Has anyone checked a bag with baby food in it onto a cruise?

I’m sailing Royal Caribbean next week for a 7-day cruise and would like to bring some baby food pouches from home. Carrying them on along with the other 500 things I’m carrying on for my 10-month old will be pretty difficult, so I’d like to avoid it if the food is okay to be checked.

It’s all shelf stable so it doesn’t need refrigeration or anything, and the pouches are in a box separate from the rest of the stuff in the suitcase (diapers, wipes, etc) to minimize the chance of them exploding.

There are stairways up from 5 and down from 7. No stairways from 8 to boardwalk other than the main stairs by the elevators

Ultimate flow rider includes instruction from staff, private flow rider does not. I believe the group lessons can have up to 8 people.

Not sure about an age limit, I think they just go by the Flowrider’s height limit.

Is there any way to improve the hard-as-a-rock beds on Allure besides packing my own mattress topper?

I’ve read from some people that they stopped providing egg crate pads.

On a 7-night Cruise, which night is duck served? I love duck but I don’t normally eat it at home because it’s very fatty. But I like to indulge on vacation. We’re going on Anthem in April on a 7-night Bermuda and Boston cruise, and we have the BOGO specialty restaurant package so we won’t be going to the MDR for the first two nights.

On my upcoming Allure 7-night sailing, Duck a L’Orange is served on night 2. It’s on night 2 on a 7-night Symphony sailing as well. May vary on other ships.

Does a jack and coke get charged at the same price as a shot of jack ($7)? Or does it get charged like a “classic cocktail” ($9.50)?

How has the Main Dining Room food been in your opinion? Have you had anything this week that you wish you could order again?

Oh wow, I thought Wonderland was Alice in Wonderland themed and just had fancy presentation and unique food. I definitely don't think I'd want to dine there now that I know the waiter picks everything for you. DH and I each have a long list of foods we don't like or can't eat.

Hello! Im going on my first cruise next year, and am planning on getting a 3 night dining package. I want to know if there's any way I could request or view the MDR's dinner menu for each night of our cruise so we can plan our meals ahead of time based around what appeals to us most at the MDR. Any tips for how I should go about this? I would want to see them all on day one if possible.

If your ship is supported on the Royal Caribbean app, you can also link your account there and select your sailing in the app. Then you can view the planned MDR menus (as well as menus for all the other restaurants) ahead of time in the app.

Royal has rolled out an update for the app. It is supposed to let you guest-to-guest chat (text) for free...Let me know if it really works...thanks...;)

I updated a couple of days ago and there’s a new “BETA” chat bubble in the top right corner of the Royal Caribbean app. I really hope it’s working when we’re on the ship!

RCCL announced 9/20 that free onboard chat is available on Allure of the Seas. The RCCL app for smartphones has an update effective 9/20. When updated, you will see a small chat ballon in the upper right corner of homepage (says beta). The smartphone no-fee onboard functionality is currently only on Allure. I am NOT a tech person, so I am sure others can chime in with the details.

I have no idea. They used to, then they changed up their website design and all the Royal Babies and Tots information went away except for the playgroups. Not sure if they’re wanting to phase it out, or if it’s just bad website design.

The nursery is usually open 9am-noon and 2 or 3pm-midnight on sea days, and 9am-midnight on port days, but hours vary by ship.

The nursery drop off has the $6-8/hr fee you are talking about. It’s offered for ages 6-36mos, and you do not have to remain with the child. There are also separate free activity sessions offered, but no childcare is provided in these cases and an adult must supervise the child.

It would help if you have a table just for your family. Let the waiter know you don’t want to linger and they will speed up your service.

 

 

 

It’s more difficult if you have requested a larger shared table. Then there are more people to serve and the staff tries to keep everyone on the same pace - they will serve appetizers, soups, salads and so on before bringing the main entree. Also tend to serve a more relaxed dessert with coffee/tea or after dinner drinks.

