thank you so very much --

    it worked --

do you  know how we can print just on post -- other than cut and paste -- so far this new and improved CC has taken away my favorite items -- sigh

I turned off signatures after the forum reopened as they were so long, I understand this is now fixed.

I turned them off by clicking the logo at the bottom of a post (the logo/link to turn off signatures was at the bottom of every post).

Can I turn them back on? there is no logo at the bottom of any post to turn them back on (there was to turn them off), I can't slide the switch in the signature section because my signature does not currently meet the standard which means I will have to clear my signature in order to save the change..... catch 22

Can there not be a link at the bottom of each post to turn off and ALSO turn on signatures (with option to either turn all signatures off or just the one users signatures)

    HELLO  --

I too deleted a signature - after upteeneposts -- did yo ever figure out how to restore a persons signature ?   I cant find an answer to the problem --

    thanks

  3. After moving them here and there -- I decided to look it up and CC came up as the third google item - -ha ha ha

I have given the to the homeless shelter as well -- figuring it might just be a bit special on industrial sheets -- I have used it as an air freshener - as a pillow freshener -- as a room freshener -- but never figured out EXACTLY -- but the shoe freshener -- there you go -- that is next for hubby for sure ~~~

I am glad to know that some ppl arent getting them any longer -- I will stockpile a few if I get them on the ISLAND in in 2 weeks -- I got one in January on the Caribbean ....

I use the empty spray bottle ( well cleaned ) for baby oil - to soften my feet at night -- no mess - no fuss . a little goes a long way anyway .............

thanks for everyone who posted your info . ideas :cool:

  4. There are car rental offices on Ocean Blvd a few miles from the Carnival Terminal in Long Beach. Many either are closed on Sunday or have limited hours. Then you may need to go to the Long Beach Airport for a car rental.

If you google car rental 90801, you should get Avis, Hertz, Budget. You could probably get there on the free Long Beach Passport bus that loads by the Queen Mary.

Where do you want to go after your cruise that you need a car or an Uber?

Thanks so much for maintaining these posts -- we too are in need of a car rental -- luckily on a MONDAY ~~ we are heading up to San Jose... I am reading / guessing correctly -- -no car rental does a pier shuttle?? or have I missed that post?? Seems odd - but ..... are there taxis readily available?

We have been thru San Pedro before - used cruise shuttle to the airport ..............that dropped us off between terminals - and the driver didn't speak English ( so he indicated ) -- a long walk for alot of us -- ha ha -- travel is interesting

    thanks again --

  5. I could be wrong but if Princess pulls this back, I am not sure if they can enforce a cancellation fee. If they cancelled and booked direct with Princess, they could.

    I could be wrong.

Princess ( no cruise line) will "pull back" ( what ever you mean by that ) without the agent being involved - too much confusion later down the line with payments and commission..

If the agent has charged you a service or cancellation fee - you have a contract with her/and you more than likely would be charged that.

If you are under penalty with Princess you would pay that --

but this gal has said she hasnt made final yet - so I dont see the cruise line fee as a concern...........

What I would do? Call "P" make a booking. See if it compares - then cancel with the TA -- or go on line and make it ..

I do not know if "P" is restricted by making a new reservation when one is on the books already -- with computer cross referencing - it is possible.

Then you would know if apples = apples ............ If you are at no loss - then do the letter to Princess and cc in the TA --

She may be just as happy to let you go !! Trust me on that ...ha ha

We dont know either side of the coin here --

    hope it all works out

  6. PACKING CUBES

I too am a fan -- I use them at home for out of season clothing and sweaters -- for trips I have gone back to the 2 gallon Zip lock bags - the ones with the sliders -- after you squeeze the air out they are ultimately smaller and less bulky......some international airlines have lower weight limits and these too can be put in your tote if needed -

If you feel the need to have the plastic template to help you fold - cut a plastic place mat to size - watch the rough edges - a little making tape takes care of it .. For the ladies -- Chico ( or similar) "travelers" - I couldnt travel without them...there is always a sale & they pay for themselves in a few weeks of travel.. I can get 6 slacks/capris in a 2 gallon bag - when on the road for 8 weeks ~~~ nice to have options !!!

However you travel -- have great and safe trips !!!!

  7. Was it this blog that I saw someone mention -- Argon Oil for use after the Blue Lagoon??? I am heading there this OCT ~~ any hints would be appreciated. I have read so many horror stories about washing your hair afterward!!

Some non-dramatic info would be great !!!:D

  8. I think the coffee maker falls into -- if there is a will there is a way -- How do ppl get irons on ??? I wouldn't give up the space/weight in my luggage however.

The Hurtrugen cruise only has a cafeteria ($) for off hours - I think an old style immersion heater and some tea bags will be better choice !!! I always bring a dollar store mug with me (or buy one along the way) - the cups on any cruise are so small.

