  1. Hello! I am wondering if there are any nice restaurants in the port area at Curacao? We will be celebrating my friends birthday while there and we are in port kind of late. I thought maybe a nice dinner in port would be fun for her birthday. Anybody have any info or suggestions??

  2. Best thing to do is to contact Carnival's Special Needs desk. They will set it up for you and your family to have vegan entrees and selections in the MDR and to point out Vegan friendly dining options in other venues. There are any number of posts on vegan experiences on Carnival ships in this forum. But check out Curt Jerome's threads on the "Friends of Cruise Critic" boards.:)

I'm not a vegan. IMO vegan as practiced in the US is a socio-political choice, not a health choice. Vegan as practiced in other cultures is a religious requirement concocted by certain elites to control religious observance and establish cultural hegemony and fit in with geographical constraints and agricultural practices at the time. Similar to Jewish and Islamic prohibitions on pork and shell fish. Nothing to do with health or well being. But that's my view, your mileage may vary.

Nevertheless, I'm in full support of those who wish to practice these eating habits to have an opportunity to do so, without ridicule.

And thus I'm glad that Carnival recognizes these choices and bends over backward to accommodate.

Have a great cruise and enjoy your dining selections.:)

I disargree. Everytime I call the special needs department about my dietary requests they always tell me to speak to the dining room once on board

I went vegetarian because suddenly I couldn't stand the thought of meat, and it was a quick jump to vegan after that. The one thing I do is drink half and half with my coffee. I have yet to find a vegan cream replacer and there's no way I'm soaking cashews, not a chance. I don't like sweetener in my coffee, the only "milk" I drink is unsweetened almond milk but it's not enough in my coffee.

Anyway, I've cruised as a vegetarian before. There are a lot of options as we all know. The breakfast burritos with the crunchy hash brown bits are to die for. Love those. The pasta is quite frequently vegetarian if you just take the shrimp off, for example. I know that some dishes probably have some beef stock in them but I really try to stay far away from them. The buffet is easy. Plenty of vegetarian things to eat at all times.

Vegan gets a little trickier. We like to eat in the MDR at night so it gets far more limited. You can get the menu the night before and select or you can just eat sides or the Indian selection. Honestly after a day of pigging out in the buffet I don't mind a dinner of two baked potatoes and some broccoli. Yes it's limited in the MDR but a vegan diet is by its nature a limited way of eating. We might be able to create colorful, varied meals but we are in fact limiting whole groups of foods. So it's limited.

My plan for these next cruises is to throttle back to vegetarian. I like the Danish (butter), I like the breakfast burritos (eggs), I like the Caesar salad (eggs, dairy and yes some anchovies in it somewhere). So I will be "mostly vegan" and move on.

I give all vegans who cruise a lot of credit. There are days with not a lot to do but lie around and eat. I became a vegan for compassionate reasons. I still cook meat at home 4 nights out of 7 because I have some students living here and one child still at home and they all expect meat. My husband is a vegetarian who is happy being vegan most of the time but will also like a good Mac and cheese.

People who have left some drive by snarky comments on here are not helping, but they have their own agendas in life and "helping" is not on the agenda.

Definitely accepting ideas on what I can do about the coffee creamer issue! No corn syrup. Can't stand sweetened coffee. Thanks in advance-

I have found a Silk Almond milk hazelnut flavored creamer that is delicious!!!

  3. Oo!!! This would be fun (i see this thread is kind of old..) i work as a 911 dispatcher and husband is a firefighter/medic..

We have a 911 group going in Jan on the Freedom from Galveston. Check out Texas 911 cruise

  4. I have not gotten this survey either. I wish I had.

My friends and I went to the night club on our recent Magic cruise ready to have a great time and dance the night away. When we arrived they were playing slow dance music (think 8th grade farewell dance). We asked the DJ and he said they were playing slow dance music for couples for the next 2 hours. I'm not a "couple" and did not care for this, we left unhappy. I always thought the atrium and ocean plaza were designed for this type of slow dancing. I'm sure if I were in love I would have a different opinion but the night club is not the place for this.

