  1. There were threads running last week about the Navigator dry dock schedule being extended, cruises cancelled.

We got an email last week from RCI giving us several options because our cruise was cancelled. One option was to switch our booking to the Jewel. We were given a time frame to make our decision. The transfer to the Jewel was not automatic. We decided to transfer to the Jewel. The price was significantly lower than our NOTS and they also offered an OBC because of the cancellation.

My guess, and only a guess is that we were not notified until yesterday is because we used a travel agent. He said they received an email yesterday morning...still crazy that I was told the night before, not to worry everything is still good to go on the Navigator. Guess I should ask to see if there is going to be a reduced fare and/or OBC offered for those who use a travel agent?:)

  2. Talked to diamond desk last night to inquire about cabin availability and pricing for a friend to join us on an upcoming cruise in February next year as I could no longer find the itinerary searching for it online for days. I was told everything was sold out and all was good to go..

Received a call this morning stating that they had decided back on Feb 27 to transfer everyone over to the Jewel. I specifically asked last night if this was going to be a dry dock situation as to my not being able to locate it, and was told no, not at all.. After a week you would think they would all be on the same page...

Not sure about the Jewel as it is older and smaller than the freedom... We have never been on that ship before.

  3. Hello all,I recently sent an email to the concierge onboard the Oasis to see about reserving an OTW cabanas on the barefoot beach as I was instructed to do by the diamond plus desk. It took about three weeks to get a response and it simply came back that only standard and hilltop cabanas are being offered at this time...

Are they still damaged from the storms possibly?

Has anyone been there recently and noticed?

    Thanks,

    Allen

  4. Traveling with three families of 4 people next week. Two families have our reservations linked and early traditional dining. Just found out that one of the families is on MTD. Nooo!!! This was going to be one of our guaranteed meeting spots each day. I'm pretty sure it's way too late for them to try to get switched to traditional now and the reason we didn't want MTD was we figured it would be impossible to get 12 people into dining at the same time.

Any suggestions? Some comments on the board say that MTD is exclusively in Silk while other comments here say The Grand is split between MTD and Traditional. Trying to figure out if they can make a reservation for 4 people at 6 pm every night and still get seated with us.

    For what it is worth,

I had 4 cabins totaling 9 people for a March 15 cruise, all linked with early dining. I added a cabin with 2 more people on Monday and early reservation was full so it was put on MTD. I had it waitlisted for early and linked to my other 4 cabins. It was moved off of MTD last night and placed on early dining which was previously full.

  5. you mean like fire on the serenade , propulsion problems on the ALLURE..., fire on the Grandeur. march 2014 adventure of the seas 2 weeks of propulsion problems. on 3/23, Royal was going to send the Adventure only partially repaired.they all have issues..

Yes, I agree they all have issues, but for whatever reason the local media had given more coverage time on the Carnival problems. I do not recall seeing any other ships/lines making the local news broadcasts with exception of the Concordia.

  6. A very good question, and it's been that way since about mid-May 2014.

Isn't that about the time that Carnival had a series of issues w/breakdowns and people being stranded in less than desirable conditions? I don't mind paying a little extra for peace of mind regarding safety and on time performance.

  7. In the past, this glitch was triggered by logging into your My Cruise account and doing something with the booking. Just wondering if this could have been your trigger, or are we looking at a new trigger?

I was in my account looking at a reservation I had put on hold for a friend while they decided. Once off of the conference call to release the cabin, I looked to see if it was still there. It was and still is today as well.

I did ask the agent to link it to my account for dinner purposes.

I made no changes to my reservation.

  8. Just received an email .pdf copy of my invoice from Royal on a cruise I had paid off in late December 0f 2014. It showed I had a balance owed of 860.00. Thought this was odd since I had paid an additional 750.00 on it to have OBC when I cruised. I checked the payment section on my cruises account ad it stated I had a balance owed of 1610.00

After a 1 hour call with RCI it was determined that there was a system wide glitch and my cabin for a March 15th sailing, had been repriced to an amount that was 1610.00 higher than I had originally paid.

If I had not read the email and called, my cabin was subject to resale for non-payment tomorrow morning.

Anybody else get an email invoice that they DID NOT request? Beware!

  9. I doubt RC would even consider doing this for you but you should call them to see if this is possible.

IMO you are more likely to get this to happen if you approach the people directly once onboard. I know I wouldn't mind moving over one same category cabin in such a situation, especially if that cabin is the prized center hump one and one were to throw in a paid specialty restaurant booking or even a bottle of wine. I do it even without the latter offer, being the nice guy I am. ;)

I agree with you on this, I would rather switch than to be in the middle of the balcony conversation everyday! Thanks for being a nice guy!

  10. First I'd check on the roll call. Statistically not terribly likely that they will be active on the roll call, but if the occupants are there, you'd be able to communicate directly. They may be happy to switch without bribery/compensation if your cabin location is as good or better than their's. And you could buy them a bottle of wine or a specialty dinner or something once on board as a thank you.

I have not heard of the company contacting customers for this. You could call and ask; worst you will hear is 'no.'

    Good luck.

Not sure exactly how to word this on the roll call but I am going to give it a try. But as you stated the odds earlier, it is not very active.

  11. I have a feeling this will be a no-go through RCI....but, I'm assuming you will be switching with the other OS...not expecting them to switch with the D cabin??!! Of course, you could alway board early and see if the other occupants would be ok with swapping.... I'm not sure offering them money would be right....it's an even swap, if they agree to it. Maybe buy them a bottle of wine?

    Good luck!

Yes it would be a even swap of OS's so we could be beside the D cabin just forward of center hump. I will give it a try as we usually board early. I guess RCI doesn't,t mind the switch?

  12. Does anyone know if RCI would assist in contacting the cabin owner in regards to a cabin swap in exchange for an extra OBC. I have late deciding friends joining us on our next cruise in March and we are trying to get our cabins "balcony connected".

When we booked over a year and a half ago all of the OS cabins were available and we took the same cabin as always on the hump. There is one OS between our cabin and our friends D1 balcony. Not sure on even how to try and contact to see if they would be interested, if so what would the proper OBC offer be?

    Any thoughts are welcomed!

You can usually start around 1130 am. This has been the case for us in the past...we are on the same cruise tomorrow as well.

  14. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on where to stay in Galveston the night before we cruise. Also, if you know of any cool places to eat, get a drink, etc. that information would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance

We have sailed out of Galveston several times over the years and have tried several places to stay I doing so. We liked the Hilton quite a bit over the Gálvez and South Houston hotels. Our last 5 trips we have stayed at the Harbor House located in the marina next to the cruise terminals. We like watching the cruise ships come by the room on Sunday morning. This is our "go to hotel" if available. Book early as it sells out quickly.

There are several restaurants in the immediate marina area to eat at. We are currently at the hotel awaiting our annual New Years cruise(also our anniversary). We ate at the Fishermans Wharf last night, the service and food was excellent. The drinks were appropriately priced and not watered down.
