They recently changed all of the tables and table setups to include more 2 tops and 4 tops so I don't think it will be an issue to be seated as a group of 3. Furthermore, the MTD deck changes sailing to sailing, but this past July, traditional was on Decks 3 & 4 while MTD was on Deck 5. As for a table by the balcony, you could talk to the Maitre 'D as soon as you board, but they usually assign every table in traditional beforehand, so you may have little luck.

Maybe if I email RCdining now I might have a better chance of getting a balcony table. 🤞

  2. I’ve just booked on Voyager, sailing in January (68 days to go!) and I had to book Traditional Dining as MTD was available for booking anymore. I’ve been on two previous cruises with Royal Caribbean and have always been on MTD but we did end up eating at the same time every night anyway so had the same table and waiters. I have a couple of questions about traditional dining:

    1. We are a family of three, can we have our own table in traditional dining or are the tables all larger than for three people which means we have to share?

    2. Is traditional dining still on deck 3 and deck 4 with MTD on deck 5? The Royal Caribbean app shows deck 3 as MTD....🤫

    3. Are there tables for three people along the balcony on deck 4? I’m thinking that would be a nice location so we can look down to the grand stairs when there’s entertainment. What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance 😊

  3. Thank you all. I guess the bed will be closer to the bathroom in my cabin. Not sure if I like that. I think it will feel more cramp. On Voyager of the Seas we had a Pullman and I love it that it's out of the way and its down even during the day so all three of us could rest/nap if we wanted to and there is still space on the sofa to sit. Why doesn't this ship have Pullmans for a cabin of three people?

  4. We are cruising in December 2017 on Ovation. We have been booked into the 8.30pm tradional dining when we made our booking in February because that was the only time available. We would like to change to MTD. We are a group of 11. Who is the best person to contact or email to increase our chances of getting MTD? We have two 10 year olds in our group and I'm thinking now 8.30pm is going to be too late for them.

    Thanks.

  5. We are a group of 11 going on a 12 night cruise in December in the Ovation. I'm having trouble trying to figure out the best dining option in the MDR. We would like to have dinner in the MDR every night together and hopefully all of us sitting together. We booked 8.30pm tradional dining because we were told the the other sessions/MTD was fully booked. We would also like to go for all the night shows in the theatre.

How do I coordinate dinner and entertainment so that it does not clash? For 8.30pm dinner, would we miss out on any shows? Should I ask to be wait listed for MTD? What are my chances of getting MTD for such a big group? Is early dining better than 8.30pm dining in terms of making it for the shows?

    Thanks you all in advance.

  6. Show Entertainment

    =================

    Royal Theatre

    -------------------

The timing and number of sittings vary (for no apparent reason). This makes it hard for passengers to do evening calendar planning, especially dinner times:

    • Day1: Headline act by Connor Bogart – 9pm
    • Day2: The Beautiful Dream - 6:45pm or 8:15pm
    • Day3: Headliner act by Sean Laughling – 8:45pm
    • Day4: Live Love, Legs - 9pm or 10:45pm..

What an awesome review. So much information. Thank you! I'll be on the ovation in December for a 12 night cruise to New Zealand.

I have a question about the show times and dinner. We are a group of 11. When we booked the only available time for dinner was 8.30pm traditional dining. We actually preferred My Time Dining and wanted to go on the wait list but was told by Royal Caribbean that because we were a big group it would be easier to all sit together for traditional dining. Anyway, looking at the show times, it looks like half the shows will clash with the 8.30pm dining. We would like to be able to attend all the shows which we actually did when we were on Voyager of the Seas a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed them. Back then there were always two show sessions and if you go for early dining you could make the late show and vice versa.

What do you or anyone else who is reading this suggest in my situation? Would the show times change based on individual cruises? Should I change to early dining/My Time Dining and hoping we get it since it's fully booked out now? Looking forward to suggestions.

  7. "The production shows at 9pm"...... Does that mean those who are booked in for 8.30pm traditional dining will miss these shows?

I do prefer 8.30pm dining because I find 6pm too early to eat and I was told since I'm going to have a group of 17 people it will be too difficult to get all of us into My Time Dining because it's currently waitlisted. I was told not to even put down My Time Dining as a second preference on waitlist because when a space comes up the system automatically changes our confirmed 8.30pm dining to My Time Dining if we are on a waitlist and not all of us might get it since we have all booked separately. Even cross referencing our booking numbers won't work as the wait list is automatically done by the system.

But if I'm going to miss any production shows on a 8.30pm dining then I'll change my dining time. I want to eat in the MDR for dinner every night as we won't be booking any specialty dining.

  8. I just came back from a cruise to NZ. I have a young child and it's almost impossible to go on land excursions without taking food for children because some excursions do not have any food stops. For example, an excursion we were on in Wellington started at 10.30am and did not finish until 3pm with no lunch stops.

I brought with us packaged long life milk, cookies, muesli bars etc (all packed and sealed), showed it to NZ customs and they said it was absolutely fine to take off the ship. She even made a comment that children need their food and you need to take these things for them.
