  1. I also have a quick question about taking public transit from the cruise port to get to the city center (Nyhavn).  From the port, I believe we have to take a bus to the metro station, and then take the metro to the city center.  Can we purchase bus tickets on the bus without dkk? If not, can we pre-purchase bus tickets at the airport for use in 2 weeks? Also, can the same ticket for the bus be used for the metro? As in do I need to get 2 tickets?

    1) yes there is, but if it's a short trip they may be sitting on the lap and if they are more than 135 cm they can go without one.

    I just asked a Mother of 2 🙂

    2) probably closer to 500 kroner.

    3) there is people at the airport directing you to a taxi, they will give you the proper one.

Thanks, Danish viking! Do taxis take credit cards?

  3. Hi Danish Viking!

I remember I went on a Baltic cruise 6 years ago, and you were also the person answering questions here! Kudos to your dedication to this group and offering your time!

I'm back on another cruise soon that leaves from Copenhagen. This time there are 5 adults and 1 child (age of 4). We will be landing at around 10:30 am on a Friday, and the return trip back to the airport would also be a Friday, but a 10:30am flight (so likely need the taxi at 7am). I have the following questions:

    1) Is there a car seat requirement for a child in Denmark?

    2) For the 6 of us, with our luggage, how much would it cost to book a large taxi to get from the airport to Ocean Quay terminal?

    3) Is it possible to pre-book a large taxi, especially if we need a car seat for the child?

    Thanks!

    Sheila

  4. We will be docking at Gothenburg on the Regal Princess at the Skandiahamnen port. There is 8 of us so we are planning on taking a taxi. Will we need to take two taxis or will there be taxis that will fit 8 people? How much approximately will it cost (and how long will it take) to get to the Old Town Haga? Also, if we want to visit the Volvo Museum, how long will it take to get there from the port? Is the museum at all close to the Old Town?

  5. Hi Ultima_Thule,

We'll be docking at the West Harbour (LMA). There will be 8 of us, so we're hoping to take a cab to the Market Square. Will there be van cabs available to take all 8 of us? Or would we need to take 2 taxis? If there are van cabs, will it cost more than 12 to 15 Euro to get to Market Square?

I cannot give any guarantees but in my experience there always seems to be shuttle buses taking passengers into town and back when cruise ships are in West Harbour. Especially from quay LMA it should be foolish not to have some kind of service. Buses always show a sign with name of ship or line and a consecutive number (like Celebrity #1, Celebrity #2 etc). I think some local company might be providing the service for the cruise lines but I don't know any details.

Regarding taxi the trip to the market should be something like 4 km so it would be somewhere between 12 and 15 Euro, depending on time and number of persons.

  6. Hi Danish Viking,

Does the hot dog stand have a name or it's the only hot dog stand there? What is the best type of hot dog to try? :)

For open faced sandwiches visit Ida Davidsen

My favourite hot dog stand is the organic one located at Rundetaarn ( The Round Tower).

  7. dnylla, LOVE reading your reviews and tips and pictures! I'm leaving for the cruise in a week so this is really helping a lot! :)

dnylla/chuck99, did you note down the name of the stall where you bought your reindeer and salmon soup? Since both of you found it delicious, I wouldn't mind going for the same stall! :)

Yeah, the sea was rough on the second sea day. I've got my camera ready this time but unfortunately no disaster

Agreed, didn't know Rudolf tasted this good ;). The creamy salmon soup was also delicious

  8. Mmmm... ice cream. We'll definitely make a stop for that! :)

Danish Viking, I do have another question for you. If I were to purchase a single return ticket from CPH airport to Malmo C and back (not the family ticket), will I still be able to use the same ticket for bus 26 to get to the Freeport Terminal?

Also do you know if there is another train that goes directly to Lund? Or is it the same train as Malmo, just a further stop?

For ice cream´s there are many ice cream shops located along Strøget, including Ben and jerry´s among others.

But my favourite is this one at Nyhavn.

  9. Yes, our cruise leaves on Friday.

So I can pre-buy the Øresund Familie ticket at the CPH airport on Thursday, and use it for the trip from Malmo back to Copenhagen on Friday?

So you are departing by ship on a Friday because if its a weekend you can´t use the bus.

I don´t think that you can´t buy the Øresund Familie ticket in Sweden but just buy them at the airport.

The ticket is also valid in the bus so you don´t to buy the 24 DKK 2 zone ticket.

On the return trip you just buy the City Pass at 7-Eleven at Nordhavn station.

Its better to pay the first trip in cash because its 24 DKK but a single ticket to the airport is 36 DKK.

  10. Hi Danish Viking,

I finally made my way through this entire thread and I really appreciate all your tips and advice! I’ve come up with a plan (based on your suggestions) for our stay in Copenhagen before and after our cruise, and I was wondering if I can run it by you to make sure I got my public transportation right.

