  1. In theory the answer is YES. You can plug in a Roku, Firestick, personal device in to the TV's HDMI port and watch content. Not sure how well streaming content over the ship's internet works as i have not tried that. We haven't cruised since 2019, but have been on NCL, Carnival and RC. We have always brought an iPhone lighting port to HDMI converter and HDMI cord with us to play downloaded TV shows/movies on the TV in our room from a phone/device. Plugged straight in to the HDMI port just as you would a Roku or Firestick. You must purchase a cheap universal programmable TV remote to use for the TV to change inputs. The TV remote provided by the cruise line will not allow you to change the inputs on the TV. We have done this the last handful of times we cruised before COVID. Booked for 2023 and will be bringing our setup again.

I just finished an NCL cruise that was supposed to put me a couple days away from platinum status.  Strangely, my account now lists me as platinum instead of gold, but I should still be a few days away.

Im not complaining, but am confused why this might be the case.  That said, it would be great to have those extra perks on my next cruise!

Just off the Breakaway in January and should have been a few days away from Platinum as well after the cruise. To my surprise, i checked my Latitudes a few days later and it shows we are now Platinum. Not complaining either. I made sure to take a screen shot just in case.

  3. I did not personally go up there and see if it was open for sail away so i cant answer 100%. However i was on the 1/17 sailing and just went back and looked at the hours of operations for bars listed on the Freestyle Daily for day 1 and the Vibe bar is NOT showing any hours of operation on day 1. I also looked at the dailies for the rest of the cruise and it was open  from 9:00 am -6:00 pm some nights 7:00 pm. Hope this helps

I have read that you can take NCL-supplied OBC, exchange it for chips (or whatever they use in the casino), play a couple of hands and cash in, receiving cash, not OBC.  With a 1% fee.  Can anyone confirm that that works?

This is true except it is 3% charge. Just off the Breakaway on 1/27. I had $425 OBC and went to the casino one night, used room key to get $400 for craps and it came out of my OBC. I lost $50 real quick and decided to call it quits and cash out and put their money in my pocket.

It will be an interesting case study based on what happens with our bids on 10 days.   We leave on the 17th and are currently the lowest cost room (inside).  We are able to bid on Oceanview, Balcony and Spa level on the website.  I put the lowest bid for all three to start with, and each day I will go into the system and up one of them by $5 just to provide some type of ability that I would like to be noticed for my bidding process.   All bids as of 20 days were in the poor range with one of them creeping up into the fair range.   I think if I at least show that I am interested maybe it will help.  Maybe not, given as someone else said, people who may end up getting these maybe connected through the casino, the NCL awards programs, the number of times you sailed, or if your last name ends in "S".   That is my hope given I don't think the other 4 things listed will work, but since my last name is Morris, I have a better chance.

I have a math degree (30 years ago) back in the day when you actually took to statistically look through theories on paper on what would be a good bid and what would not.  I have at least two pieces of paper that I have created savings/probability/not used inventory/luck of the draw.   On the cruise that just sailed out tonight, the next time it comes into port, my wife and I will be on it.  We didn't get any of the freebies (so no drinking until the lights go out, eating lobster and steak in a french boutique, or getting $50 to run into the ocean on a segway!    We paid enough to just sit on the top deck, don't have to listen to phones, no many kids, turning on the TV and hearing what crap is coming out of the political situation, just wind, a $8 beer, my IPOD playing "Can't stop this feeling" from Journey and a big smile on my face.

Wish me luck on Friday of this week when I think it will be the last bid I put on the best of the three that I think might end up being selected, or as statistically like winning the lottery, I will get the "expired" letter that most of us get.   Thanks for playing the game.   John

My wife and I are on this same cruise and anxiously awaiting to see if our bid was accepted. After seeing how tiny the regular balconies are i decided to book an angled balcony just so we could have a little bit more room out there, we spend a lot of time on our balcony. We did however place an upgrade bid on a Spa Mini Suite balcony. Now the balcony in the Spa Mini Suite is the same size as a normal balcony so it would be smaller than the angled balcony i originally booked, but there are other perks to the room such as the huge bathroom/shower and access to the Thermal Spa to make up for the smaller balcony. Those things would all be nice but they are not things we must have. I would never pay full price for one of these rooms because we are not huge spa people, but it could be nice to have for 10 days so i put in a "poor" bid of $125/pp, minimum bid was $100/pp. Waiting to see what happens these next few days, but i will be happy either way. I think chances may be good just by looking at how many Mini Suite Spa Balconies that are still open so close to sailing, but that also depends on how many people bid on upgrades for these rooms and what their bids are. The spa stuff would be nice since we have never done anything like that before but if it gets declined we still have our slightly bigger balcony to enjoy. Either way, we cant wait!!!

    Thank you all!

I realized I didn't explain fully, that we like to decide what to eat that night, and not a few days in advance, so that's why we were wondering. Sounds like we'll just give it a shot and see what happens!

mavjade how did this work out for you? My wife and I are going on the Breakaway for 10 days in January and are exactly the same way when it comes to vacation. We usually don't plan when and where we want to eat days in advance. We are very much "what do you feel like having tonight" kind of folks. How did the no reservation dining go? We usually eat later in the evening anyways so 8:30-9:00 dinner times are fine with us. Were you able to pretty much get a table wherever you wanted as long as it was later in the evening?

  7. Any craps players here been on the Breakaway recently? I am booked on her in January and was trying to find out some info about table minimums and odds at the craps tables. I've looked in the casinos section on here but everything is so old. Any recent info would be great thanks
