  1. My husband and I are so excited we snagged a Haven room for the May 28th sailing via upsell! We have never cruised NCL or Haven? Any tips or advice?

Get excited...VERY excited. You will love the Haven. I got an upsell for spa suite and unfortunately, we are hooked and would never not use the Haven for any Norwegian cruises. You are escorted through every other passenger to a back elevator, so expect to be looked at. lol they hold up a sign and I'm not even sure what the sign said, but we followed her to a back elevator where we were then led through all the masses waiting for embarkation. We then waited in another room and within 10 mins were escorted onto the ship to a private elevator set aside for Haven guests and up to the Haven lounge. You will be served drinks and slider burgers with french fries. Really cool.

You will enjoy the Haven restaurant. Lobster tail and filet mignon at no extra charge. Another little secret we found out by accident is that there is reserved seating in the theater for Haven guests, roped off. You never have to worry about getting a seat for the show.

Anyway, enjoy yourself. You will be so happy you did the upsell!

  2. Thinking of getting Spa package but not Vibe. Where is the nice quiet cozy spot on deck. Thx

I have to say just having come off my cruise on the Escape that I wouldn't necessarily find the spa to be quiet. It was relatively busy when we were there, but maybe there are better times when it is not so busy, like after dinner. The library is definitely a quiet area and as others have said, the Waterfront is wonderfully quiet and esp nice on the side without all the sun. What's really nice there is that they put out coffee stations with pastries in the early morning for anyone who wants it. Very nice touch.

  3. Some will claim a lot more but I have left the butler $50-60 and the concierge $20-40 but I have made little to no claim on their time other than delivery of snacks or DVD's. I pre-book my own reservations and excursions as well.

If more services are provided I would increase either of those depending on what time I take they could be helping others.

So do they leave you envelopes for each of them? I've had a butler before but it was at an all inclusive so we just left it in the room.

  4. Depends how much you use them. I budget $10 per person per day for concierge and $15 pp per day for Butler BUT I will adjust those higher or lower depending on how we interact with them.

It is important to note that the butler and concierge are NOT in the DSC pool, your steward still is (but still may deserve extra especially in a larger cabin - for example in ours they have to clean a spa tub daily...)

Thanks for your response, but I gotta ask, what is DSC? So many acronyms on here and lots I'm unfamiliar with. lol

  5. I agree with you BUT it is not mandatory. If it was, you would be billed for it.

This is our first time in the Haven, so what is the suggested amount for your butler and concierge in terms of gratuities? thanks!

  6. And if you pay that upgrade do you get any of the free offerings? Can you negotiate it? I got free gratuities with my cruise and I have read that it's not offered for the Haven nor have I seen it offered since I booked my cruise, but was wondering how that would be handled if I do manage to get an upgrade.

  7. Thanks for responding. I kinda figured it would be that way and I'm leaving it up to him. He still wants me to try to upgrade. I guess he will take his chances. lol

If there is a particular level on Haven that is better than another, I would appreciate if someone would chime in! Thanks!

  8. Consider this your best decision of the day…You will love it.

My husband would love it if I could get the Haven on an upsell but my question is, because of the location of the Haven, will we experience any more rocking, swaying, etc there than in a mid ship balcony room? I have no problems with anything, I don't get sick, but he gets motion sick, so while it may be nicer, will it be harder on him? And what floors would be the best, lower or higher? thanks for any help!

  9. Hi, All! I mostly lurk but feel compelled to ask a question, though, first, I'd like to say I enjoyed reading every single page of your review. This will be our first NCL cruise on the May 14 voyage. Did you do the disembarkation on your own or the scheduled one where I assume as with Carnival and RCL you leave your luggage out in the hallway and pick it up after getting off the ship? We won't be taken to FLL until 11 a.m. Thanks!

  10. Hi, all. We are cruising on the Oasis of the Seas in December and after having cruised on the Carnival Pride I'm not sure if Royal is different. For the formal night is it a free for all or are there strict rules on attire? I know on the Pride we wore nice dresses/sun dresses but some people even came in jeans, so it didn't really matter what you wore. Thanks!

  11. Okay, so call me crazy but I just happened to be on the Baltimore port website checking to see what my husband can or cannot do dropping us off, etc. He is not going on this cruise. anyway, people are saying get there by 11, keeping in mind on my boarding pass it says 1:30 to 3:30. Should I adhere to this because this is what it says on the website:

•The cruise terminal entrance opens at 8:00 a.m. or two hours after the ship arrives; however, do not arrive prior to the embarkation time on your ticket.

My daughter will kill me if we get there and they won't allow us in.

  12. Thanks so much for the very enlightening tips. I am going on my first cruise out of Baltimore on Sunday and for some reason I'm more panicked than I ever was going to Cancun six times. I appreciate the advice.

I do have a question, however, about the embarkation. our boarding pass says to go between 1:30 to 3:30. I would prefer to get there sooner. Suggestions?
