  1. I'm a light packer and not a big shopper so I don't normally leave room for souvenirs.  But if there are small/cheap things (like tropical costume earrings), or things I can buy instead of packing (like aloe), to support the local vendors, I'd like to keep it in mind and have the right amount of cash with me too.  What kind of items are typically being sold?

  2. I like to pack light and am not a big shopper so I don't normally leave room for souvenirs.  But wondering if any of the vendors near the cruise port on West Bay might reliably have Aloe?  What kinds of things do they sell?  (Seeing if I could NOT PACK something I might otherwise pack, and support the local economy a little bit.)  Thanks!

  3. I think when I booked our Feb cruise a year ago, I thought our interior cabin 4051 had the bed farther from the bathroom, with cabins alternating bed-far, bed-near. I know it was renovated last spring. Current generic pictures of interior cabins show the bed far from the bathroom, but with its headboard on the far wall (where a window or balcony door would be in other cabins). Does anyone know how to find the current layout of our room?

Was also wondering if there are flavored martinis available, by any chance?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello! We're taking a RC cruise out of San Juan in Feb.

We'll be staying in Isla Verde for 3 days pre-cruise, with a rental car.

Post-cruise, our flight leaves at 1:40pm to head home.

I hear there are plenty of cabs in San Juan. I don't think we'll be in a big rush with that flight time, and we won't be trying to do any last-minute site-seeing either.

Would anyone suggest doing anything differently than just getting a cab to the airport? Are there shuttle buses too?

We had pre-reserved a shuttle bus when we took a cruise out of FLL recently. But of course setting a specific time is always tricky when disembarking.

    Thanks!

  5. There are some choices around $100/nt in OSJ, and some that don't have any minimum number of nights.

You get lots more choices with just a little more money, and/or more nights, and/or a bigger area.

We're staying 3 nights ahead of our Feb cruise, oceanfront studio condo (not shared) in Isla verde for 165/nt.

That leaves us 1 day to explore OSJ (by taxi, bus or cheap rental) and 1 day for the beach/surrounding area. :)

  7. I wish they would just get rid of the mini bar items. And i think the fridge could be ome size smaller to make room for 1 more drawer! (Coming from someone who only takes carryon luggage, what do those with bigger suitcases do w the limited drawer space?)

We did enjoy the opportunity to keep some cool water on hand, but didn't enjoy the hassle of having to prove we didn't use the Evian water that had been in there.

  8. Hello! I'm leaving in just 3 weeks for my 2nd-ever cruise.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are views of the ocean from the pool deck areas on the Eclipse. Are the railings solid or transparent around here?

Are there plenty of lounge chairs for those who want them? Are there other lounge chair areas in other parts of the ship, if these are full? Are pool floats allowed?

    Thanks!

  9. We're US residents/Verizon customers, going to the Caribbean on the Eclipse Feb 7, going to 7 islands over 2 weeks.

I recently called Verizon and was told about a $40/month International Plan that includes 100 minutes, 100 texts (I think outgoing, plus some incoming), and a small amount of data (like 1mb).

I plan to activate this (and make sure I fully understand the details) right before we leave, then cancel it when we get back.

    Seems pretty reasonable, relatively speaking.

I also got 2 different answers when I asked whether we could use it on the ship without further charges. If I'm not convinced 100% on way or the other, we'll stick to just using it in port (keep it off or in airplane mode otherwise).

On our last cruise to Alaska, so we didn't need an International Plan, but we made a point to get away from the ship before calling home, in order to not accidentally use the ship's signal. So again, unless I'm truly convinced things are different now, we'll do the same here.

  10. Thanks everyone for this info.

I love how we got the "important information regarding your upcoming cruise" email about formal nights (which had no actual dress code info).

I came here to get the scoop on that, and found this!

Had to call Celebrity and ASK. The agent rattled off lots of detailed info, and eventually emailed it to me after I insisted she do so.

I liked our itinerary with many ports in just a week (benefit of the san juan departure) including ports that those in our group hadn't been to like Dominica and Martinique, plus the USVI. They still offer this itinerary in April, but we wanted to go when it's coldest where we live in Jan or feb.

Only so many affordable crise lInes depart from san juan, (royal and Norwegian). No similar itineraris from them that I see. Kinda bummed but maybe it just wasn't meant to be!

  11. Hello! I'll be going on my first Caribbean Cruise in a few months.

My husband and I are 40-ish, active, love nature & beautiful scenery.

The first 2 things I thought would be interesting to do/see on Antigua were the Stingrays and Devil's Bridge.

But my husband points out that Stingrays may not be as interesting after swimming with dolphins a few days earlier on Curacao.

And although we're NOT planning to see the collapsed natural bridge & remaining baby bridge on Aruba, we'll be "fresh" (freshly sore, probably) from our Gros Piton hike on St. Lucia. So our idea of what's "scenic" may be slightly skewed.

We are in port for 8hrs, so I'd like to do more than JUST beach time. Does anyone have any recommendations for us???

    Thank you so much!!!
