  1. ... ok... here's my take...

I've not been on Disney (yet... I'm booked for next August).... so I'm going on second hand information to show the comparison.

We sailed on Carnival Dream with a few other families... some of which had only sailed on Disney before. Their overall impression... Carnival was a let down for them.

Food: Carnival was good... Disney was EXCELLENT.

Kids Programs: about equal... the kids enjoyed themselves.

Service: Disney... hands down. Carnival is good... Disney is Excellent.

Price: Carnival is much more budget friendly (although in my case... I'm paying less for 2 rooms on Disney then a suite on Carnival). You have to watch and really monitor the pricing... you can get good deals on Disney... but you gotta work for it. lol

I do very much appreciate that the number of adjoining rooms Disney FAR exceeds any other cruise line. I have a Teen Girl... I'm not comfortable putting her in an inside room "across the hall". I want to know when she comes in.... I want to know if she tries to leave... (she's a good kid... but still... It makes me feel better to know that they are in the adjoining room). There's just not that many on Carnival (or any other line for that matter). The "family" concept is just "That much better" on Disney. I love my kid... but... if you've had a teenage girl in the same room with you for any length of time... you'll understand why I would rather have her in her own space (I've got sparse hair follicles to begin with... I don't need to lose more dealing with her messes).

Are you going to have fun on Carnival ... ya.

Are you going to have fun on Disney... ya.

Are you going to notice the little details that make things "extra special" on Disney... ya

Are you going to notice the little details that make things "extra special" on Carnival... in my experience... no

  2. The two times that I've been to Labadee, that zip line wasn't built yet... Otherwise I would have been on it MULTIPLE TIMES.

If I'm not mistaken, there is sort of a "governor" on the speed of that ride. So it's not like standard zipline where if you let go of the line, it's resembles a comet reentry... (one lady on a tour we took in St. Lucia forgot to regulate her speed... Came in WAY hot into the landing... smashed into the tree... funny, yes... Bruised... yes... )

  3. I just got a little Dell Mini V (Ubuntu) ... it has a VGA out ... so I'm going to make sure I have a cable for that... Although the software that they shipped it with won't read the DVD's that I have ... yet...

I'm sure that will be a couple hours of my life I will never get back (on the phone with Dell support).

  4. I see an S-Video jack in there... Most current Lappy's will have an S-Video out... so... you could technically use it as a dvd player.

Probably has a VGA port as well.

Going to search through my nasty drawer full of wires that "I won't throw away, because some day I'll need it" ... I have to have something that will fit the bill.

  5. I've heard that Red Hook is just as good as far as getting on the ship... debarkation... utter confusion. Carnival (aka Cunard, Princess) leaves from Red Hook, while the Carnival Brand ships remain in Manhattan with NCL. I think the idea was to take some of the traffic out of those piers in order to rehab them... Although I'm not sure if Cunard and Princess will return to Manhattan when it's done.

RCCL leaves from Bayonne, NJ which was a dream for me (about 10 minutes from my house, no traffic... )

I'll keep an eye on those cruises for the future (depending on the outcome of my outcome of my cruise on Dream)

  6. Templed beat me to it. The bridge indeed is the Verrazano Narrows, which connects Brooklyn and New Jersey. It's quite bizarre for those of us NYers who ride over it all the time to sail under it.

... VZ bridge Connects Brooklyn to Staten Island...

    (we are ever so forgotten....)

    lol

Speaking living near a port, sailing past peoples houses, etc.... My old office was in 1 WFC on the 30th floor overlooking the Hudson, so I would see the ships go in and out all the time (summertime, almost every other day...) Being a cruise junky, it's very frustrating. I would see Miracle and Legend all the time. Plus, I could see Bayonne Cruise Terminal (aka Port Liberty) and Red Hook from my office windows... so I had the distinct pleasure of seeing mostly every line's ships in and out of NY Harbour.

  7. Ya... Midtown is not the best place for NY Pizza.

I work across from Grand Cetral Station (Chrysler Building)... and you really have to either go into the Village, Alphabet City, Soho...etc. for decent pizza... That is unless you go to Brooklyn... My fav... L&B's Spumoni Gardens... (well... at least for Sicilian Style)

I've not really tried any round in Broolyn though.... (Staten Island has it's own gems for Round Pies).

    Great review.... great pictures...

  8. Our friends had 9096 on Constellation... They did notice some noise... but not enough to ruin anything... at all...

The Cabins on deck 9 are right below the running deck ... so, if your listening for it... you'll hear it... I was in cabin 9069 on connie...... and I heard noise... but it truely didn't bother me.
