If you write a review for the Celebrity Antarctica cruise, please post a link here.  It's on my bucket list!😊

If you are going to cruise to Antarctica, do a real Antarctica cruise on an expedition ship! Only 100 people are allowed on Antarctica at a time (by international treaty), so large cruise ships (like Celebrity, NCL, etc) do not allow you to disembark in Antarctica. Waste of time, if you ask me 🤷🏼‍♀️ You will literally just do scenic cruising and never step foot on Antarctica!

I did Albatros Expeditions on Ocean Victory in December 2021 - it was awesome!!!

To London, but we can make our original flight home as was intended.  Part of why we were different from others is we used fly2fun and others did not for several reasons.  They def did fly2fun first.

I booked via Fly2Fun and they never scheduled us a charter. I got a last minute call saying if we could be at the bus in 10 minutes, then we could fly out today - they gave us seats on a flight from a B2B cruiser who had changed their mind and decided to stay on board.

Yes, you read that correctly. They assigned a chartered flight to someone who had planned to be on the ship until the 30th before they assigned a chartered flight to me and my husband. And we HAD booked Fly2Fun!

When we arrived to the airport (***8*** hours before our scheduled flight) we received no vouchers for food, in a tiny airport with one café in it, and then we discovered a few hours later that we were actually NOT on the flight manifest. Carnival then asked us to pay for a taxi with our own money and drive to Hamburg for a different flight? When we finally landed at the airport, Carnival was supposed to drive us all to our hotels - but the Carnival rep informed everyone the bus would only be driving to Heathrow. Everyone had to get their own taxis.

There are literally hundreds of people who encountered the same types of screw ups. The OP in this post is probably one of a dozen people who had their accommodations work out fine.

We love the cold soups in the MDR and depending on the flavor, sometimes we have it as an appetizer and then for dessert.  My favorite was the lychee cold soup but have only seen it once on the menu.

What?! They have Lychee flavor too?! Now I’m even more excited! I’m such a dork - I’m more excited about the soup than any of the ports we are going to! Hahaha

I wish they'd cut the crap and just pour the "soup" into the Swirls machines on Lido...we all know it's just soft serve mix.

    I definitely say that it’s just melted ice cream/sorbet - I don’t know what’s it’s actually made of, I just know I love it! 🤣

Love the cold soups as well!  Mango and strawberry are tied for my favorite.  I did see cold soups on RCCL buffet probably 5 years ago.  I wish Carnival served on buffet as well.  Probably too many like me who would steal a water pitcher and fill it with the soup 😁

🤣 We have only been on one RCCL cruise and they didn’t have cold soup. But NCL, Costa, Albatross, and Princess don’t have it!

  6. The last time I sailed on Carnival was in 2013. I absolutely *loved* their cold soups that were served in the MDR. I have sailed on multiple other cruise lines since then, and have never seen cold soup on the menus. We are finally returning to Carnival, sailing in July 2023 on Pride, 12-night Northern Europe.

I have seen sample menus posted in these forums, and know the soups are still being served.

Is it possible to know the menus for our specific sailing in advance (so that I do not make Steakhouse reservations on a night I could have the soup)? Thanks!

On our first Med cruise on RCCL's Brilliance we just did an inside cabin for the 12 days. It was very port intensive and the money we saved on just having an inside cabin went for some incredible tours as well as souvenirs from every port. The inside cabin was fine and we really didn't even think about not having a balcony (or even a window). We spent hardly any time in our cabin save for sleeping, getting ready for the port day, getting ready for dinner and evening shows. Our 2 or 3 "at sea" days, we just hung out in the common areas, slept in or took an afternoon nap to recover for the next "in port" experience. It was really a non-stop 10 day event (or so it seemed). I would do the same thing again for a Med Cruise.

That said - we did book a 12 night Baltic Sea cruise for July 2023 on the Pride and did opt for an extended balcony. 2 reasons for doing this. (1) With 4 "at sea" days I think we will get some use out of the balcony because the scenery will be somewhat unique and we have never been to that area. Temperatures should be mid 60's to low 70's during July. (2) We booked the cabin during the dirt cheap pricing of the "You only Turn 50 Once" sale. This was a replacement for the 15 night Hawaii we had booked and lost due to COVID - that was a replacement for the 16 night Mardi Gras New York to Florida repositioning that we lost due to shipyard delays. We ended up actually getting back about $2500 from the earlier canceled Hawaii cruise and we still have $600 OBC for the Baltic Cruise. So that $2500 will help pay for airfare from San Diego to London and a pre-cruise hotel.

We have a bowling alley balcony for our upcoming 10 day to Alaska on Miracle in June. We had 29 cruise days scheduled during COVID that we lost. Booked 29 new cruise days to replace them in 2022/2023 and got back close to $3900 (difference between fully paid old and new cruises) and we still have $600 OBC for each of our upcoming 3 cruises. Made some serious lemonade from the COVID lemons we were dealt.

I think we are on the same sailing! 12-night Pride on July 9, 2023 out of Dover? We booked a Vista on deck 4, I can’t wait!!!

It may depend upon which port  you want.

    For example, from New Orleans

    carnival cruises on Valor.

    NCL uses Breakaway.

There is simply no comparison between the two.

On any given itinerary, the ports and shore excursions will be the same.

If you cruise in suites, NCL offers perks for suites, Carnival does not.

I have two Carnival suites booked in the next 18 months. They DO come with perks - expedited boarding, special lounge during check in, priority disembarkation at ports, free water, free on-demand movies, free room service, free soda package, guaranteed restaurant reservations, etc…

This is in Mardis Gras. I am assuming the price of the suites on that ship justifies a line at guest services.

We have a Vista Suite booked on Pride in July 2023 for 2 people.

