  1. Question for people going on Baltic Capitals Cruises this summer or have gone this season so far.

I know the roll calls have changed a lot over the years. I've been on many and organized many M&Gs. But I have found with the particular sailing for the Getaway on July 18 for this summer, that we are getting a lot of 1 post wonders on the roll call.

Basically someone comes to promote one of the 3 main Baltic Tour Companies and never comes back to the roll call. Anyone else experiencing this on their Baltic Capitals Roll Calls? I'm really beginning to think it is actually the Tour Companies creating profiles and dropping posts into the Roll Call Threads.

I mentioned it on my roll call a while back and they stopped for a short time. No one is chatting and the only posts really are just a big promotion of these companies. It's pretty sad. I know it's a port intensive cruise. I've done Europe cruises before, but just never quite experienced this before.

  2. I always smile when I see people posting for information on new promos to be released in the future. I they were to be released early then people wouldn't book with the present promos if they knew the new ones would be better. Any form of early release is not in the interests of NCL.

Well, really I was trying to find out if anyone else heard the same thing I heard. Basically if you travel in suites, the deal won't be quite as suite anymore. But we will see when June 6 comes around

  3. I am concerned.... I booked this cruise for my daughter's 13th birthday and she is bringing a friend who is 14. The whole purpose and point of the cruise was to celebrate her birthday with her friend. They were really looking forward to going to the teen club to meet other people. Though, my daughter won't be turning 13 until a week after our cruise. But, we booked this cruise because we wanted these ports or the week of her birthday the Escape is going to the Eastern Caribbean. I thought it would be ok because on their sight it says, "Children turning thirteen (13) years old during the cruise are welcome to register for and participate in the Entourage Program beginning embarkation evening." I may need to speak to a manager. We have spent over $5000 on this trip. And for it to be ruined over a policy that will keep my daughter and her friend apart. I'd much rather them hang out in the club than roam the ship. If they won't let my daughter into Entourage maybe they will let her friend stay with her in Splash?

I am so sorry that your almost teen and her friend won't be able to hang out in the teen club. If for some reason you do get an exception, We would love for you to come back here and let us know. In cruising with my kid on Norwegian since he was almost 2 until now him being 14. I have not seen exceptions except 1 time.

I homeschool my kid so we can travel. We were on a Panama Canal Cruise. He was 11 at the time. There was also 1 kid 13 and 1 kid that was 15. All other kids on the ship were under the age of 6. We met the one family with the 15 y/o (homeschoolers also) The family with the 13 y/o we only a couple times around the ship. About 4-5 days into the 16 day cruise, I was talking with the Cruise Director about my son. Told him we had met the one family of the 15 y/o and the boys were hanging out together playing video games on their Ipads. We asked if the 2 boys could sit in the Teen Entourage and play video games. He said, they never waiver on the rules, but he would ask the Hotel Director. Well, about that time, the HD was walking by. I approached him and with the CD explained the situation again. The HD understood the dilemma we were in, we said he wanted to communicate with the other family to ask their feelings. After another day. The 2 boys were allowed to hang out together in the Entourage area and play video games. The 13 y/o never wanted to participate. We found out toward the end of the cruise, we was from another country and didn't understand English, so stuck with his family.

So, to say an exception is never made I guess is not really true. But the circumstances and the avenues we had to go through make our situation extremely different from one where there are a number of kids and teens on a ship.

    Good Luck to you

  4. We cruise Norwegian all the time. When our schedule fell that we could only do a cruise with my son and his 13th Birthday was 2 weeks after sail date, we moved to Royal.

He had an amazing time on the Allure of the Seas and was part of the teen club.

We've since cruised Norwegian now that he is almost 14 and he loved Norwegians Teen Club also

I so get your dilemma and understand it completely. Our kids/teens are on vacation also and we need to look out for their interests as well as our own

  5. That is correct i typed 11:05 by mistake, its off course 10:55 that the train departs from the airport.

The 11:15 departure only gives you 9 minutes and the 10:55 gives you 29 minutes.

    But just a curious question.

If you are staying at the Cabinn City why are you then searching for tickets from the airport.

It will be easier and less confusing if you just search from the central station.

I finally figured it out. I did not realize how close the central station was and to be honest with not understanding the language, I had a hard time getting the Name of the Central Station in as the departure place for me. But I figured it out.

Thank you so much for your patience with me. I will definitely book from the Central Station. This is what I finally figured out to put in for the central station; Koebenhavn H

Airport was used because I knew that name. No other reason

  6. If you are leaving from the Cabin City You only have a 6 minute walk to the central station

For the direct train there seems to be 4 direct train each day and on every departure you take the Øresund train at 07:15, 11:15, 15:15 or 17:15 with arrival at the central station at XX:28.

