  1. Gold Rock is part of the national park. I would assume there would be no problem snorkeling. There is no one there to tell you what you can and can't do anyway. We were there for about 2 hours and probably only saw 5 other people the entire time. I would suggest trying to be there at low tide.

Thanks GS92, I guess I wasn't quite concise with my question... while snorkeling may be possible, regulation wise, is it feasible, ocean wise? I.e. is the water deep enough, are there any fish / reefs in the area?

Many times when I see a sandy beach that gets much bigger at low tide, that indicates a very shallow bottom, not ideal for snorkeling.

I realize that without having gone into the water, you may not be able to answer this query fully. Doesn't sound like you saw anyone snorkeling though, correct?

    thanks,

  2. Is snorkeling possible at either Lucayan National Park or Gold Rock Beach? My wife and I would definitely like to get IN the water, but the only other option seems to be Deadman's Reef / Paradise Cove and it's getting luke warm reviews at best... We have our own gear, just need a spot.

  3. We are researching for our upcoming October anniversary cruise. DH wants to snorkle. I'm not sure yet if I want to go with him or just relax on the beach. Either way, preference is to NOT snorkle from a boat out in the open water. We do have our own equipment, so no need for rental. It's hard to tell from all the comments on the boards if there is anywhere you can do this from Freeport other than Paradise Cove. We most definitely would prefer to be somewhere we we're not looking at industrial stuff! Lots of positives for Gold Rock Beach, but no one says whether they snorkeled there. I'm starting to wonder if it's just an issue that it's so shallow for so far out that it's a problem to do that most places? Any input/suggestions would be most appreciated!

Just a reply to bump this up... I am also interested in the same stuff... I was zeroing in on Paradise Cove, but I didn't see the "looking at industrial stuff" ? where do you see that? Also, can Paradise Cove be enjoyed on a walk in basis, or do you have to pay their $40 access fee? (with 10% discount if you bring your own gear, how kind! lol)

  4. We booked a rental car from Avis for Skagway & I'm looking into renting a car in Juneau as well. For the cost of a car rental (under $70)' date=' I think its worth it to drive ourselves. Our ship is the last in port and doesn't dock til 2PM, so I don't want to have to be limited by public transportation being done at 6PM.[/quote']

Under $70? wow, I'm making a reservation from Avis for our day in Skagway on 5/9/17, cheapest rate is $132..I wonder why the variation? When are you arriving? Going with Juneau Car Rental in Juneau, that's closer to $70 ($86)

    Cheers,

  5. So can we all at least agree that there are some inconsistencies on this ship?

Probably on this and every ship, truth be told. I've always found that my attitude and preconcieved notions had the greatest effect upon my experience. Ever had a really good day and not been brought so low by a flat tire? Ever had a really bad day and and not enjoy someone offering a gift as much?

An attitude of gratitude is something I actively try to cultivate.. it just makes everything more fun.

  6. ... I obviously have higher standards than you.....

Higher standards and piss poor manners!

I've had great cruises on shoddy ships, and poor cruises on brand new ships...

The only common denominator I can find is my attitude.

I imagine your experience may have been negative wherever you went.

  7. Mark, thanks so much for returning and giving your review here. It actually makes us feel even better looking forward to our own Century cruise coming up! Ours is a whole-ship charter, so the activities/entertainment will be different from the standard Celebrity fare. Since those seemed to be some of the key low points of your review, sounds very promising for a great cruise!

We'll report back after our cruise also...

My wife and I were aboard the Century for our honeymoon in November of 2012. It was a delightful cruise aboard a wonderful ship. We did notice (for the first time in our extensive cruising history) that the soundproofing on the cabins was much less than we had ever experienced before... but this being our honeymoon, I imagine this caused much more distress (or delight) to our neighbors that it did for us. I also believe that this was due to our being upgraded to a suite on deck 12... suites that were added on to the ship in drydock a few years back and not originally part of her design.

Sad, but inevitable news that she'll be sold next year. I'm glad to be consummating our marriage aboard again, this time in a slightly wilder style.

  8. We'll be on that charter cruise - which will be to the Mexican coast - Cabo, Puerto Vallarta and Ensenada. Yes, "swingers" are one of the target audiences, but generally only about half the cruisers on these cruises are "swingers." The rest, like us, love the all-adult, all-couples, no-kids atmosphere with lots of dancing, nightlife and activities. Nudity allowed at sea at the pool deck, and in private areas - that's it. We're looking forward to it!

Generally, the crew-members really enjoy these charters because (in general), they spend more and tip better than the average.

Other than seeing nude sunbathing/swimming, I don't think the crew will have many "stories" as any true sexual activity is tightly limited to a closed venue which yes, is thoroughly cleaned by charter staff and cruise line staff before and after the charter. I suppose it is "all about the money" but I believe this is the first Celebrity ship which has been chartered - most have been RCI ships.

    Well said.

My wife and I will be aboard as well. I imagine it will be a very different experience from our previous dozen or so cruises.... very much looking forward to it.

  9. Sorry to have posted this here if not appropriate, but the search function is not working at all for me at the moment, keeps giving a "fatal error" yuck!

Anyway, I am traveling with my wife and daughter, and am wondering if anyone has experience with the third person and priceline? They pretty clearly spell out that rates are for two adults, but I've been to hotels that either don't care or tack on an additional $10 for a roll away bed if you add another person...

    Thanks
