  1. It WAS THE roughest cruise I have ever been on....and all the above I agree with....the Blulypso band of two on the Lido DECK was great.... We had no complaints with the food...the burritos at Blue Iguana were so good....In St Kitts we took the Grey tour excursion...Thenford Grey was a very nice man and I really learned a lot on that tour.....Our steward Leo was great....our waiter was OK...but my husband put his empty COKE can on his empty plate and he said to him...PLEASE DON'T DO THAT.. MY BOSS WILL FIRE ME...... HUH?

Our little grandson loved Karaoke with FannyPax....Camp Ocean was outstanding for a 9 yr old.... Cannot understand people when they say their kids were bored there.... He loved it.....

We had a fun cruise...I do agree with the port... There were two ways to get down to customs...the escalator or the elevator.... When it worked... The man herding people was a rude ahole........the ship did dock earlier than expected and I did feel rushed to get out of there.. Our lines weren't too long at customs but I don't like the port set up there and FLL airport is a mess..their security line is obnoxious... Glad we has TSA precheck...walked right up.... I really don't want to sail out of there again....kind of confusing...

  2. between the traffic and the taxes in montgomery county maryland (dc suburbs) i can't wait to leave. There is a significant difference in cost of living in delaware, and no sales tax. Real estate taxes are so much lower...and it wont take over an hour to drive 13 miles, my current commute to work in dc.

Just 8 more weeks: 25 work shifts and 15 vacation shifts...my last day is october 14. After 45 years of nursing my working days are numbered!

    congratulations!!!!

  3. Can someone explain to me why people that retire sometimes sell their homes and move?? I'm sure there are many reasons, but leaving your home and family seems sort of sad to me. Am I missing something???

    Deb

    Some of my reasons are...

We are tired of Michigan weather

All our parents are gone..husband's sons don't talk to us at all... Thus grandkids are kept away..as for family I have my sister who I will miss..she is excited to visit

Hubby's pension is not taxed there...so far anyway!!

We have a beautiful house in Tennessee... Paid off..

    My son lives in California

Believe me..I have gotten it from a lot of people how at 54 and 56 we are too young to retire...we are going to be bored homesick lonely etc etc etc... Frankly after 25 years as a police officer..my husband is burned out and he wants the country life..don't blame him....

  4. So happy for you!!! No more humpdays for you!!!!!

    Deb

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I retired after 20 years at an office type job in 2006 and then started cleaning houses.. for the past 8…I have a few clients left..this is.my.last work week before we move at the end of the.month...for us we are just not retiring we are LEAVING too which makes it more stressful for..me....husband cant wait!!! He is not stressed....!!!!

  5. Me and my wife will be going on the norwegian breakaway for our honeymoon in September. This will be my first cruise, her 5th. We will be in the haven suites. Room 12904 aft facing balcony. I was wondering if anybody ever experienced feelings of panic knowing you are in the middle of the water with nothing around for miles! How do/did you deal with that feeling. Thanks in advance!!

This was my biggest fear... I have had panic and agoraphobia for many years and it always got into the way of my traveling

but decided the hell with it....let's go...I tell you I never thought once about being on the water in the middle of nowhere...I was having too much fun!!! The only problem I had this last cruise and I know it sounds stupid but docking in Cozumel and walking along the big dock to shore...THAT sent me into a panic..felt like I had nothing to hold on to in all that wide open space....other than that I was fine...have a great cruise!!!!

  6. Not a big screw-up but I kept falling asleep early! :(

We love ports so we pick port-intensive itineraries, get up early and we're always one of the first ones off the ship and one of the last ones back on. We usually get back on the ship, get cleaned up for dinner, eat ravenously after running around all day. Then we'd go back to the cabin to change out of dinner clothes (because I like being comfy) to go to shows and stuff and I would sit/lay on the bed "just for a couple minutes" and I would fall asleep!

In that way, I missed a couple shows that I really wanted to see and I was pretty disappointed in myself. :( Going to try really, really hard not to do that again. I looooove my sleep, but I don't want to sleep away my vacation. I want to pack as much into it as I can! Afterwards, we're getting home Saturday so we'll have Sunday to rest up before heading back to work Monday!

Must be a Michigan thing....we did the exact same thing as you.... Going in Feb on the Valor.. Going to try to stay up....past 8pm!!!!!

  7. I looked at spirit airlines for my flight in February. It was $280 plus $35 for a carry on bag plus $30 for a checked bag. And if I picked a seat that ranged from $15- $30. all of the extra charges were EACH way. Not such a great rate after all.

Oh yeah...forgot about all that extra garbage....you're right!!!

  8. This will be my last response in this thread. To my very first post I was treated to someone "rewording" my post for me as if I didn't know what I was saying initially, instead of simply offering a response. The very next response was a very condescending one, finished off with eye rolls. Yeah that's real nice. To the couple of posters who simply posted responses without all the aforementioned rudeness, I thanked them. Yes, I find a $260 one way flight to FLL absurd. I've never paid this type of fare before and it was a shock. The OP apparently was surprised over rising FLL prices as well, which is why they started the thread. I get it. All of you don't agree. Fine. I'm done with it as with this entire forum.

FYI, This is a MESSAGE BOARD. It's meant to DISCUSS various topics. If you're so smart and experienced that this type of forum bores or frustrates you, simply don't respond!

My co cruisers are flying from Detroit to San Juan RT for $288.98 on Spirit Air..for a Feb cruise.... While my husband and I have the unfortunate luck to retire to Knoxville Tennessee next month from Detroit, where we would have gotten that great price only to find we have to pay $1004 for 2 RT tickets while the Detroiters are paying $578.00 for 2.RT tickets.....big difference..we are losing our hub....it's kind of sickening....