The direct train then departs from the central station at 07:37, 11:37 etc etc

So you have 9 minutes to change train, if I was you I would take a earlier departure at 07:05 etc etc etc.

I am sorry that I am having such problems understanding. I promise I'm a pretty smart traveler, but am just having a hard time with this part of our trip.

When I put the 3 passengers in, I see what you posted with the 9 minute train change.

But I'm also seeing this: Would it be an option, or am I just in the wrong area:

Sorry, tried copying what I see and it didn't come out correctly. Let me try again

  7. Hi Danish Viking,

I want to say thank you! You are such an amazing person to help us all out.

I have another question. As I'm really just delving into all my research. I've been looking at the train from Copenhagen to Hamburg. I'm traveling with a teenager and his grandmother. We want to try something different, thus the train that goes on a ferry.

My question is, where is the train station in relation to the Airport. Or better yet, in relation to Cabinn City Hotel. I've put into the bahn train booking engine Copenhagen Airport as my starting location. Want to pick the right starting point.

Also, I noticed we will have to change trains at least one time shortly after our initial boarding. The system first showed me something where we had 9 minutes to get to next train. I then found one that gave us like 25 minutes. I think this is better for us. How difficult is it to change trains. It looked like we would have to go from a platform 1 to a platform 6. Are platforms generally close?

  8. You're right--the Cabinn Metro is not close to attractions such as Tivoli, Nyhavn, Stroget, or Rosenborg Palace. The public transportation in Copenhagen is very good, so there's likely to be a way for you to get into "touristy" Copenhagen from that hotel, but wouldn't you rather just be able to walk?

For a budget-friendly hotel that's within walking distance of the afore-mentioned sights, look at the Wakeup Hotel Borgegade. We stayed there a couple years ago and were able to walk to these tourist sites. It's also close to bus and Metro lines so we used public transportation to get from the airport to this hotel and from the hotel to Oceankaj.

Thank you for your assistance. Unfortunately I've seen the Wakeup Hotel Borgegade mentioned a few times on this site and I've periodically checked the availability, but my dates are sold out.

So, I've found a couple other budget hotels around Tivoli Gardens - Would this be an OK location so that we are closer to other touristy things. One I found is Cabinn City (it's in the budget I like) We are doing so much on our trip, that our hotel in the cities we are staying in are where we really want to save a few dollars

  9. I'm going to look for the "old" Copenhagen Thread, but while I continue to do research, I'm going to pose my question. Thank you so much for your assistance: I will be in Copenhagen for 2 nights late July 2017

*I have a very inexpensive hotel reserved - Cabinn Metro, but don't really have any idea where it is located in relationship to touristy stuff. We are staying 2 nights post cruise, with 2 days to explore. Third day we are taking the train from Copenhagen to Hamburg

So, I'm willing to pay a bit more for a hotel that is VERY centrally located for tourist stuff, especially if I'm going to be paying cab fare to get from my cheap hotel to the touristy stuff.

Or can anyone tell me how good the public transportation is. I can see if my hotel is near any public transportation which could make it easy to get to touristy stuff. I've used public transit in London, Paris and Italy. So I know I can do it, just like to be somewhat prepared

Also, who knows, maybe I picked a cheapo hotel that is close to something. But I highly doubt that.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank you

  10. This happened to me last year. NCL should certainly tell passengers they are sending your booking somewhere else other than in the terms and conditions. It takes 15 second to ask and answer instead of dealing with longer calls once home. My dh and I had no clue.

We purchased FCC and booked Escape while onboard the Breakway last August. A few while later, the Big Box discount store that I used in the past send me my invoice. I had no intention on using them since they now only give store gift cards and knew I wanted to shop for a new TA with good OBC. It took a couple of calls to finally get it moved back to NCL before I could then move to a new TA. My dh and I were never once told about sending to an old TA I would have told them no since I knew we werent going to be using them.

I understand people get excited, but I also get so tired of people that want to blame everyone(cruise line in this instance) when they just don't READ. Unfortunately our society doesn't think rules and procedures should apply to them.

If you don't read and you sign, then that is your problem and no one else's.

  11. If you book onboard the ship, then you get those lower deposits and the OBC.

If you use a travel agent, and say for example you used a TA for the cruise you are on. The booking you make onboard will go to your TA of record(the one that booked the cruise you are on)

I would let your TA know that when you are on your sailing, you may take advantage of the onboard booking and know the reservation will go to them. ASK your TA, if I do that when I get home will you be able to look at the reservation and offer me something extra (maybe more OBC) If you TA is not willing to do that, the CHANGE TAs. It can be done! As a TA and not as a TA

  12. I just returned from a cruise on the Epic. One of our stops was the Private Island. Well, they are charging tax on drinks you purchase on the Island.

