That is a crappy greedy thing for RCI to do.

It's pretty much the standard these days not just RCCL's who actually just recently made the switch requiring it for everyone 21 and up because of the abuse.  That being said, still no one is "forced" to buy anything.   If you don't like the stipulations, don't buy it or your other option is to try to circumvent the system which brings us to where we are today.

  2. For what its worth, i live just outside of Dallas and my 2 boys are in high school.   there isn't any Winter break in February that i'm aware of in the public school districts here.   March is Spring break but i've never seen anything as long as i've lived here for a Feb winter break.   Your concerns may well be moot.

  3. Carnival does not want a lower profit margin. They will sell you the same liquor you can get on RCI until outside US waters, then use the contract liquors. Nothing to do with legal or illegal, profit margin.

i agree but Carnival tries to cover it up. this is taken directly from their site in the Cheers FAQ which i find laughable.

    • Due to state laws, we cannot sell CHEERS! until the second day of the cruise (starting at 6:00am) for voyages departing from our Texas and New York home ports.

  4. Texas TABC law only allows for the sale of alcoholic beverages sold in port which were purchased in Texas due to tax regulations (or something like that). For RC cruises, you can immediately use the drink package to purchase but selection will be limited until the ship hits international waters. Carnival claims "due to state law, they can't allow the use of their package until the second day" when leaving from Galveston. Seems odd to me that Royal can but they can't. I would think the same law would apply to both...

  5. i ran across a similar question on another forum. A guy was wanting to celebrate his 50th birthday with a cruise. Had always done Royal but was considering NCL. What i had told them and I offer up to you as well, 25th anniversary is a big milestone! Congratulations by the way. In my opinion, since it sounds like you've cruised exclusively on Royal, stick with what you know but maybe try a different class ship and itinerary. My reasoning behind this is sure, you could try another line and everything might go without a hitch but...considering this is for a milestone anniversary, if you were to try something else and it was less than satisfactory, consider how that may tarnish the event.

Stick with what you know and is in your comfort zone for your 25th. Then try a different line at another time when if things don't go as planned, it wouldn't effect things as much.

either way, congratulations on making it to 25, here's to many many more!

  6. had one on our first cruise on the Mariner before she went to Asia. balcony's are a must for DW and I now but if the situation came up and we had to get a promenade room, we wouldn't hesitate. great for people watching . Word of caution, no different than the interior Oasis class balconies, you're neighbors can see straight into your room if the curtains are open. only time noise was even noticeable was during the 70's party.

  7. I find it hilarious that someone actually took the time to look up the POLICY QUESTION I asked in another thread about the kids club then accused me of being an awful parent for asking about leaving my child on the ship or accusing me of complaining.

Many of you are the ones making incorrect assumptions and statements. Not me.

as it seems, the OP was obviouslycomfortable with leaving their son on the ship while in port so i'm not surewhy any of this is even an issue for them

at what point did i accuse you of anything?

our son has medical problems but is an active, stable 9 year old. On NCL, we were told that someone has to stay on the ship at all times while he is in the kids club due to his medical problems. I am wondering if anyone knows whether royal carribean has the same policy or not? I would not be interested in taking an excursion away from the ship but maybe walking around the port area. And I have international service on my phone so I could be contacted in case of an emergency.
  9. He walked away to go to the casino to meet me....

seems to me that's all that needs to be focused on. If you weren't comfortable enough to allow your child to freely walk around the ship on his own, which is your right as a Parent, than the father should have made damn sure that the child was properly checked in to the kids club rather than rushing off to the casino.

Thankfully nothing happened as it turns out, your son sounds very resourceful and was able to navigate himself back to his room. Regardless of people agreeing with it or not, it's a family cruise ship. Kids are wandering around all the time by themselves. Staff doesn't have time to triage every child to determine which are "lost" and in need of assistance and which arent. As so many others have said, your son didn't appear to need any assistance based on the conversation with staff so they recommended what seemed to be an appropriate response of him going back to his room. Not being privy to the conversation, i have no clue what transpired but again, with the thousand of kids on the ship at any given time, if they had take in every child who was standing around unattended, they wouldn't have resources necessary to actually help the kids that needed it.

after 14 cruises, a seasoned traveler should have taken a few extra minutes....shame on Dad.
