Happy summer - where-ever you are, where-ever you go. May your next adventures be covid-free and filled with interesting sights and people.

Many thanks for your lovely response. Hope you're healthy soon. I tested negative a few days after returning home and have slight "cold symptoms" remaining.  Dh has a similar case,  but is still testing positive.  We hand washed and masked, etc. but it still wasn't enough. For people with underlying health issues,  please be cautious, it can still find you.

Friends who were on Princess last year were put in a special isolation wing of the ship.  Are they still doing that or do you stay in your own cabin now?  They also were reimbursed for their days in isolation.  Is that still the case?

(Majestic May 5-13). I was quarantined to our cabin when I phoned to report my positive test result.  My Plus program was discontinued and apparently I will receive a credit for missed days. To date,  I have nothing to back that up. ( including credit).  There was no special area in ship.  At disembarkation I spoke with one other woman ( of three who tested positive on ship) who told me she had been upgraded to a balcony for the duration.  The ship was full, I was not moved when I tested positive.  Inside cabin for the duration, although that was fine for all the sleeping. All room attendant cleaning etc. was discontinued.  A special long form room service menu was provided ( who could eat?) and meals arrived promptly on trays.  Clean linen was provided.  Customer services were very good with check up calls. Negative testing dh was permitted the run of the ship. We were the last passengers off the ship and were escorted through customs by a back door.  A special Covid cab was hailed on our behalf ( additional cleaning charges were applied).

Disembarked from Majestic on Saturday. Never saw any little tables in the hallways.

Let down my guard and didn't mask up in the elevators...tested positive on Wednesday, fifth day being home. Didn't fly. Friends that I travelled with also have one person with similar symptoms. Two out of five. This is my first COVID encounter. UGH.

Felt tired and achy, then the cough started and the fever...on Monday.

Hope it doesn't last too long! Wear those masks....couldn't hurt!

So sorry you are sick.  Me too. Tested positive on Tuesday night and reported it Wed. morning on board Majestic.  Quarantined, disembarked on Saturday (May 13)with special escort.  Was told there were only three  cases onboard!  (??)Dh was negative so allowed run of the ship ( not sure how that is a good thing)!! He tested positive Sat. night after disembarkment.  I made it through 3 years of Covid with no infection,  then boarded Majestic May 5 after a delayed, disorganized and horrendous 4 hour lineup.  I believe that was the culprit along with people not reporting illness while on board.  Masked with N95's the entire time except lounge and DR until quarantine. That was my final cruise.

  4. We're considering adding a 2-3 day trip to Siem Reap (Anghor Wat) at the end of a cruise from Singapore and possibly returning to Singapore or to Hong Kong back to the US. Has anyone done this & if they can recommend a tour operator vs DIO ?

We did this post cruise in 2017. We flew to Siem Reap from Singapore on Silk Air for 3 days. We had an early afternoon flight and took the MRT to Changi from Harbourfront after disembarking. We booked a car, driver and tour guide through our hotel before arriving. The visa was purchased at the Siem Reap airport upon arrival. We toured the historical sites for 2.5 days, then flew back to Singapore for one more day. It was a fabulous trip and one I'd highly recommend. We discussed leaving some luggage in Singapore, but ended up bringing it all with us to SR. We found planning online very easy and our hotel was very helpful.

  5. We will be on the Saphire Princess this October, and are debating the best way to see Angkor Wat....should we take the ships excursion or do it from Bangkok? Has anyone experienced one or the other, and can give us some pointers? Thanx :)

We visited Siem Reap in January of 2017. Amazing place. We flew in from Singapore, so our flying experience isn't relevant to your question. We flew with JetStar ( a subsidiary of Quantas) and had no complaints.

I would like to give you a head's up about temple entrance rates though - they have increased.

"A one-day pass has almost doubled from US $20 to $37, the three-day ticket goes up from $40 to $62 while a seven-day pass is now $72, formerly $60. These rates were effective February 1, 2017. " This info. comes from Lonely Planet.

We booked a tour guide through our hotel for $40. daily. A driver and car were an additional $40. daily. We stayed at a smaller boutique hotel - The Rose Apple - and were very happy with our choice. The Belgian owner was very helpful and hospitable.

The Cambodia visa was available at the airport. The visa photos we had taken at home prior to the trip, were not used for our visa. They took their own photos when processing the visa.

We tacked on an additional 3 days for the Cambodia segment, after disembarking our HAL cruise in Singapore. This allowed us more time and at considerable savings to the tour offered by the cruise line. Angkor Wat is absolutely worth seeing!

    Hope this helps!

  6. I have some miscellaneous questions for anyone who has recently sailed on the Volendam.

Is there still a library on the ship with a good selection of novels?

We sailed on Volendam in December 2016. I can vouch for the large selection of novels available in the library area. Although there is no librarian ( and it felt pretty weird to just walk away with a book under my arm), the books are neatly displayed and sorted. I found the selection to be quite good.

I also travel with an ereader, but sometimes just want to browse another collection!