But be careful. I was traveling with a friend who does not drink alcohol. Well went to the beach bar. Got a Virgin Daquri, 2 sodas and a regular Pina Colada. That was it. Had all of our cards showing Beverage package (which virgin drink is covered on) and soda package.

Well, customer service desk produced a receipt on my card for our drinks on the Island. It showed the "taxes" for 8 coronas, 4 miami vice, 2 mojitos and 4 sodas. So basically everyone around me that ordered drinks at that beach bar had all their drinks on my single card. I wasn't charged for the drinks, but I had a charge for around $14. Now if it had been what we ordered only, I would not have complained. But I was not paying the taxes for every drink ordered in the same few minutes we ordered ours.

So, just beware and look and questions your bill. Check it periodically through out the cruise.

  13. Hi JW,

I see no pictures on the First Page of this thread.

I have the MSC Seaside booked for both March 24 and March 31 in the Yacht Club. I'm waiting for our local school calendar to be published and now I hope and pray I get to sail with you guys again. Depending on the school break, I will have to cancel one of the weeks. Please cruise gods, let it be the March 24 week that I have to cancel

  14. I have not cruised Disney personally. Never felt I could justify the price.

I just had some clients sail the Getaway and they are very frequent Disney cruisers. They felt their upsell to the Haven and some specialty restaurants made Norwegian similar to Disney. They are not casino people, so that is not a factor to them.

But they did tell me they prefer Disney and if they cruise NCL again they would only do haven, which puts prices on par with Disney

  15. Been on all 3. If you can do The Haven on Getaway then that wins hands down.If the Haven is beyond you budget, nothing can compare to the Oasis Class ships they are truly amazing. Ports would factor more to me than drinks. You can buy drinks or a drink package.

IMO Outside the Haven, food is better on Royal. They have more pool options and the ship generally felt much less crowded.

    DITTO!

Was about to type the same exact comment

  16. We were in the same boat (forgive the pun), booked early 2015 from the Star to the Jade and then displaced to either the EPIC or the DAWN,, they gave me the same choice for 6 of us , from a suite in the STAR, to a 2 bedroom suite non haven in the Jade to either a Haven room for 2 people and 4 of my family in an inside room, or the DAWN still in a 2 bedroom suite,, it was a no brainer for me,,, even if i just got off the Dawn last september. Because the other option was just not gonna work, they told me the same thing that my family staying in the inside room won't have all the suite perks that we originally booked for, and that was the best perks then,,,full UDP for all 6 of us, UBP for 2 and soda for all,,free $400 OBC and gratuities for first 2 pax.. they wouldn't upgrade to a 2 BR in a haven of course since we didn't spend all that money..so we are making the best of this trip, we are leaving this sunday and will try to enjoy staying in this room since with NCL really jacking up all the suite prices, we will never be able to afford a suite anymore. plus no more family sail free, only for very limited sailings,,,for those displaced, we have to make the best of what other option was left to us that is workable,,, I'm just thankful we were able to work it out for us,,

I was told EVERYONE would have suite privileges! So different people told different things

  17. The Dawn is sailing out of New Orleans. We needed to sail out of a Florida port.

Hey, feel free to email me. I'd be happy to pass on your info to the hotel director. Maybe that can help you.

I've also been in contact with some higher up people in NCL, maybe I can get you to them.

I want you guys to have a nice vacation. I was stressed for a few days and that just is not positive, do if I can help at all, I will try.

  18. Please stop sharing inaccurate information. Your information is wrong. I'm asking Debbie (djmess). She has mentioned nothing about being moved cabins at check in.

I'm sorry, I can't give you a definite answer. Although my situation was similar to yours, it was slightly different. We had a total of 5 passengers and we put Grandma in the cabin with the 2 kids.

Now at check-in, grandma boarded about 2 hours before us. They did allow us to check in the boys through the Haven area where we checked in.

I did finally have a meeting with the hotel director this evening. I had written him a lengthy note. He talked about having to follow what comes from Miami and Miami said they would not honor suite perks for passengers not in suite.

I also told the hotel director that he would more than likely be meeting another family next week after I disembark that was promised the same things I was by the re accommodations department. I even have everyone the name of the supervisor I worked with during the process.

I think a large problem is the way Norwegian changes policies and never considers what they have previously allowed for older bookings that have not sailed.

I know for a fact in 2010, 2011 and 2012 that Norwegian allowed me to book my then 7, then 8 and then 9 y/o son in a studio cabin next to the studio cabin I stayed in. So yes Norwegian has allowed minor children to be checked into a cabin not occupied by an adult.