  5. I am booked on the Magic in October. Deck 6 aft in an interior room. Anyone know where my muster station might be? I've been in the same area of the ship before but on deck 1 or 2 and we were always in the aft dining room.

  6. Have sailed the Magic 3 times with #4 booked in October. Love that ship. Red Frog is a great little hangout, Ocean Plaza has bands and trivia. Serenity deck is nice, I like to sit in the hot tubs early morning or at sailaway. Cucina is good, Steakhouse is good...everything is good. Can't say anything bad about it. :D

  7. I feel your pain!! I am booked on the Magic for Oct 19th. I check at least every other day and the price has only gone up. But with my past cruises I've noticed price drops closer to the sail date. Fingers crossed we can both score some OBC. :D

Oh and I'll see ya in Cozumel!! (Dream and Magic will be in port the same day)

  8. We cruised on Norwegian Majesty on one of her last cruises before she was sold. One formal night, waiting for a table in the MDR, another couple came in, she in a nice dress and wrap, he in a Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts. The hostess politely explained that shorts were not allowed in the MDR at dinner. The husband gruffly responded, "forget this, I'm going to the buffet." His wife burst into tears and yelled through her sobs, "I told you to put on pants!"

Maybe not wild and crazy, but it sure was funny! Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, long may it live!

    This makes me giggle! :p

On my first cruise ever, I had packed my husband several nice button up shirts and nice slacks. He later went into his suitcase and pulled them all out thinking he wouldn't need them and replaced them with t-shirts and jeans. We only got to eat in the MDR on formal night that cruise. :(

  9. I thought I put the name of the ship in the countdown clock, it is the Marco Polo, with Cruise and Maritime.

I did look at the deck plan which showed the cabin grade in the lower decks, and with the number I said in my original post, but the info I have now received says the GT601, we did book this very early and they have had a couple of deals on since then so didn't understand what was going on.

As for the seasickness, I was hoping for non medicated things, as I have heard some say that there are some things you can eat or wear that may help prevent it, I am ok on ferries that cross the English Channel, but have never spent more than 7 hours on one.

    Thanks

You can take ginger chews, tablets or gingerale. Also the crew has told me in the past that green apples help with sea sickness. All of that is natural

  10. Hi,

As the title says my husband and I will be first time cruisers, we have chosen to go on a smaller ship as it we hope to fall in love with cruising and go bigger next time! It is also taking us to St Petersburg, a place where my husband has been wanting to go for some time.

I booked our cruise through an agent, and Cruise & Maritime have now sent through all the information regarding trips and things.

I do have a couple of things I would like an answer to

    1. We have a GT601 as our cabin number, I had expected a number beginning with either 1 or 2 at the beginning, does this mean the room has an upgrade on it? Does it also mean that the cabin won't now change or is it still likely to go back to a 1 or 2? I believe GT stands for Guaranteed...which means you booked a guaranteed category but you could be put anywhere on the ship.

    2. I am particularly scared of getting seasickness, and due to taking other medication, I am reluctant to taking another pill, especially if I am not sure it will affect my other medication, any ideas?

Have you thought about the scoplamine (sp) patch? It's a patch that goes behind your ear to help with motion sickness. No pills involved. It does have it's own side affects though.

    3. I have chosen the first seating in the restaurant, as I wasn't sure if the late sitting would mean missing some of the entertainment, is this a good idea?

The shows are scheduled around both dining times. If you have early seating you will see the show after dinner and if you have late seating you will see the show before dinner. And the comedy is always later with multiple shows. So it really just depends on what time you like to eat.

    Thanks

    Hope this helps. :)

  11. Jan it was aft level 4 I think. We had horribly slow service the first 2 nights. Then we got an awesome waiter, Pornswana, and it improved somewhat. It could have just been because we like her. :)

  12. Great job Pamela! :)

Did y'all not try Bonsai Sushi? We ate there the first night and I loved it. Wishing the Magic had it for October.

For those that are asking, I have the same issues and comments regarding the liquid lounge. They really needed to have a dedicated disco/night club on the ship. It closed early or just wasn't open too often.
