  1. I appreciate your commentary.  My husband went on a cruise alone a few years ago, his friend cancelled last minute and I could not go.  He met so many people that he still talks to today.

For drinks, I always ask for no sour mix.  It is a powdered mix that gives me heartburn.  I also ask for my regular mojito with 3 muddled lime wedges instead of the lime juice from the bottle.  I am assuming you have the beverage package, try new liquors!  For example, the GreyGoose Grapefruit vodka or try gin if you are a vodka person.

We signed up for this cruise last week, we kept asking NCL why we could only use the 10% on this specific sailing, they never mentioned that it was a Latitudes sailing.  We probably missed the mail/email mentioning this.  We thought it was a credit from all of the COVID cancellations we had.  The dates worked, so off we go.

Looking forward to Howl at the Moon!

See you soon, unless of course we get that uprade to a Haven.

  2. Rebellious fish are great, but they are rebellious, meaning they taste like fruit punch and sneak up on you!!!

Ask at the mojito bar for a "fresh" mojito, NCL has taken to using mojito mix, but you can get them at the Mojito bar, if it is not busy, and they will be more willing with a dollar or so extra.

    Frozen Mojitos are yummy also.

Just a suggestion regarding tipping. If you are so inclined to give your server/bartender an extra tip, they prefer cash. The amount that you add on to your ticket, goes into a mysterious pool that they will receive a portion of.

  3. If you booked the air through NCL, make sure you have it in writing that they will wait for you if there is a delay. If you only booked the NCL transfers, they will not wait for you.

We actually missed a cruise due to a same day flight being delayed by 3 hours. Colorado to MIA.

    We now do the red-eye.

  4. NYC hotels will be much more expensive. The reason to consider the Newark Penn Station Hilton or Robert Treat is the convenience of getting to Manhattan from Newark Penn Station for $5 instead of staying at an airport hotel and riding the hotel shuttle back to the airport, taking the airtrain to the train station, and then paying $12.50 to take the train to NYC. The two Newark hotels will shuttle you from the airport. You can walk across the street to the train station from the Hilton and the Robert Treat will shuttle you the few blocks to the train station.

Thanks again! We are flying into Newark and staying at the Robert Treat. We booked it through Priceline for $1 more it included breakfast. The aa.com did not include breakfast.

  5. Hi, Finally paid for our cruise (summit June 7-14 2015), out of Cape Liberty

The plan is to arrive June 5 late in the evening, on June 7 we are planning to do New York Tour 1, walking around NYC. Then the cruise on the 7th.

    Has anyone done this tour?

We are confused as where to stay pre cruise. A few months ago, you suggested locations near Robert Treat. That is about our price point.

If we are going to be spending the day in NYC is it more cost effective/time effective to stay in NYC than Newark?

    For lodging and transportation?

We are still working on flights, Right now they are all over the map with EWR being the cheapest.

(told my dh we should have bought airline tickets 2 months ago, they have nearly doubled ).

Thanks again for all of your help and advise!

  6. Thanks Shipstraveler. We stayed at the Hilton Gardens nov 2012, and it was nice. I have been trying to find out if they still offer the "Cruise and go package" and they kept me on hold for 20 minutes! Never did get an answer.

I did call the Hampton (across the parking lot) and they did say they have the package for 189. BUT you have to call the Hilton to reserve the cruiseport shuttle 30 days in advance. I don't think I want to take that chance!

Ok, so now to complicate things...We are debating adding 2 days to our trip to do some sightseeing. Our cruise is June 7-14 2014 Celebrity Summit leaving out of Cape Liberty. We have the flexibility to add the days either before or after.

We would like to see the Statue of Liberty and the 911 memorial. I know there is a lot more to see, but this cruise is already very expensive, so we would like to be as frugal as possible.

What suggestions do you ladies have for me?

  7. I checked the Ramada web site and that looks like the room price without any extras other than the free shuttle between the airport and the hotel. I don't believe you were told the correct information.

Are you coming from Colorado? Do you really need the parking? Are you sightseeing in NYC?

The Trinity package includes 21 days parking AND Cruiseport transportation for up to 4 people for $197 tax included for your date. This is a great value when you break it apart - figure you are paying 15.5% tax, so the base rate of this package is $170! Country inns charges $70 round trip for port transportation for two. If you scrounge around you can find airport parking for $8-10/day, so another $56-70 value. So that leaves $30-44 for the cost of the room.

When this package first became available, I contacted Trinity to ask them about it. They are very nice people BTW. It's a small Christan based company who always wish you to "Have a blessed day". They told me that the Cruiseport transportation is available only for bookings through Trinity - it is NOT run by the hotel and is not available through the hotel.

Did you call the Ramada directly on a NJ number or did you call an 800 number? Personally I would want to be talking to someone in the hotel in Newark who actually knows what's going on.

Of course you were right :o. I called them today, only airport shuttle. I have emailed Trinity just to see if there is a different package without parking. But if not, it still looks like a good deal.

    Thanks again!

  8. We were on the same cruise!

We were in 10320. When we arrived there was dust in the drawers, I wiped them out. Other than that, our room steward, Reggie was great!

We had a posh pass and LOVED it on the sea days. We also purchased spa passes. We had them on the Getaway. Once you purchase a Spa pass, you will never cruise again without the spa!

Food was hit or miss in Taste. I ordered Salmon one night and it was a hockey puck, sent it back and received a new one that was awesome!

  9. HI Carol,

Thanks for all of your insight into traveling to Newark!

Celebrity Summit from Cape Liberty, arriving 06/06/2015 cruise departing 06/07.

I looked at Trinity and then Ramada.com. Ramada quoted 139.00 (160.55 with tax) the rep on the phone stated the shuttle to airport and cruise port was included.

    Trinity had $199.

Since, in the past, I have been told one thing, and then found it not to be the case. Do you think that the Ramada does offer the free shuttle? or is it part of a separate cruise package?

    Thanks again!

    Deb

  10. If you wait until 10:30-11 to get to the pier, you may miss out. We arrived at terminal C at 8, (overnight flight, the next in line behind us was 9:15) they let us in the building at 9:45, through security and check in 10:30 on the ship 11:30. We were number 2 in line for the pass and I think the line behind us filled up in 5 minutes. I am guessing they were gone.

It all depends on how many people know about them. When we were on the Epic last Spring Break, we were in boarding group 14 and still purchased them.

  11. We've done the Epic twice and Getaway once. Overall I like the openness of the Getaway over the Epic.

I couldn't tell if you are getting 2 cabins or 1 if you are all sharing a room the bathroom situation of the Epic can be a little awkward.

If it is the last Blue Man, and you have never seen them, I might be tempted to do the Epic.

Either way, you will have a great time!

  12. Just off the Epic. Came home to snow:(

Yuliana (Yuli) She is a bartender and was in the Posh from 9-12 am, Maltings 9-10 and Osheehans from 10-12 PM.

If Jim Capik (guitar player) is on your trip, don't miss him. Truly a passionate musician. If you see him on the night that Howl is off, the musicians from Howl may join him for a jam session.

If you haven't done the barhop in Cozumel, I recommend doing it at least once. You can search their website for more info.

I am sure you will have a blast!
