I believe he (Henrik) was still on vacation and came back on the 20th of September having left on July 20 per the list of Captains on CC.  The other Captain most likely does not like doing them. His name starts with an "s" I believe.

I apologize to the OP for the thread hijack so I'll keep it short.

You are probably correct!  As I said the Captain wasn't heard from or visible so it was most likely not Henrik... was just going off the name that was posted earlier.

Captain Henrik. Not sure about the CD he only says his first name and not clearly as he is usually yelling. Tall skinny bald head guy. Extra annoying. 😜

Was on the Ovation for the Sep 6 Alaska sailing.  Would completely agree that CD Joff extra annoying.  Like you said he's always yelling at the top of his lungs and had a pretty inflated ego (even for a CD!)  One of my favorite shows on RC is "Love and Marriage" which the entertainment is often based on the CD more so than the contestants... and this one fell pretty flat in comparison to other sailings imo.

Captain Henrik didn't make any announcements (or appearances from what I remember) until the cruise was nearly over.  The first few days all announcements were made by the CD.  Towards the end of the cruise when Henrik started making the announcements himself they were short and not very informative.

It also leads to another complaint I have that on the newer ships you cannot hear any announcements in your stateroom unless they choose to (which they most often don't).  I know this is a somewhat controversial topic on here but I prefer the older ships ability to turn the in-room speaker on or off.

  3. Nope, nope, nope. Don't ever do it. I work for an airline that Jets the Blue skies... the bulk of my own flying is up and down the East Coast. Nearly every week I deal with or at least see a family angry and heartbroken they are going to miss their cruise due to weather or mechanical delays.

Don't ever do it unless something major gets in your way, and in that case, take the earliest possible deparure even if that means getting up at 2am. The delays are always less likely at the start of a day, and if something happens, you have more chances to get there before your ships departure time.

Then again, I frequently come across people who fly on the same day as a wedding (had a father miss his own daughters wedding two weeks ago) a graduation, or even a funeral.

  4. They just announced the return of Empress - the complete opposite of a Q Class ship.

I truly hope that this is the case. They need a smaller class to replace the Vision and, and eventually the Radiance, Class.

I'm interested in seeing where Empress will be sailing.

While I'd like to say we cruise based on destination and not the ship itself (especially Royal's "the ship IS the destination" thing they have going on) I guess I can no longer say that when we honestly have no interest in Oasis and Quantum class.

  5. My wife and I have always done My Time Dining.

The biggest factor is that we prefer to sit alone for a nice dinner for two that we can tailor to the day (excursions, show times, how hungry we are, etc)

We've also found that more often than not early dining usually takes too long and doesn't finish in time for the evenings entertainment. The same goes for the late dining as it's not late enough and would force us to leave the show before it's over.