Thanks! That's a good tip as well! We've never been "group table" people and have always preferred our own table when possible. Hopefully with My Time Dining it won't be too hard to reserve a table just for the 3 of us, especially since we'll be dining pretty early to accommodate baby's 7:30pm bedtime.

Happily ever after could you please confirm the nursery hours when you sail? Someone in another thread posted the brochure and it looks like the nursery might be closed all afternoon for mommy and me play time on sea days and I’m wondering if that’s fleetwide.

Yep, I'll check it out and try and take a picture of the posted hours. I know the kids clubs close for a few hours in the afternoon on sea days, not sure about the nursery.

When you say "accommodate a baby", what do you mean? If you give us specifics of what you are expecting for the baby, may e we can suggest if any other cruise lines are an option. Nearly all cruise ships will allow you to sail with a baby.

I think OP meant cruise lines that provide staffed childcare for babies like they do for children. As far as I know, RCCL, Disney, and one Norwegian ship are the only options with childcare for children under 2.

I know, it’s tough! I took my 2 older kids on fantasy for 7 days in a balcony in 2014 and 2015 for around 3000 each time. (Florida residents) Now we can’t find one for less then 7k. I love princess and celebrity as well, but they don’t cater to the baby. No childcare option or splash pad etc. In a few years I plan to return to them. Just want to take my kids this year if possible and Disney and RCCL are the only ones who accommodate infants. Thanks for your feedback

Wow, $7k for a balcony??? We're paying just over $2k for our Allure Oceanview balcony in October (not a family balcony though, just a standard size). I definitely could never justify 3x the price just to sail Disney, so I understand you wanting the info about RCCL.

I'm sailing Allure with a 10 month old in just under 3 weeks, but I have no Disney Cruise experience. Will try to remember to report back then if no one has responded about cruising allure with an infant by then!

From what I've read (sorry don't remember the exact source), the nursery has portable cribs (like the ones you can request for your stateroom) available for babies who need to nap while they're there. If your baby will nap in a stroller and you bring it with you when you drop them off, the caregivers will try to get them to nap in their stroller. I can't speak to how quiet the crib area is though as I haven't checked it out yet, and it likely varies from ship to ship.

We had dinner reservations for 5:15pm and would get out between 6:15pm and 6:30pm. The servers did their best to serve us quickly, knowing we had a toddler who wants to eat and then go "ride the carousel".

That's great to hear! Hopefully we luck out the same way on our upcoming cruise. Worst case we say thank you to our server after the main course and dip out before dessert if it's taking too long and baby is getting cranky.

I know this is a super old thread, but I googled and had the exact same questions, so I believe it's still relevant. I am wondering if my Levana video monitor will be able to work (it uses its own channel and does not connect to wifi.) We have 3 cabins, one of them being a 2br suite all next to and across the hall from each other. We also plan to use the in-room sitter service on RCCL and I would prefer to keep a nanny cam in there to be able to watch my children with the adult sitter. This question isn't just for people who want to leave their kids and go prancing around the ship with just a monitor in the room. Good grief.

FYI, Royal Caribbean is discontinuing their in-room babysitting services (aka Sitters at Sea) at the end of this month. I just got an email about it a few days ago.

If your cruise departs on or before September 30th, you'll still be able to request an in-room sitter (if any are available). If you depart any later you'll be out of luck and have to use the group setting Royal Babies nursery (for 6-36mo Olds) or Adventure Ocean (3yo and up) for childcare.

Do you happen to remember how long your MDR dinners lasted? Our daughter will be 10.5mos during our upcoming cruise on Allure and she's great in a restaurant for about ~1-1.5hrs but after that she gets antsy. Is it possible to eat in that time frame without skipping a course, or should we plan on skipping dessert?

But if you have the package, why not just order a captain and Coke?

I was under the impression you only got a Freestyle cup with the soda package. Is this not the case?

I sail on Allure October 7th. Luckily I wasn't planning on using this service for my daughter during the cruise, because she'll be just under the 1-year age minimum. But that really stinks for anyone who was planning on using it soon. 2 weeks notice [emoji849]
