My husband doesn't drink alcohol at all. He still gets his money's worth with the Free at Sea beverage package. He drinks mocktails and soda all day long. Mocktails cost around $6 - $8 (at least in March they did). He would have four to six glasses of coke (around $3/each) and four or five mocktails a day. Easily made up for the gratuities he paid for Free at Sea.

Unfortunately, Starbucks is not part of the package, unless you upgrade to Premium Plus. We've never upgraded as that would not pay for itself for us. We sail in the Haven where coffee/cappuccinos/espresso//etc. are included, so that's how I get my coffee fix. If you only have one or two specialty coffees/Starbucks drinks a day, you're probably best just purchasing these out of pocket, rather than getting the Starbucks package or Premium Plus.

Of course you could forgo the Free at Sea beverage package and purchase the Starbucks package if you don't drink as much soda/mocktails as my dear husband. That could also be a good choice for you.

Thank you - is the free at Sea the same as the soda pkg as I don't see it listed and the soda pkg doesn't mention juices that may be in a mocktail.

  2. Hello All,

Sailing the Wind 3/10-17th with another couple and have never sailed with SS - how important are dinner and excursion reservations.  I tend to eat in the mood I'm in and prefer not to decide 3 wks prior to sailing where I want to eat - I figure we can always have appetizers in the room and decide from there.

Also we have a large credit to use on ship but can't use it to book excursions until on the ship.  I understand if there is a specific excursion we REALLY want we many not want to risk it by waiting otherwise how tough is it to get on an excursion?  Thanks to all those with experience on SS

We are on the same cruise, the itinerary is:

    Bridgetown

    Bequia

    St Lucia

    Antigua

    Les Saintes

    St Barts

    St Thomas

    San Juan

We have been to all of these islands other than Les Saintes.

Doylestown, if this is your first time to any of these islands then check out the SS website and book an island tour. The most variety of tours is in St Lucia, not my favourite place but it’s great to see the Pitons.  In Bequia try to do a tour of the Tobago Cays or Mayreau. Great place to snorkel.

On a a side note, I noted that this cruise is now waitlisted in all categories, which seems odd since the cruise recently was not selling well (offering large incentives) and only recently had full availability in all categories.  Hope the passenger mix is representative of normal SS mix.

We too hope the passenger mix is what had on a similar cruise - we're going with another couple but I'm the one who basically chose this cruise - relatively speaking a great deal,  and feel responsible.  They don't want to dress for evenings but we don't plan on being joined at the hip.  Thanks for the input.

  4. We are sailing the Wind (First Time on Silver Sea) March 10th Barbados to San Juan and want advice on best excursions (NO BUS TOURS) you all have had whether through SS on book on my own - for example, some of our favorite tours in Travel were biking through the vineyards in Bordeaux or hiking up a rain forrest mountain somewhere in the Caribbean (more for my wife, I was fearful I was going to fall off the trail and die - but memorable).  Though a good beach is always nice - love St Johns beaches. Thanks.

  5. Excellent review - we will be taking our first SS cruise on 3/10 on the Wind.  One of my favorite cruises ever was on Seaboard Legend with 2 teenage boys who really liked it too.  Their only request was finding a similar ship with maybe a few others their age next time.  What I liked most of the Legend and am hoping for a similar experience on the Wind was dinner.  I found my fellow cruizers to be so interesting but not obnoxious - which doesn't work well with me.  It was so cool to watch my sons interact with them and listen to their advice (my older son was choosing colleges and majors at the time).  Our waiter told us of a woman who ordered a bowl of raspberries every morning but required the little hairs to be plucked out and they did it.  He said it was so disheartening for all the time they spent each morning to prepare this small bowl of fruit that would be gone in minutes - that person I would probably have to go out of my way to offend.

  6. Not to come off as arrogant, but it might behoove you to listen to people that have been there many times. Don't worry about what the printed material says. They really don't care. Just drink it in your room and not in public venues and no one cares how much or what you bring on.

PS, I'm sure, unless they've changed it in the last few months.

Thanks - I tend to be a rule follower because I aways get caught if I break them however I'm sure you know Oceania better than me.

