  1. Thank you for your replies! I am rather breathless!

What an amazing response from you all 😎👍

Political correctness I am afraid is the default in all western countries. The cancer of civilization. Eh?!

Anyway, I am - thanks to you all - looking forward to a future cruise with my Norwegian colleague.

We both work for a certain American parcel delivery company, just outside Copenhagen - Danes. Swedes and Norweigians together.

Pictures will be forthcoming in due course!

    Klausk

  2. Hello all.

Now, I am not American (not even Canadian:D)

I am European, Danish in fact.

So this is being asked as if I was an anthropologist, no insult is intended, etc.

Can I, being a man, book a stateroom with a woman I am not married to - and have no intention to marry? I know that many are being married onboard so they may get a dispensation.

We are just traveling as friends but it would be much cheaper if we slept in the same stateroom.

    Would the cruise company object?

Probably not, just want to be certain before I book.

    Klaus.

  3. You should get a dedicated underwater camera.

Your iPhone (or any smartphone) is used for many other things than taking pictures. It would be a big annoyance if it is damaged. Besides the battery will drain fast, especially if you use it for video.

I don't know the two cameras you mention so cannot comment on them. A Gopro would be overkill I think.

  4. The bottleneck in Copenhagen's port may soon be a problem of the past.

Time will tell, but the Langelinie port is being, if not supplanted, then supplemented, by the Freehaven, which has gotten a new (enormous) amount of space for cruise ships, where amongst others, the UNICEF Global storage is situated. The area has even been given a new postal code: 2150 Nordhavn (North Port). Formerly 2100 Østerbro -East Bridge (where the well-to-do are living)

If you happen to be in Copenhagen the 31st of August, you should go there.

    An all-day arrangement.

There are no english speaking arrangements. But be there at 11 AM to see the spanish 'Casude' climbing the vertical buildings. Should be spectacular.

Also a lot of Danish speaking tours around the area.

The co-owner of Noma, Claus Meyer, will sell his foods at several stands.

Nordhavn station is in walking distance to the arrangements.

I will be there to take pictures and record videos.

    And hopefully post them.

Do contact me if you have questions.

    Klaus.

  5. If I may assist by giving some more details?

Personally, I would take a taxi on Bernstoffsgade, right outside the pillars of the train station opposite the side entrance of Tivoli. Much less fuss.

But if you want to go by train:

Go to Rejseplanen.dk and choose the English version. Key in FROM:'Copenhagen Central Station' and TO: 'Kastrup Lufthavn' (yes it is odd - 'Airport' confuses the search engine, so please use the Danish word).

It is best to pay online. Buying at the station is NOT AN OPTION. Just so you know. Like standing in line to the Eiffel Tower.

Its on platform 5, takes 12 minutes with two stops, Ørestad and Tårnby, before you reach the Airport - in an underground station.

But you can have a more fun ride by taking the Metro. København H is not a part of the Metro grid. But if you are at Copenhagen CT/København H, go two stops north (all northbound trains will do), to:

    Nørreport.

First underground level is the ordinary S-Tog lines, which is where you will arrive. Next level down is the Metro, there are signs to show you where to go. Or just ask anyone.

When down there you discover a much more modern train station.

There are only two Metro lines in Copenhagen. You want M2, the green one - Kastrup Lufthavn - Airport

    Have a wonderful journey home!

  6. Well you have to compromise. There is not time on an excursion to take well-considered photos. Or indeed at the "golden hour" around sunrise/sunset. To do that you need to stay at a hotel.

You can take snapshots but mainly I would suggest that you take street photography style pictures instead. Otherwise you'll be running to catch up to your group all day! I know because I've done just that:D

  7. My , so far, only cruise was in a studio cabin on the NCL Epic. Apart from the funky colors it is a microcosm of solo-only passengers. I can highly recommend it. But the ship's style was a bit too relaxed for my style.

  8. What a wonderful discussion!

I see "America" as four entities (with extras): North (US and Canada, but not Greenland or Hawaii), Central as Mexico to Panama, South yes well south of there. And the islands in the Caribbean I call the forth subcontinent. Then there are the islands off the coasts. It is a controversial subject isn't it?

Some day I would like to take a guided tour throgh Chile incl. Easter Island. But not as a cruise. Still, if I don't get to do it, my bucket list would have a tick at South America.

I'll have a closer look at all your cruise suggestions.

    Klaus

  9. Hi all.

Thank you for your many and varied answers.

Velvetwater. Hello! The trip through the Panama Canal is yet another thing I would like to do, but in the summer I am going to Paris (re-tracking Tom Baker's Doctor Who adventure "City of Death" from 1979). And SO many other things.

Are you ending in LA? So you will be able to see the Pacific?! Arghh.

Fishywood: I cannot find any cruise going there. I had already looked. Would have been fun to have a Princess cruise, they are on my bucket list as well, having seen "that" tv-series when I was young.

Extra Kim: Like Antarctica I want to be on the continent, not an island just off-shore. I am a purist in these things. And I have looked for "real" Antarctic expeditions, way out of my league, sadly.

Keith1010: Yes, I shall have to do that. Thank you for telling me what I didn't really wanted to do.

    Klaus

  10. I would like to say that I have been to South America, you know for my bucket list. And Central America for that matter, but that´s not the point here.

I cannot take a three week cruise (Holland America has a fantastic three week cruise including a day in Cartagena, Columbia), at the most two weeks. The nearest I can get is Aruba or Curacao. I have looked for excursions to Venezuela but haven't been able to find any.

Does anyone know if any exist? Or do you need a visa?

    Thank you,

    Klaus
