Our TA has tried several times to contact the proper department at NCL to make changes to our POA cruise. What's up with the terrible amount of time on hold in order to speak to a rep??
-
Can anyone suggest a great practical travel vaccine card holder?
-
We are hoping to cruise Hawaii in 2022 for our 50th Anniversary. 🎉 Should I keep my hopes up that POA will sail in the spring? Any former cruisers have pointers on POA? On memorable excursions? A great luau? Thanks in advance for your thoughts or suggestions.

Just thought I would mention that there were 2 other cruise ships, as well as a big horse show, on the one day we were in Dublin a few years ago, prior to the overnight option. The crowds were enormous and the Hop On Hop Off buses were unable to handle. We ended up taking a taxi so as not to miss St. Patrick's, but many other spots we missed. Loved our British Isles cruise, and Dublin was the one day we didn't plan a tour of some sort and thought the Hop On Off bus would be great, but it wasn't to be.

Great review. Thanks!! Compiling notes for March 2022!

Thank you for the great info. We plan to sail on Sky in October.
-
Will certainly enjoy your posts over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing! We don't board the Sky until October. Looks like a beautiful ship!!
-
Thank you for the Caribe balcony information. That's a bit disappointing. Love the larger balcony with partial coverage.

Question. Is the Caribe balcony deck the same on the Sky as on the other ships? Half covered, half open? Hoping to book a Caribbean on the Sky perhaps for 2021.
Thanks. Sharon

Thank you so much for the information!

Good evening. We have never sailed with Celebrity and are considering their Canada New England cruise. What are your opinions on deck 2 for our stateroom? Or are there decks that are more appealing than others, in your opinions? Thank you.

I smile when another comment pops up on your thread. Reminds me of my own very favorite cruise, British Isles on the Ruby. 2014. Glorious. Thanks again, DeLoreanGirl.

I agree that the British Isle trip is the trip of a lifetime! LOVED our 2014 cruise on the Ruby. Have a wonderful cruise!!

I cannot give an opinion on any other line than Princess, but our 12 day cruise on the Ruby for British Isles was extraordinary. We planned several excursions with folks on cruise critic; they were all superb. We used the Princess excursion to Normandy because of the distance. Our itinerary included Orkney, and what a treat that was. We went in August so we could experience the Tattoo in Edinburgh. What a memory. August in London is also usually the start of Buckingham Palace being open for tours, by the way. As a very port intensive cruise, the two sea days were days of rest and recovery and fish and chips in the pub! We had anytime dining and were totally pleased with that. We are also not art auction fans or bingo or such, but we can surely sit on deck and stare at that glorious wake. Made great friends with our tour buddies as well. Highly recommend Princess.
:D
And by the way, have you read DeLoreanGirl's thesis?

Whatever you decide, have fun. We LOVED it!

Hoping to visit the Future Cruise Sales desk when we board Ruby Princess tomorrow. If they can offer a decent deal, we may try to make British Isles 2018 happen with our 4-year old (yikes!)
AAHHHH! Our British Isles was on the Ruby! And I agree with you. BEST CRUISE EVER! So much fun to see this thread alive and well! We missed the Invergordon stop due to weather, so we look forward to another BI cruise one of these days, too! Must see the Highlands! :D

First Princess cruise was a table for 10 or so, and several STRANGE tablemates for that week. Since then we do anytime dining. Sometimes just the two of us, but more often happy to sit with others and meet lovely new folks. Different time and different table every night suits us perfectly.

Our British Isles cruise on the Ruby in August, 2014 was pure joy. Great itinerary and great memories! Go in August and see the Tattoo!

We used the International Friends bus that John mentioned. Picked us up right at our central London hotel that morning, comfy bus to Stonehenge, tickets included, and then on to Southampton in time to board ship. Easy transfer. Highly recommend.

August, 2014.
We used Blackberry Cars to pick us up at Heathrow and take us to our London hotel. Our flight was early, arriving before 7:00 am, and our guide was already there, most efficient and kind, very clean car.
London pre-cruise. Purchased tickets in advance to see the Buckingham Palace staterooms. Would definitely do again. Excellent.