  7. I brought my 2 sons on Seabourn with only 200 guests - they were 16 & 18. They said it was their favorite cruise yet because they found the people so interesting. I did too. I always enjoyed sitting with other passengers and hearing their story. I believe Oceania with be similar. My 16 y.o. did say that the only thing that would have made the trip better would be a few more kids.

  8. Back to the tips, you can bring alcohol on at embarkation and all ports. It is for consumption in your room. If you want to take the wine to dinner there is a $25 corkage charge. There really are no limits.

If you're a single malt or cognac drinker the Prestige package is a great deal.

Prepare for one of the most comfortable beds you've ever slept in on a cruise ship.

If you prefer any sodas other than coke products request them in advance through your Travel agent and they will stock them for you.

Any beverage without alcohol is complementary on Oceania.

There is a Captain's welcome usually the 2nd night of the cruise where generally 2 to 3 bars are open with very few restrictions. You don't have to go through the M & G line to get a glass of watered down punch, like they do on most lines.

To get a hot breakfast with room service you need to book a Concierge or higher room.

Some people really like the chocolate croissants, then others like my wife love the sticky bun.

The ice cream is homemade and some of it is fabulous.

Are you sure about bringing wine on AFTER embarkation from other ports - I understood it was only at embarkation could you bring 3 bottles 750ml?

  9. I can only comment on the ports in the first part of the cruise. Have all visited the others, but all a long time ago!

    Gibraltar

There isn’t a lot to see. It is a long boring walk from the dock to the centre of town. A ship’s tour will use a small minibus, and take you to the southern tip, up the rock to some view points and the apes and then through the (quite lovely) caves.

    Portimao

Agree that there is a nice walk from the dock to the little town centre and beach. There is often a ship tour to Lagos – interesting for the history – little museum and pretty town

    Lisbon

Wonderful city. Usually a shuttle to the centre of town. So much to do and the metro is easy to navigate. Gulbenkian museum is wonderful. The sights in Belem are also great, but very busy if big ships are in town.

    Leixoes (Porto) Portugal

This is on the coast, not on the river. But only a short trip in (20-30 mins), and there should be a shuttle. You need much more than one day to see all of Oporto properly. Cathedral, churches with azaleas tiles, the Borsa, river trips. And port tastings over the river. If it is your first trip, it might be worth doing a ship’s tour, which will include either a river trip and a port house tour/tasting or visit to the cathedral etc. and a port tasting.

    A Coruna Spain

The bit of the town near the docks is lovely, and well worth a walk around. And you are near the tower of Hercules – a Roman lighthouse still in existence. But the main reason to be in A Coruna is to go to Santiago de Compostela. It is an hour+ drive, and it is always crowded. But it is one of the places that you must visit once in your life.

Tsavorite - sorry to go off topic but love your name - it's my wife's favorite stone

  10. I booked a guaranteed balcony room without an assignment. I just learned today it's room 208 on the Legend which seems to be one of the worst rooms - it not only doesn't have a bath but is an adjoining room - my risk and my bad luck. How bad is this room and how hard is it to change. I think I rather have a non-balcony than an adjoining room and lower class bathroom - any advice. This is the first time cruising with Seabourn and I'm concerned:(

  11. I referred someone who had an ineligible (trade discount) rate. The criteria is strict and not always obvious.

Still have 2 coupons for someone...

I'm a first time Seabourn and just paid in full for 2 cabins - would love to use the referral coupons if not too late since I paid in full to the TA a week ago mapowers at comcast dot net

  12. Suites 100, 101 and 102 are category A suites. If you book category A1 guaranty you will not be assigned category A suites. I quite agree those far forward suites are not the most desirable since you will hear the anchor being raised/lowered. However, they are very handy to the laundry!

    Winnie

    Is the laundry self service?

  13. They should go to the referral sticky at the top of this Seabourn message board and post there that they would like a referral. They cannot be receiving any other shipboard credit ( except Carnival shareholder credit) in order to use the referral credit. They ideally should submit the referral when they make their final payment.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

If I made my payment in total last week is it too late to use/get a referral coupon as a first timer and if we booked 2 cabins can we get to referral coupons

  14. Hi:)....a good way to see if the cabin you are in has an obstruction?

Check the "Cabin thread" at the top of the forum. I realize having a

guaranty won't help since you may not have your cabin number

but the cabin thread has lots of great information on it.

Can you please advise where to find that thread as I can't find it - thanks!
