  1. Unfortunately the only 'free-style' option is to go to the buffet.

My experience on Pullmantur has been they book you at a table with English-speakers, if you don't speak Spanish. I believe you can change to a table for two, if you want to - at the beginning of the cruise. A lot of people don't go to the dining room, I have found.

Also, if you meet people you like and the other members of your table don't show up, you can invite your new acquaintances to join your table.

    Enjoy your trip!

  2. My wife and I will also be boarding in Colon for the 2017 Spring Transatlantic. I have been looking for a rollcall, but I guess there may not be one. We will probably be arriving at the Panama City Airport the day before departure, so we were hoping to find others to discuss hotels and transfer arrangements.

I've had a hard time finding the roll call, too. I'm taking the Monarch from Colon as well. Arriving from Miami at about 2 PM. Staying at Riande Aeropuerto Hotel Casino the night before we board. Thinking of taking the bus from the shopping center. Or willing to share a taxi from hotel to Colon. Took the ship last year from Colon to Rostock. Satisfied enough to repeat the trip.

  3. To all Pullmantur prior cruisers

Is there a 110 outlet in the cabin? Do i need to bring a power converter?

I am on the transatlantic next week and it depends on if I bring my tablet or not Help!

    Thanks

I was on the Monarch last May. Since it had been a Royal Caribbean ship prior to being with Pullmantur, it had both kinds of electrical outlets.

  4. My wife and I, Luxamee and Dave, are considering the Monarch sailing from Colon on May 27th and are also considering continuing on with the Monarch from Lisbon to Berlin. The pricing is great and so many good ports. We've received pricing, from VTG, for an Ocean View Cabin. $407 PP all inclusive from Colon and for the Lisbon to Berlin portion of $762 PP all inclusive. That's 22 days with many interesting ports for $1,169 PP and including drinks. Although neither of us drinks much we do like a good mixed drink every once in awhile.

VTG gave us cabins, although we have not yet booked. The ocean crossing is mid ship on deck 2. The European leg is mid ship on deck 3. I wonder if these are guaranteed cabins or am I able to pick my own cabins for the same price.

Although the Monarch, is either owned or managed by Royal Caribbean, my understanding is that it is primarily a Spanish run ship. That is fine by me as I do speak classroom Spanish and love the Spanish people. We spent time in Barcelona and Madrid two of the most incredible cities on the planet. The only thing that concerns me, since I am 75, is having the dining room begin it's service at 7:30 PM. Can't sleep well on a full stomach these days. However, my wife wants to regularly eat in the dining room instead of the buffet. So, we'll eat in the dining room.

When booked I will join in with some of the other folks here on the roll call.

Welcome aboard - a welcome thought about dining is that as we progress eastward, and the time is changing, we are eating one hour earlier every night, so you shall after all be able to sleep after we are finally underway...

  5. Hi gogirl!

I've booked for the TA going FROM Panama to Lisbon May 27, as a single. I am SO looking forward to NOT having to take anybody else into consideration if I want to do something. I have traveled on two freighter trips solo - memorable adventures on both. Have traveled extensively solo through Australia, India, China in recent years, but have been pretty much a solo traveler most of my life. You'll have no trouble meeting people. Only drawback, usually, is that renting a car or a room is cheaper when sharing, but sharing sometimes can be a royal pain, depending on the person. You'll have a great time!

(Oh, by the way, I'm 73 this year - so even age doesn't stop the adventures!)

  6. I used vacations to go site. called them, but only got rates for a double thinking my sister would go with me, but she is unable. will call vtg tomorrow for single rates.

The single rate is twice the per person rate plus only one set of port fees and taxes.

Last time I looked the pp rate was 150 USD, so the singles costs would be about 420 USD TOTAL.

  7. I am trying to talk my family into doing the Baltic cruise in September along with a land tour of Europe but they are not as keen as I am. The cruise looks like a great value (under $500 all inclusive for 7 days) and I like the fact they spend 2 days in Stockholm and St. Petersburg. My understanding is you do not need a visa except for St. Petersburg where there is an exemption if you do an organized tour.

IF you visit Russia on your own you will need a visa. If you visit Russia with a cruise and DO NOT take a ship's excursion, you will not need a visa. If you visit Russia with a cruise and take an excursion NOT under the ship's aegis, you will need a visa. If you visit Russia with a cruise and take an excursion under the ship's aegis, you will not need a visa.

  8. I received a quote of $110.00 USD for 2 in a private car, but I am still shopping around for a better rate......I am willing to share a car service if anyone is interested

I have a quote for 110 for three and 10 per person if more(depending on where their hotels are. If you are interested, confirm and send me your hotel details. I am traveling as a single, two others indicated an interest. No confirmations as yet from other passengers.

  9. Hello, We are considering the May Transatlantic sailing on Monarch to Portugal. We know this is a primarily Spanish-speaking ship. DH speaks enough Spanish to get by, but I do not. I was wondering if I could find anyone on these forums who might be sailing on this cruise who are also English-speakers. I am up for the adventure, but I am afraid I will feel left out of most of the fun since I don't speak Spanish.

Don't worry, there will be a number of English-speaking passengers. I hope some of the information from the crew is given in English!
