The bartenders were surprised when I mentioned Redbull because they said that they never see energy drinks on board.

  5. I hear ya. I can't sleep on airplanes and, since I tend to sleep walk occasionally, I don't like to take sleeping pills on a plane.

My wife and I honeymooned in Thailand. We took the 18.5 hour nonstop from LAX to Singapore in executive economy. I'm pretty sure it is the longest flight possible. One the way home I was awake for 30 straight hours. It was not enjoyable, but you do what you have to do.