We took International Friends tour bus, which picked us up at our hotel, to Stonehenge on the way to Southampton. Highly recommend that as well. Driver was a bit early and actually came into the hotel lobby to get us and our luggage. Also tickets in advance.
Great cruise.

I am looking for shore excursion companies. I am interested in small group tours or private tour companies. Anybody have any suggestions? Would love your feedback.
August, 2014.
From London, we took International Friends tour bus to Stonehenge on the way to Southampton. Highly recommend.
Guernsey:
Private taxi tour of more than half the island with Silver Accredited Guide Steve Martin. Excellent.

Cork: (cruise critic group)
We had an 8 person van for an about Cork taxi tour. Cork, Blarney and Kinsale. Excellent.

Dublin:
HoHo Bus, but 2 cruise ships and a huge horse show and Dublin was packed with people. Hard to find bus seats, so we weren't able to see as much Dublin as we hoped.
So if I had it to do again, I would plan something else.
Belfast: (cruise critic group of 6)
Antrim Coast. Gorgeous. Giant's Causeway, Dunluce Castle and perfect lunch at Wee Cottage nearby, beautiful Game of Thrones beech trees, back to Belfast to see the Protestant/Catholic murals and sign the Peace Wall. Wow. Eye-opening. Fabulous day.

Glasgow: (cruise critic group)
15 passenger van with Gordon Ross of Great Scot Tours. Luss, Loch Lomond, Trossachs, Aberfoyle, Callander, Stirling Castle, on into Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo. Again, excellent.

Orkney:
Orkney Aspects. Small van tour of Stones of Stenness, Ring of Brodgar, Maes Howe and Norse inscriptions, Skara Brae, Scapa Flow, delightful lunch at Merkister Hotel, stop in Kirkwall to visit St. Magnus Cathedral and time for some Orkney ice cream. Another fabulous day.

Invergordon:
We were unable to dock because of high winds.
We were scheduled to tour with Wow Scotland tours and Gordon Pearson, but the very day that we missed our port, Gordon emailed to confirm our refund. I was totally impressed by that. Perhaps another cruise.

Edinburgh:
Andy and his black taxi picked us up at the ship, private morning tour of Arthur's Seat, St. Giles and Thistle Chapel, castle, and more. Several hours on our own, and Andy met us again at day's end to take us back to ship. Another great day!

LeHavre: We took the Princess tour of Normandy. Excellent. Book tours of Normandy early, whether ship tour or private tour. They fill quickly.
LOVED the BI cruise. Every single port. LOVED.

We have enjoyed the MDR for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. Anytime dining, rather late. We enjoy the quiet and calm atmosphere, and also enjoy being seated with others randomly to hear great excursion and cruising stories. Have met some delightful folks this way. Rarely eat in HC. On early excursion port days, we will order room service breakfast. Have enjoyed Crown Grill and Sabatini's once each. We also have eaten the pub lunch in Wheelhouse Bar and also the HC Crab Shack. Enjoyed those as well. But generally we eat in the MDR. Hard to find a bad meal if you ask me.
-
Thanks for sharing your review. Takes me back to our August, 2014 BI cruise. LOVED that itinerary. Highly recommend an August sailing so you can experience the Edinburgh Tattoo. It's unforgettable.

Caribe.

Caribe. Quiet. Great balcony. Sun if you want. Shade if you want. Easy peasy.
You will LOVE the Ruby.
NCL is now cutting services offered after final payment on 7 day Pride of America cruise

We are so very sorry about your health. We knew there would be concessions made because of the virus, but NCL actions are surprising. We always eat breakfast in the main dining room, for example. And strange that they are not keeping open the restaurants that bring in more money. I guess the extra staff that would be required is not cost effective for them. Sad also for the many staff members that are still not employed. We had hoped to sail POA in March, and have not paid our final payments, and have decided to cancel and just stay on a couple islands instead. I read today that 88 cruise ships are being monitored by the CDC for virus outbreaks. For now, as much as we love cruising, we will figure out alternatives in order to continue to travel as we can.
