  1. Way back when I first signed up for a gmail account my sassy 14yo daughter was showing me the advanced technology and explaining the internet, google, etc. She chose the handle, as I do have a rather loud voice and my name is Karyn. She thought it was very funny at the time & is still proud of herself. When I give my email out, the recipients usually give a knowing nod, so I suppose my daughter's call way back, was correct.

Wednesday 3rd July we arrived early in Flam, anchored, as 2 other ships here today. We had ordered breakfast in the room and then down to Discoveries Lounge to get an independant tour tender ticket. We had our own tickets to the Flam railway for the 8.35am train. It was brisk, about 5 degrees, and the wind very icy, especially on the tender. We dug out the winter woolies and headed off. Got a window spot on the train with ease, and we could move around no problem. As we arrived at Flam station there was a snow shower. Beautiful. We got off and walked around, took photos and then caught the 10.58am train back. Fought with crowds in the tourist shops for a short while and then returned to the ship. At 2.30pm up anchor and then cruised around to Gudvangen. This fjord is on the UNESCO list and was spectacular. We stopped twice, once for goats cheese and another for berries, so looking forward to those treats. Then we are cruising towards Geiranger and had about 8 hours overnight that we were on the open sea, again with a bit of movement. Arriving at Geiranger an hour earlier today. Some photos of yesterday, whilst we have internet!!

  4. Yes, as Denise has said it is a bit cooler today. We have had to dig out our jackets, etc. We slept in til 10.30am. Our first real sleep in since we left home back on May 9th! We really enjoyed it. Up for a destination enrichment lecture given by Dr Short on Norway. Then we braved the cold and had lunch out on the patio. Chicken soup and lamb skewer, was yummo. We had to chase up our shore excursion tours tickets, as they were not left in our cabin (same happened the previous cruise too) and give our CC for this cruise (was too busy every time we went to the desk yesterday). After this we went down to the cabin to enjoy the vistas passing the window. French buffet tonight in windows and a comedian Mel Mellers, Gemma Rose on the piano in Spirits and the Captain's welcome toast. Arriving in Flam at about 6.30am tomorrow and currently weaving in and out of islands scattered along the coast. Some pics of the houses we have passed, position on the map and one of the bridges we have gone under.

  5. Hi all,

Booked a V2 veranda cabin on Azamara Journey for a 13 night Baltics Capital cruise leaving Stockholm June 22nd 2019 on May 17th 2017. We are now 3rd tier loyalty members (over 300 points - ? Discoverer level) but were 2nd tier at time of booking. Applied under the old system (paying $395 USD per stateroom) for upgrade on May 17th 2017 and received a confirmation email from Azamara re the same. We also used 2 free nights when we became 2nd tier loyalty members (Explorer) when booking this cruise, if that makes any difference.

Found out via cc that the old system was now defunct and placed my bid on March 13th 2019 for an upgrade to a cc suite and placed a bid of $300USDpp. Received confirmation of bid from Azamara at that time.

Email received 20th June 2019 ( 2 days prior to sail date) that my bid was unsuccessful. This was not surprising as feel any real benefits of being loyal and booking early are lost as far as Azamara goes. Makes it easier, as I don't feel I am so locked in now with choices. Didn't even bother putting in a bid for our next cruise on July 1st 2019.

Hope that this is the info you require! See you in a few weeks!

  6. Alsun,

thanks for a great thread. Have thoroughly enjoyed the many posts, photos and comments from others. We have sailed on 5 Azamara cruises and are booked on a Norwegian Fjord cruise on Journey next year. Enjoyed the insight your thread gave, plus the beautiful images I am very much looking forward to enjoying in person.

  7. In November 2017 we were onboard Quest and gained the required points to earn the free nights on the last night of this 16 night cruise. Made an appointment at the cruise desk and highlighted this to them & the cruise we wanted to book with our 4 free nights. All came back from Miami all processed & passed on to our TA within 48 hours. We actually booked it at around day 5 of the cruise, but they took into account that the LCV points would be gained.

  8. Have been on Quest directly across from the laundry and on the 3 occassions have never had issues with noise. The laundry is open from 8am til 9pm I think. It is terribly handy just being across the hall as we put our laundry on and go back to the room and wait the 45 mins 'til the load is finished. I would not be concerned about the laundry.

  9. Prices are SO much more than for this year they really are charging a premium on that one! It was a great trip but it’s getting hard to justify the price vs other similar providers.

That is why I am using my 4 complimentary nights.

  10. Just to be more confusing, does anyone know if the salons offer SNS nails? These are done with a powder and using the harmful UV light is not required, just several layers of powder & polish allowed to air dry.

    Thanks,

    Karyn

  11. It’s 50% of the amount that would apply for your country - so if you’re doing it as an Australian booking it’s 50% of the deposit required in Australia.

I don’t think they take cash, we just give them a credit card number. You can’t add it to your onboard account it has to be a separate transaction. It can be the same credit card as you are using for your onboard account or a different one.

  12. Hi all! My husband and I are just under 3 weeks from boarding the Quest. I have a question some of you may be able to help with.

We intend to book a future cruise on board, are Discoverer status and get the '50% reduction in deposit' benefit. My question is, based on booking a V2 veranda stateroom, what would be the expected deposit? I understand USA, UK, Canada & Australia all have differing deposit amounts. So this 50% is of the USA amount (we are cruising on a Transatlantic crossing) or of the Australian amount (we are from Australia)? Does it need to be paid in USD on board or Australian? Does it need to be cash or can you charge it to your credit card? I have read the terms & conditions, but they are not specific regarding these points (or I haven't been able to find it).

    Thanks in advance,

    Karyn

  13. Hi

Wanting to hear from expereinced cruisers - which side do people think would be best to the book for the Athens to Dubai cruise? We have a balcony and want to maximise the view.

    Thanks to all

When you get to the Gulf of Aden you will be on 'Pirate Watch' so you will not be using your balcony and the banks are more distant here. This is only for about 6 days or so.

During the transit of the Suez it is fairly boring, lots of sand either side, dotted by camps, guard towers & heavily armed protection forces, so side does not really matter. It also depends on the time you do the transit & your position in the convoy. When we did it we had to be at a mustering point off Port Said by 7pm. Our transit started about 10.30pm. We arrived at the Great Bitter Lake early morning, so wasn't much to see in the dark. We started the 2nd leg at about 1pm and we were at the beginning of the convoy, although again not a huge lot to look at. About 30 minutes of watching the banks saw me done. Depends if it particularly interests you. The initial passage may be more interesting if you do this during day light hours.

Others may have more info. Hope this helps.