So many of these "hints" fall into personal choice, but always interesting !!! I always make room for my clothes steamer = I hate wrinkles!! :p

  9. Regarding magnets -- In my cosmetic bag I carry two clip style magnetic clips -- I won them on a Princes cruise - but I have plenty extra from advertising give aways -- many 'chip' clips come with a magnet on the back - a trip to the dollar store will set you up with a few

A big thanks to WehWalt - I will take a look at the coffee maker -- :D

  10. .............WEHWALT .................

please elaborate on your coffee maker--

    7. lightweight coffee maker with a travel mug. And an automatic shut off. I bring any soft pods I have handy and some instant coffee. Very useful when you want coffee but don't want to have to trek for it.

I am interested as we are heading to NORWAY for a Hurtigruten cruise and the have a cafeteria for off hours........... thanks

  11. The shelves provide very little space. Mike. I'm looking for some kind of replacement for the shelf that is normally under the sink..

not it that position myself -- but maybe a collapsible storage bin - your stuff then woudl be on the floor, but all together when you pick it up -- then maybe use the toilet seat .....I have a smaller rectangle one -- I put my contact lens stuff and comb and brush and tuck it on the shelf you wont have !! It is a good corral !!

What I would do very first is ask the room steward to see if there is a balcony table that can be put in the bathroom for you to use -- I used my balcony table in what NCL refers to as a bathroom on the EPIC -- held the curtain wall in place and while it is small it held held a few items ....

  12. I will be a first-timer on Princess this fall.

I have a number of food allergies, so am wondering if Princess does like Celebrity and has certain items not always on the printed menus, but always available upon request? IIRC, broiled chicken and steak were two of them. It was a big help on nights that the regular menu had no entrees that I could eat.

I know I could probably do special meal requests ahead of time, but I really don't know what nights I'll want to eat in the MDR vs. the specialty options.

    Thanks in advance.

YES there is a full menu on the left side of the reg menu steak and chicken, shrimp cocktail and baked potato come to mind

    - I always ask for any sauce or salad dressing on the side -not for medical but some are just heavy handed == not a problem ever -- I substitute vegetables for all potatoes - I woudl rather have a plate of asparagus than a creamy cheesy potato -- they do have a steamed veggie plate as a side - broc/cali carrots

Ask and you will receive - also the menu is posted every morning outside the restaurants so you can prethink ----------------

    enjoy yourself

  13. Bring our own. It used to be there were Purex washer/dryer sheets that you could buy in the grocery. They are no longer in the grocery stores but can be purchased from Amazon. There are also gel pacs, which I understand can rupture with airplane pressure and dryer sheets are easy to take. Fortunately we will be elite before we run out of the Purex washer/dryer sheets. Bur whatever you do, bring something from home. The ship stuff is expensive.

The free laundry on the ship can be a bit rough on your clothing -esp whites-- my came back looking like a starry sky - with at least 50 little holes in my undies !!! it happened to at least one other gal !!! I hve never had a pod burst --they fit nicely in the Hillshirefarms deli containers - and the tide stain rmover prens fit there too -- safety sake: put in a ziplock - just in case

  14. Hi I've booked 2 taxi's with Rony's taxis. I was just wondering if there were long queues to disembark the ship and to board the free shuttle to the gate. our taxi's are booked for 0730. Were there plenty shuttle buses to cope with the rush? Unfortunately we arrive on a Sunday and I've heard that the Cafe's & shops don't open till much later so we will just have to walk around & explore till then. We are also planning on doing the Canal boat ride which doesn't start till 10am.

I would be grateful for your input - Thanks

    Lydia

    Thanks

We had no problem - our taxi was for 9"30 we left the ship just before 9 thinking about a wait - our shuttle was near empty - the trip took <5 mins.

I have no idea of what time the ship tours left - that will impact your departure.

Town is 20 minutes away -- we were there on a holiday and nothing was open at first but by noon the lace and chocolate shops were open. The churches were open - maybe plan on doing that - you are there early -

The canal ride takes you from point A back to point A so think about that when you board - get on line before 10 AM -

tour groups get right on - but there are a few boats going around - we heard of line over an hour long - so you'd rather wait early on ...

you can cover town in an hour on foot - it is small - smaller than Tallin if you have been there --

    enjoy

  15. We were there last August and arranged an 8 per taxi van through ronystaxis.com. Had no problem finding 6 other people from CC. 50 euros for 8 each way. The van was at the gate when we docked with our name on a placard and then picked us up on time in town at the prearranged spot (in fact, he was 10 minutes early as we were!), Wonderful service and felt this was the best option to maximize our visit with the cost. Hope this helps. Also, we did Rick Steve's walking tour and were able to secure a canal boat before the rest of the cruise passengers got there on shore excursions. Had the town to ourselves until then!

    K

    I agree --

We were is Brugge a few weeks ago on the Emerald Princess -- the ships shuttle to the gate was free - it is walkable - but that would be time consuming -- It was well organized --

We too met up with CC people and it was well worth it -- in terms of time wasted and ease of transfer. We used Taxi Snell but there was also Taxi George picking up others -- prompt in both directions ....

there were no independent taxi trolling for fares --

Sometimes time is money -- dont bother shopping around - all taxis charge the same amount !!