We also have an Excel Corner Suite booked on Mardi Gras in February 2024 for 3 people.

The suite on Mardi Gras was $2k LESS than the suite on Pride, despite being a better room and having an additional guest. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am getting ready to insure my trip, I have done it many times for full amount I paid for cruise, I am thinking maybe I should minus the port charges when requesting a quote, I have read recently that you should only include non refundable amount of trip.  Anyone have any info on this?

Norwegian is one of the few cruise lines that does NOT refund port taxes and fees when a port is cancelled. I was on Escape in August and they cancelled Corfu AND Mykonos, replaced with extra sea days, and we didn’t get a dime back.

Seems like you would do better saving 10% through Allstate (no membership required). If you buy using a cashback credit card (Citi DoubleCash) you could get 12%.

If you must buy at a grocery store some of the grocery stores eg. Mariano’s in IL give gas points also. Potentially one could get up to 8% in gas points in addition to 6% cash back at grocery stores using the Amex CC…….

How do you buy gift cards through Allstate? I do not have insurance through them…

I purchased a couple $500 e-gift cards through Rakuten’s App, which redirects you to SuperShop, who is offering Carnival GCs for ~5% off currently ($473.75 for $500 GC) with additional 2% cash back from Rakuten, but then discovered GCs are excluded from the 2% promotion hahaha, so it’s really hardly any savings at all…

I just bought the value package for 6-nights and the total was $66.30. Our cruise is in December, so looks like they’re honoring the previous price even if the cruise isn’t before October 1. Thanks for the heads up! I can’t stand the idea of not being able to Google every thought that pops into my head.

They are honoring the price for all cruises, as long as the package is purchased before October 1 🙂

I have cruises booked for July 2023 and February 2024, I took advantage of the notice and prepaid for our internet packages yesterday!

Our airfare from Toronto to Miami was around $350 CAD for our trip in Nov. And we got the "2nd passenger flies free" promo.

Currently the same flight is over $800 for one person. Total win for us.

We sailed from Rome in August and paid $1099 pp USD from Boston (so really $550/pp) which was a GREAT deal when we booked it 2+ years ago!!!

Now they want $1149/person for Boston to London. That’s NOT a promotion. That’s full price airfare where I don’t get to choose my flights and will get stuck on a red eye with 2 inexplicable layovers, despite one ocean separating these two cities. So…yeah, I booked direct.

If their “free” airfare becomes a deal for the customer again in the future, I’ll certainly use it but I’m not gonna hold my breath for that to happen.

We have stayed in an aft excel suite on the 15th floor.  Absolutely fantastic room(s).  On this floor totally private.Great views of the aft section of ship, grat access to loft 19. I have many pics in my first review of MG cruises.  You will not be disappointed.  We are doing one (15th floor again)  on Celebration 1/22/23

The 15th floor was quiet despite being below the pool deck?! Our travel agent originally offered us the 15th floor but we figured we would get woken up by lounge chairs sliding across the deck at 0500 every morning 🤣

Ultimately it didn’t matter anyways, since we decided to bring our youngest son on this trip and the corner suite on deck 15 only sleeps 2 people, so we couldn’t book it. We booked on deck 10.

Good for you! I hope you have a wonderful time. 😃

We can enjoy socializing but also like to have a nice space of our own when we want to get away from the crowds but still have a view. We're willing to pay more for rooms with large balconies because we will definitely use them.

Exactly! We are ALL about the balcony! We don’t go to any of the parties on the ship, occasionally we will go to the shows. We cruise for the ports of call, to relax in a hot tub, and enjoy our balcony!

I very excited about the daybed! 🤣

We have an aft excel corner suite booked for an October cruise. We'll be on deck 11 on the port side. After watching youtube videos and seeing various photos we decided that looked like a good height for us: yes the back-facing portion of the balcony is visible to others but that also means we get to people-watch if we feel like it.

The side seems more private and the port side in particular has the benefit of a covering over the guys pig & anchor area on deck 8 which we're hoping will at least somewhat mute the sound and will definitely help with privacy from people looking up on that side.

So, if we want to people-watch (and be watched) we can hang out in the aft-facing areas (and of course enjoy that wonderful wake view too!) and if we want things a bit more quiet/private we'll hang out on the side.

Feel free to at-mention me the last week of October and I'll let you know how well reality met up with our expectations! 😆

I will definitely do that! We went ahead and booked it since the price was so right and there were only 2 left! We are getting this awesome suite on an amazing ship for $2k LESS than we are spending on a Vista Suite on the considerably less impressive Pride next year!

  17. I am interested in booking an Excel Aft Suite on the Mardi Gras, because of the private hot tub on your balcony. Looking at the deck plans though, do the balconies overlook deck 8? It looks like the aft balconies on deck 9 and 10 have a clear view of whatever is going on on deck 8? Is that true?

Did you get it through you TA sponsored promo or from a Carnival promo that you booked through a TA? If it was through a Carnival promo (I had two like that back during the initial restart) then it should show up on your account at Carnival .com. Go under the Booking and Order details tab then look under the Invoice Tab of that section and it's listed at the bottom of the invoice.

It was given to us by the TA. We decided to book a suite and he said, “in that case, I can give you $500 OBC and X, Y, Z”. I didn’t realize we wouldn’t be able to pre-book things with it…

  19. I haven’t sailed Carnival in almost 10 years. We booked through a TA and they gave us $500 OBC. When I sign into the “Carnival Hub” I don’t see anywhere to view your OBC?

Where is it? I would like to be able to keep track of it when I start booking things. Thanks!

Unfortunately it's not available on all treatments as you have to select the ones that say bundle and save as below.

Well I went back and sorted them to only include the items that were bundle and save eligible. It still doesn’t give you the discount. Perhaps the website is having a glitch tonight???