I’m arriving in Copenhagen on Thursday, June 20. Since my husband would already be in Sweden for his business trip, I will be taking a train (Train 1005) myself to meet him in Malmo directly from the CPH airport (86 DKK). We’ll stay in Malmo for the night and returning to Copenhagen the next afternoon to board our cruise. I’m guessing my husband and I could purchase an Øresund Familie ticket at Malmo C (SEK equivalent of 142 DKK) and get off at Österport. Walk over to Ørport bus stop, and take Bus 26 (24 DKK each) to Stubbeløbsgade. Can we buy tickets from the driver?

We disembark at Copenhagen on Sunday, June 30, which unfortunately means Bus 26 will not be running. So instead, we have to walk over to Nordhavn St., and take Train A or B to Vesterport, and then take Bus 9A or 5A towards the hotel. I presume this will only take one ticket (24 DKK each)? I still have to plan our day at Copenhagen, but our flight is not until 3pm on Monday. We are debating about buying a 24-hr City Pass (75 DKK), because we really only have 1.5 days in Copenhagen so a 48-hr one seems to be a waste. In order to be able to use the City Pass for our ride to the airport, we can’t activate it until say 12pm on the Sunday. That being said, our ride from the cruise terminal to the hotel will probably just be paid in cash. Do you know if we can buy the City Pass at Nordhvn Station? If not, I could pick up two at the airport when I land on Thursday. But can I keep the City Pass and not activate it until Sunday? There is a chance we won’t need the City Pass if we’re only taking the metro/bus from cruise terminal to hotel and from hotel to airport (total of only 60 DKK) so we’re considering it now. Any thoughts?

  11. Thanks for the great information! I think we'll do the Rundan Canal tour! :) Our hotel is right by it!

I don't know, but in general most shops and etc are closed.

    There is a boat sightseeing tour called Rundan Canal tour, first tour starts at 11.30 and arrives back at 12.20;

Other then that there are the traditional midsummer celebrations at Folkets Park.

This was last years schedule: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.malmofolketspark.se%2F2012%2F06%2Ffira-traditionell-midsommar-i-folkets-park%2F

This shopping galleria is apparently open as well: http://www.entremalmo.se/shopping/malmo/butik/oeppettider.php

  12. I'll be landing at the Copenhagen airport on Jun 20 and wish to go directly to Malmo central station, which is close to the hotel where I'll be staying for a night. What is the best way to get to Malmo central station from CPH? Bus? Train? How much do each of these cost and where can I get tickets?

After a night's stay in Malmo, we'll be taking the train back out to Copenhagen and boarding the cruise whenever it opens. What is the best way via bus or train to get to the cruise terminal (I believe it's Freeport)? If we get back to Copenhagen before we can check in for the cruise, is there anywhere that will store our luggage for the time being?

  13. You're absolutely right, I used the 21st to search. I did the search now on the 20th and the suggested routes are all buses and trams. That's perfect, thank you so much! You've been super helpful!

Yes the thing is though since 28th isn't available for search yet, I assume you searched for the 21st instead, am I right?

Normally that wouldn't make a difference BUT the third Friday in June every year is a holiday.

This means that public transportation are not using the normal schedule but Saturday schedule

for Midsummer eve and Sunday schedule for Midsummer day.

So do a new search and search from Londonviadukten to Djurgårdsbron and choose Thursday, June 20th as a date.

Not that many buses passes by Vasa so its usually a much better option to search for connections to

Djurgårdsbron stop and walk the remaining 400m. Its just across the bridge and the follow then signs.

  14. We're arriving on Friday, June 28th at 8am. I searched the planner and it recommends the route I talked about before, or take bus 53 and switch to city tram 7. But the first bus we could take is at 8:03, which I'm not sure we'll make it and the next one is at 8:30. So I thought we could try the other route with the bus, metro, and tram.

It shouldn't be too difficult, Slussen is more of a terminal though with multiple stops.

However this does not seems as the most optimal route.

When are you arriving? I am sure that there are better routes if you want to go by bus.

As you mentioned there is also the possibility of going with the ferry from Slussen or with the HoHo boats from Stadsgården.

  15. Thanks, Desdischado62! The SL planner is telling me to take bus 425 towards Slussen, then metro green line to Gamla Stan, then City tram 7 to Djurgårdsbron. Is this easy to manage? Will it be easy to find all these transfers?

  16. I also have a question about the public transport in Stockholm. Somewhere in the thread, I read that they no longer sell the pre-paid strips of 16 coupons. Is that true? I still see in on the SL website, but perhaps they never updated the website?

The zones are confusing to me, but are most of the main attractions (like Vasa, City Hall, and Gamla Stan) all in Zone A?

  17. Thanks Desdichado62! From what you know, do you think there is a need for me to (as a cruise passenger) go to City Hall in the morning to book a guided tour, then go over to Vasa and come back in the afternoon for the guided tour at the City Hall? Or do you think that it should be fine going to Vasa first and then going over to City Hall in the afternoon and be able to book an appointment then? We'll be at port on June 28th

Yes it is possible. Tower visits are sold separately.

However if you want to make sure that you have a place in one of the tower visits. It is recommended to buy a ticket for the desired

time in advance, but you can only buy tickets at the entrance and tickets are only sold for one day at a time.