I wish I had better answers for you and I'm very sorry that you have to go through this stress. I just hope some of this will help you to get things worked out prior to boarding.

My biggest suggestion is to get in an email or recorded conversation anything that is told to you by Norwegian. Get, first and last names, extension numbers, departments and only talk with supervisors or upper management

  19. We were switched from Spirit to Jade to Epic for February sailing - we had a suite so when we were switched to Epic we were given an H6 and a ID across the hall. My kids are 7&9 so yes they're minors but omg I cannot believe the drama. I called yesterday to get edocs and the headache to get them was insane. Everyone keeps asking me why they put us I this room - well, I don't know, how about you tell me why they wouldn't upgrade me to a 4 person suite??

Anyway with all these questions I'm concerned about the kids having haven access. When I moved over the reservation I assumed they'd give the kids haven cards with dh and I but now I'm unsure. Any experience with this?

    Hi, abbyar

I'm currently on the Epic and was in your same situation. I have wasted more time on this Cruise chatting with concierge, hotel director is totally inept and will not speak to me in person I've written letters, they've emailed corporate and no, Capital NO the people in the inside cabin do not get Haven access at all.

We have been totally screwed over by Norwegian because we booked so far in advance at such a good price it was their way of not honoring everything that we had originally reserved.

I will also say we got off the MSC Divina the day before we boarded the Epic the people on that ship could not have done anything more to show us the absolute best an amazing time. We were given a tour of their Yacht Club as we were only staying in an apt balcony and not the yacht club they just bent over backwards to show us everything that they had to offer. So after getting such amazing service on that ship and then coming to the Epic and having probably the worst service I've ever had on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship I'm very disappointed.

What makes things almost even worse in my situation is I am in the new category Platinum Plus. Loyalty is not something this Cruise Line recognizes anymore they only recognize dollar signs. I earned my Platinum Plus points traveling inside, Ocean View, and balcony cabins. I have only ever booked 3 suites and I have over three hundred and thirty points.

If you can get some kind of documentation from Norwegian saying your kids will have sweet access and perks I advise you do that before you board the ship otherwise they get nothing. Good luck to you and I hope that you get what we were unable to

  20. Well, it's been a long time since they have done anything to really tick off the masses, so this is long overdue. Figures. We've got a 29 day and a 14 day already booked.

The Platinum reward has been a "choose one from each category" for awhile, but that $20 limit?. Is there even a main on the Cagneys menu which is under $20? Nothing says "we value your business" like giving you a free chicken dinner.

Edit: Totally off topic, but anyone else seeing anything different with this forum as far as the format? It now looks totally different for some reason, from the moment I hit the "reply" box.

To comment on your EDIT, Yes a totally different forum look. Boy will this take a while to get used to

  21. The new way of the meal benefit actually sort of beneficial to me or anyone that travels with someone that is a minor(no benefits) or someone that is not at the Platinum level yet. That is if they give the meal benefit as for 2 people. Only time will tell

  22. I think I remember chatting with you on these boards back when this all happened. We had the exact same thing happen to us. Same ships and finally ended up being Epic with Aft Haven suite and Inside across the hall. We have 5 people on our reservation. We booked so that 5 people had Suite Benefits. Can't help that the Epic only has Haven. They would not put us in the 2 bedroom Haven Suite, we had the 2 bedroom non haven on Jade.

We are actually OK with kids and Grandma (now inside cabin) not having Haven courtyard/pool as we didn't have that with original booking, but we do expect Suite Benefits like (Breakfast, Lunch in special restaurant and Butler Service) for all 5 of us

I'm cruising the week before you on Feb 11. I'm bringing every copy of every reservation that led to the Feb 11. I'm also leading up our Cruise Critic Social Media Meet & Greet as we are calling it. We have probably over 60+ people between the 2 social media sites attending.

I will keep you posted when we get aboard and let you know what happens. I know from past organizing of these M&G's, I will meet the hotel director personally and will talk with him about the situation for us if need be. I will also mention that I know there are some on the next sailing with the same situation.

PS, I hate the know it all CCers who say you are not allowed to have minors in a cabin without the adults. (#CB at Sea is correct!) Yes, that appears to be a current rule (not always a rule in the past). BUT when NCL did all these changes, this is what was offered to us also. We were offered to put 3 adults in a Haven Courtyard Suite and the 2 kids in an inside. They did not even require that inside to be close to the Haven Cabin. Well, we didn't take that offer and asked to put grandma with the teenagers and 2 in the Aft penthouse because it is across the hall. We being responsible people.