  9. My husband refers to them as "Crush My" Spirit Airlines. Although we have never been delayed or had any problems, you are crammed in like Sardines. I'm not even 5' and my legs almost hit the sit in front of me:eek:

I agree..it's tight...hadn't flown in 24 yrs...had NO IDEA what to expect...flew from Detroit to NYC...you're up...you're down...short flights are ok...then once for a cruise to FLL which was jammed but ok...I wouldn't fly to the North Pole on them thats for sure...my sister in law flew to Cancun out of Detroit

..that would have even been a little long for me...won't be flying them anymore moving to Knoxville next month and they are nowhere around. ..

  10. Me too!!!

I totally get the statistic thing that it's safe to fly... really I do. But the little portion of my brain where that phobia resides doesn't really care so much about the statistics. However, I LOVE to cruise and travel in general and this usually requires some amount of flying. I just pop an anti-anxiety drug, order a glass of wine the second the beverage cart comes around (totally ignoring the fact that the aforementioned pill shouldn't be combined with alcohol :p) and try to find something to occupy my mind until I can get my feet back on Terra firma :D

    Melissa

Ok I laughed when I read this.....I thought I was the only one who does this Melissa!!!! Whatever gets me through the flight...is all right! !!

  11. We keep our cash in the safe and only carry what we think we will need for each day in port, plus a little extra just in case. Never had any problem with it. Take small bills so you don't have to depend on getting change.

That's how we roll too!!! Exactly!!!

  12. Every cruise we do wine tasting... And on lobster night I try to beat my previous cruise's record for lobster tails eaten.. Last time I ate 5.

5!!!! My husband had three and I thought he would explode!!! Funny!!! I get up early when its still dark get a cup of tea and sit on the top deck..love being awake when we get close to the port...and just being alone...it's nice and relaxing!!!

  13. We also booked quite far out this year for the first time!!

We don't leave until March 28,2015 and I think we booked it back in May!

We have lots of smaller land trips planned to Palm Springs, Maine, Maui etc. before our cruise next spring!

    Being retired is just wonderful!!!

I hope it's wonderful!! Can't wait to retire. ...my husband is done next month after 25 yrs and I did 28....our cruise is on Feb 2015...just want to vacation all yr long!!!

  14. I have also experienced the...almost embarrassed to say they are going on a Carnival Cruise response...from people...when I hear they are going on a cruise and ask them which line.. They look down and one guy actually rolled his eyes like....oh we are on Carnival...like he was going to the gallows....Don't get it...you can't change people's minds...either they say the ship is dirty....too crowded...don't like being stuck out in the middle of nowhere....their Friend's friend had a horrible time blah blah blah...can't stand people who TRY to rain on my parade!!!! Not happenin....

  15. I agree with someone on here about not micro managing...to me that is the worst part of someone organizing for a gang....we went in a big group in February....I loved that my friend took care of the bookings...I did our own flights....everybody did their own thing during the day..if you wanted to hang along with people who are doing what you want to do..go for it..a lot of people were strangers..at the beginning... But by the end of the cruise it was old home week...we ate near each other every night and usually you ran into others after dinner or in the casino...I like the no pressure thing..there is nothing worse than a den mother plotting out your every move..!!! The good thing with our group was we had none of that...and the one excursion that almost every one of us booked on Roatan together was a wash since we couldn't dock there...go figure!!! .The first day we met for sailaway at the bar after our luggage was in the room...then it was every man for himself...most of the rest of the time..!!! Have a great vacation!!!

  16. I am so excited. I just booked a 5 night cruise for the end of October with my husband for our 25th anniversary. We are sailing on the Victory. When I booked yesterday there was no faster to the fun available but I checked again this morning and someone must have cancelled because one ticket was available!! YAY. Icing on the cake.

Anything I should know about the Victory? We've never sailed this ship. We will be deck 7 aft in a balcony cabin.:)

We were on the Victory Feb'13 for our very first cruise...had nothing to compare it to..we had a BLAST...the food ..service ..EVERYTHING was great...we went on the Glory this past Feb....had better time the first time in regards to the ship....have fun!!!

  17. That would be me

Me too...love seeing the sun rise...the only problem I ever had early like that was on the Glory in February someone was painting...repairing.putting down tar...I don't know what but the smell even out in the open made me sick to my stomach.....really bad smell of asphalt...smelled like a construction zone...It made me hurl.....after that I was fine... Love pulling into ports in the dawn's early light!!!

  18. Our last cruise my husband got so wrapped up in playing the slots WITH his card that I checked the casino balance and was blown away...told him to use cash..that was it wasn't as easy ..or fun to lose when you saw what you were putting in the machine...don't need a casino bill as much as our bar tab!!!

  19. I do consider myself a foodie with adventurous tastes.

I had looked forward to Escargot all week up to the cruise - when we had it - it was an oily mess. No breadcrumbs - no garlic or herbs in there either.

They were overcooked too. Rubbery and Oily - I was so disappointed.

Also all meat I had I asked for Med Rare, and everything was over cooked. Even in Sabatini's my Veal Chop was not even slightly pink...

Highlights though - was the Ahi Tuna appetizer, the lovely Princess Desserts, afternoon tea with scones and Pasta Rustica.

I totally agree with the escargot...mine on Carnival though...it was oily and ....gritty/sandy also... Not much else was bad...

  20. Keep in mind port days. I'm one that wouldn't buy for two reasons. If I drank that much I'd be sick/tired the whole time, and the calories would kill me.

Totally agree wahine.....port days we drink on land mostly...our biggest bar bill...and we like to drink

Was $ 400 on a 7 day cruise...BUT we drank in port...the island beer...etc..by the time we got back it was dinner time and we were done!!!The last thing I want to be is hungover on the ship!!!
