  1. We were on the same cruise too. This was one of the easier embarking and debarking but we did do self assist as deck 3 was called first. We were also fortunate to have our drill in the theater (we have lucked out about 4 or 5 times out of 20+ cruises). There are some areas in need of light maintenance but one of the bartenders said they had a dry dock coming up in October. Steven was great in the piano bar and we ended up hanging out there several nights. Grand Turk tip, head further to Jacks shack where the beach is mostly rock free and no seaweed issues there.

  2. We were at Grand Turk this Wednesday 19th September and we went straight to jacks shack. We noticed no seaweed there in the water and very little on the beach. There appeared to be some to the right of the pier by the ships but nothing like some of the prior pictures.

  3. Our son is on the spectrum and 15 now. We have cruised since he was 6 and have used noise canceling headphones and still do. Now he knows the procedure but our thought when he was younger is he would always be with one of us anyway. He was not a fan of camp carnival when younger. Do check with special needs dept as mentioned.

  4. These are 3 of our favorite ships. I assume getting to the ports is not a factor. I would also choose east and if the breeze is higher then the magic then magic since same ports and not a lot of difference in the two. Grand Caymans has the nicest beach on the western iteniary but you can find nice beaches on all the east ones too. St Thomas we typically take an excursion over to St Johns.

  5. We have sailed both and would pick Vista still. One more port plus the most choices for extra restaurants and sky ride, water slides for the kids. Once you get past the lack of the grand atrium and glass elevators the overall decor and extras we rated the Vista just above the breeze for favorite ship. Another great feature is the ability to walk around the exterior deck 5 and for several of the bars to have outside seating on the same deck. Both ships will be moving in the next year but if you miss the Vista before she heads to TX the Horizon will operate same iteniary.

  6. Driving the same day your main issue will be ATL traffic. We made it last month but on a Sunday in about 6 hours starting NW of Atlanta. If you are anywhere north of Atlanta I would leave by 6am or earlier. The elation is the only cruise ship at the port so parking is not bad.

  7. I agree half moon is probably the nicest from clean white sand and turquoise waters plus we were there 3 weeks ago. Other favorites are 7 mile beach on Caymans, the beach on St Martin that you take a 5 min water taxi to near the port was a favorite depending on hurricane recovery now. St John beaches (ferry across from St Thomas) have always been nice too.

  8. Download the carnival hub app for the prior mentioned $5 chat plan. It will also have other features for ship map and fun times. We have used chat feature on last 2 cruises and good way to keep up with each other.

  9. We have sailed both recently (Magic Sept 2016 and Vista April 2017). The magic has one of our favorite cruise directors Dr E but we enjoyed Mike Pack if he is still on Vista. Overall I would choose the Vista and my 15 yr old agrees. The overall decor of the ship is nicer and a few more specialty restaurants and few more activities such as the sky ride, imax. Both have great water parks. Ports are pretty equal but not knowing post hurricane recovery I would choose st Martin over st Thomas but barely as st John is an added plus when going to Thomas. I think the 8th day would be the final deciding point.

  10. Hi I’m Rusty and along with my wife and son we are all addicts. It took a few years to kick in. We took our first few in the late 90’s but not till the last few years did we become really addicted. Now after a few Disney and Royal Caribbean and about 20 carnival we have to have at least 2 on the books to satisfy our sickness. We actually have 5 booked thru 2019 now and we still find ourselves pricing future ones out. If only we had unlimited funds and time off. We love the sunshine for being a mid size ship with so many upgrades. She is actually a future September cruise that will be our third sailing on her. Book early and use early saver and watch for any price drops.

  11. I second the port hole room suggestion if they are available. We stayed in room 2221 on conquest in September and they are definitely bigger than inside rooms with the benefit of a window. We did not have issue with excess noise either.

  12. We are on conquest tomorrow too. Last year we did one of the coconut cove beach breaks. It is a 40 min ride on a dirt road but also good way to see part of the island. We enjoyed the beach area and food and they made a great mojito. I'm still waiting for them to post which excursions will be available but Riu resort is another one we may choose since all inclusive. Now to find an open hotel with power in Ft Lauderdale. Our reserved one is out now.

  13. We have sailed the last 8 mid September's due to school breaks and lucked out so far with no diversion or cancelled ports. Majority sailed out of Miami and port canaveral. The reduced rates compared to summer rates helps too. We don't always get insurance which is probably not the smartest but did for this September. Another advice if you drive and park is choose a higher floor on the parking decks just in case there is any storm surge there you are less likely to have an underwater car.

  14. Great positive review. I would have definitely stayed on the ship too and taken the credits but what a great bonus to get key west. That stop is still on our to do list. Enjoyed the pictures as we are sailing the Fantasy in February. The wife and I sailed her in about 2001 so excited to see the changes. Our son has not been on a fantasy class yet but I think every other class so he is actually looking forward to it too.

  15. I would choose the 8 day sunshine. We have sailed her twice and did that same itinerary sept 2015. We are sailing the 6 day vista in April more so for the ship. St Maarten you can just take the water taxi when you exit the ship for a few dollars each across to a great beach. You can rent some chairs and umbrellas and food and drinks right there too. St kitts we have grabbed a cab and several beaches you can visit. Carambola beach club is nice one.
