On my last cruise over the holidays, there was no smoking in the Oak Room on the Noordam.

On our cruise on the Noordam over the holidays, we had no problem getting the regular coffee pods replaced. I would typically have 2 cups before getting cleaned up to go out in public. 🙂

Cup only from the Neptune Lounge. They have a Melitta machine that brews a variety of styles by the cup. It is much better than what you would get through room service.

My experience in Copenhagen last summer would make me concerned about making a flight to the US that early.
Disembarkation was disorganized after we left the ship. If I recall correctly, it took us about 20 minutes to find our luggage. The ground transportation area at the cruise terminal was chaotic at best. I don’t recall many cabs and buses for the airport were intermingled with buses for hotels with no signs indicating which was which.
It took us about 45 minutes to check in for our Delta flight, despite using the priority line. Passport control was a zoo. I would guess most of this was caused by lack of airport workers post Covid, but the experience made me vow to avoid Copenhagen at all costs.

Does anyone know if the Oak Room on the Noordam has been reopened for cigar/pipe smoking?
-
Thank you. I did not think to check their website.

I am wondering how these locations would be for my 88 year old mother who is not as mobile as she used to be. Are the walking areas paved and relatively flat, and how far are the parking lots from the attractions? HAL describes this excursion as “moderate” - perhaps due to the steps at the church?
Many thanks,
Don

You may try checking the HAL website again. I received a similar email and it took a few hours before the preliminary boarding pass appeared.

Using my very rusty Danish, I read that Flodhest is asking how to get the required travel testing in Hawaii before flying back home to Denmark.
They will be sailing on HAL from Canada to Hawaii and then flying home from there.
My guess is that Flodhest (Hippopotamus in English) may understand a reply in English from CC members in Hawaii.
There is a covid testing facility in the Honolulu airport.

Thanks, all. Very happy to have some clarification.

Does anyone have experience with this covid test? Just contacted HAL and they could not tell me if this specific test is accepted. I am thinking it is as it is a molecular test - molecular tests are on the list, but wanted to make sure as I would rather not scramble at the pier.
Thanks,
Don

Then it looks like she is headed back to Freeport on May 1. Wonder why.
Scheduled to be on her in July.
-
We are also booked on the 18 July cruise. Hoping if the Netherlands/EU is still closed to North Americans, HAL looks at moving the port of embarkation to the UK, assuming England is open for business.

Thanks, everyone. The OCD logistician in me likes to start planning early....

Would anyone have a guess as to when the 2020 European cruises will start to show up on the HAL website?
Thanks,
Don

We had a good experience with JiffyJeff last January. We were also a party of 8.

My apologies for the delay in posting these. More to follow.

I am currently on board the Amsterdam. Is there any information I can run down for anyone?

I have stayed in 171, but my nephew was in 173, so I have actually been in that stateroom. Ruth's answer is spot on, as usual. The rooms with tubs are slightly larger than the rooms with just showers - basically you have room for an extra nightstand and the bathroom is larger to accommodate the tub.
Hope this helps.

TheMoores,
Would you please be so kind as to verify you were in fact able to access a printer during your cruise?
Many thanks,
Don
Binocular Strength/Size Recommendation - Expedition Cruise
in Antarctica
Posted
Contemplating an expedition cruise in the near future and was wondering what people would recommend for optics. I am not a big fan of compact binoculars with their limited magnification and clarity in low light, but was wondering if anything larger would be just too cumbersome.
Many thanks,
Don
