There are a lot of reasons people cough.   It would be absurd to make such a rule as if you cough you can’t cruise

I agree. I’ve got asthma, and it doesn’t take too much to get me coughing!  Can you say “too much perfume/cologne”?  (Passengers, not crew, btw).
I had a hard time with that on the Solstice in May…

Our Alaska cruise from Seattle leaves at 4 pm. We’re in concierge elite+  Any idea of when we can check in?

We’ve got an 11:30 check in for our Alaskan cruise on May 13th (in Seattle). Got the time assigned when we did the online check in.

  3. We were on the Solstice last September (early in the month) and saw the sky dancing during the last “at sea” night. I believe it was about 1:00 am. That was our 5th Alaska cruise but the only time we’ve seen them. Usually we cruise in May though.

  4. Does any one know anything about how the folks of Sitka are doing? Heard on the news that there was a huge landslide and 20 - 30 homes were evacuated. Sounds horrible!

  5. We're drinkers. Used to have about $1500 bar bill by the end of a 1 week cruise (for two of us). We're VERY happy about drink packages these days!

Usually mimosa or Bloody Mary in the morning, wine with lunch, something frozen/tropical during the afternoon if it's warm, martini's before dinner, white wine with soup/salad, bottle of red with dinner, after dinner drinks...

It's lovely not to have to drive!

  6. HAL has just the one drink package.

Not worth it to us since each person over the age of 21 in the cabin has to buy the package and we don't drink that much.

Actually, it says that, but I called to purchase instead of doing it on line, as on our upcoming cruise my 34 yr old son is joining us, but he doesn't drink, so I didn't want to pay for a package for him. It was absolutely no problem to just purchase it for my DH and me. I was very happy about that and they had no issues with it at all.

  7. Thank you. He is 34, but doesn't drink (he has Down's Syndrome). Just wanted him to have something "special" (non-alcoholic sparkling cider) to celebrate with too! I think the bottle will seem more special to him than a can of ginger ale, although that's also a very good idea and we'll keep that in mind too.

    Thank you All!

  8. I called the Group Administration Office about the potential of a group on board my up coming cruise. They told me there were less than 30 (at that time) people in the group. They'll give out information if you call and ask.

Interesting. When I called yesterday, they said they couldn't tell me how big the group was on my upcoming cruise... You win!

  9. Call the HAL Group Administration Office to see how large it is. If it's large, you might express your concerns in advance so they can let the ship co-ordinator know.

I just called to inquire about the group on our cruise,

(FYI, in case anyone else wants to do the same:

    Group Administration

    Email: Groups@HollandAmerica.com

    Phone: 1‐888‐425‐9477

    Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 5:00 pm)

and I was told that they couldn't tell me how big the group was - just that it "shouldn't" impact the cruise activities.

    I guess we shall see!

  10. So sorry to hear that you had that experience. Now I'm concerned about our upcoming cruise on the Westerdam on Sept. 5th. It looks as though there will be a group on board our cruise too.

I would absolutely cancel and reschedule on another date now knowing this, but we specifically chose that cruise because of the Labor Day holiday so I'd only be losing 4 days of work instead of 5.

Oh well, I suppose we'll just grin and bear it.

OP, please let us know if writing to HAL does any good, and thank you for your post. At least I'm going in forewarned.

  11. I had inquired about the same package for our upcoming cruise (7 night) and was given the same price quote.

They'd given me an approx. breakdown on costs:

includes access to Hydro Pool and Thermal Suite $250

initial suite beverage setup (2 bottles hard liquor & 2 bottles of wine – our choice on each) no idea - my guess is about $200 worth (they didn't specify - based on what was listed)

    $50 Beverage Card $50

    Pinnacle Grill dinner $58

    Culinary Arts Center class $90

    premium wine tasting $90

Internet Card for 100 minutes $55

daily turndown truffles - no idea

    deluxe flower arrangement $49

This total comes to $837 without whatever they're charging for the truffles (and beverage set-up might be less)