  16. In an earlier post I mentioned a nice walking tour of Bruges that starts at the railroad station. http://www.********.com/Brugge%205.html

What I didn’t tell you was how to go from the cruise terminal in Zeebrugge (meaning Sea Brugge) to the city of Bruges (AKA Brugge), a distance of only about 8.5 miles as the crow flies.

Here are a few options about how to cover that seemingly short distance:

    1. Sign up for a cruise ship tour or transport. Our least favorite for this port since it is so easy to see Bruges on your own and all cruise ships charge too much. Oceania, for example, charges $89 per person just to give you a ride on a bus.

    2. Take a taxi. There are not too many at the dock if you are on a large ship. So, you should make advanced reservations. One company is “Brugse Taxi Service” email info@brugsetaxiservice.be Attn. Koen Keereman.

He charges 45 euros one way, meets you at the dock and will take you back later in the day for another 45 euros. Let him know in advance how many in your group. He can handle up to eight people for the same price. I am also trying to make contact with another taxi service to see if the price is about right and will post that info later.

    3. Take the train.

Before I go any further, let me mention that public transportation in Europe is fast, safe and very economical. Americans are just not used to it and always shy away from taking a bus or train. Too bad. If you want to be a bit braver, consider the following options:

    a. From the cruise ship terminal walk to the train station in the little town of Blankenberge. It is a long walk of about 2.5 miles due west along the coastal road “Kustlaan”. From there an eleven minute train ride takes to the starting point of the afore mentioned walking tour in Bruges.

    b. If you’d rather not walk that far, take the coastal tram from Zeebrugge to Blankenberge. The tram costs you one euro per person. The train is four euros for seniors and five euros if you are not. So, for six euros or less you can be there and back (round trip).

Here are a few more details and schedules for the summer of 2008:

There is a direct train from Blankenberge to Bruges that leaves at 8:10, then 9:10 etc every hour. If you should miss that by a few minutes you can also take a bus right outside the station. Bus 33 goes to almost the same place and leaves at 8:20 for example. I don’t know if the fare is the same.

The tram from Zeebrugge to Blankenberge goes every ten minutes, so you can time yourselves from that. To catch the tram, walk outside the harbor area, go to the main road (Kustlaan) and turn west. In front of the little beach village of Strandwijk is one of the tram stops. It is a couple hundred yards walk. Ask anyone. Then tell the tram conductor that you want to go to the train station in Blankenberg. He will throw you off at the right place.

You might want to get some euros at an ATM in Blankenberge. There are three banks close near the railroad station. You will find that most people speak enough English to show you where to go. (No pun intended).

To go back the same way I suggest you consult the schedules that are posted at the train station. There is one website, but it is in Dutch, and I don’t want to translate all the instructions here.

    http://hari.b-holding.be/Hafas/bin/query.exe/nn?OK#focus

Every cruise ship has its own schedule and everyone is afraid that they will miss it. However, It is quite doable to go back from the station in Bruges to the ship within an hour. When in doubt, you can still take a cab back if you can find one.

Oh, there is one more way to cover the 8.5 miles. You might find a bicycle rental place in Strandwijk and ride along the canal that connects Zeebrugge to Bruges. We have not tried that.

an old post anyone know if the info has changed much -- ????? Where is the ''aforementioned walking tour ? I have googled for a free walking tour and haven't come up with on yet !! thanks for any info

  19. I am not on the princess roll call boards on facebook because the privacy setting is on PUBLIC. Anyone can see who is on a sailing and the date! It is not hard to figure out where people are from just from looking at public fb post. I was disappointed in princess for this lack of security. :(

Dont you control your own security settings? I do

  20. I think so long as it shows on one side, you should be okay.

Are you asking for the cruise or the airline--regarding the teal tag and only one side visible --

for the cruise - they are not going to spend alot of time reading your tag -- you need to have your location / section as visible as possible - that is how they sort it -

.................it goes to the section of the ship

.................then someone else gets it to the floor

    .................then the room --

my guess is that if they dont see it right away - they move it to the side till all other bags are handled - then they have the time -- you may have to locate it by the pursers desk later on after sailing -

the airline doesnt need any info till they lose your bag !! Assuming you aren't carrying anything that raises a flag -- if they want to find you AT the airport - they will find you !!!

  21. A sturdy frig magnet - clip type - use on the wall to hold all your daily reminders & paperwork.

Some one mentioned getting a hole punched in your card - get that at the casino - when it opens > after sailing - they will also have a lanyard - but those real stretchie ones for use in the slot machines --

  22. Ditto on that Belkin device, but get the 2.1amp, 10 Watts if you want to charge larger things like an iPad.

A question about this device -- the ones I see on Amazon looks like a 'timer' plugs right into the wall -- as I remember the outlets they are close to the counter top - have you used this item on a ship and does it fit in the wall outlet?

I ask because I have a timer that only goes in one way and blocks the other half of the outlet and it only fits in certain locations ...

thanks for any other info you may have on this ---
