  1. We face the same issue,  my sister needs to use a wheelchair majority of the time,  if not seated in wheelchair she is using a walker, due to her disability we never know if she will have a good mental and/or mobility day.  Balance is a issue for her, which requires a shower bench and grab bars.  Regular staterooms are a challenge for her. Having a neurological disability, she needs to think before she acts.  Having a HC cabin on every cruise makes it less stressful, as she does not have to tax her brain.  Encephalitis is not a disability anyone wants to have.    I honestly think cruise lines need to have a Dr fill out a form stating the person needs a handicap room.  In order to get a placard the Dr has to approve it for the person.  This will stop those who take the HC room because they want to have the extra room for the scooter.

Part of the problem is that they don’t have any partly accessible cabins.

i need grab bars in the shower, the higher toilet, and grab bars at the toilet.

Sometimes the step up into the bathroom is no big deal,  other times it is.

So how do you think you should allocate the accessible rooms?  Do I qualify?

On my last cruise, I could not get into an accessible cabin, as we had booked it well before I needed the assistance devices.  We used a standard cabin.  I had to get out of my wheelchair to fold it to get through the door of the room.  I can walk around the room, but if I’m having a bad day, I can’t do much more.

I use a wheelchair part time, a manual that folds.  Some days I can walk, some days I cannot.   To look at me, you would never know it.

  3. meatloafsfan,   We love the pride also have ran into that issue with 3 of us.    I appreciate the comments on other lines,  only problem is we are looking a 2 specific ships as we are cruising with friends.    We will be looking at other lines,  Carnival had always been handicap friendly for us.   Found it very frustrating when I read where folks comment they book the handicap cabin then play wait and see and cancel.  Many folks are now using scooters and booking the handicap cabins for extra room for the scooter.  That is fine and dandy but when you are able to walk up a step and stand in shower or ask for a shower seat but you choose to book the cabin with a roll in shower that someone who is not mobile needs that person is unable to cruise due selfish behavior. I see this becoming a bigger issue as more and more folks with mobility issues are cruising.

  4. I understand what you are saying,  but very frustrating when you see someone using a scooter,  parks it and walks over and gets on a tread mill, yes a passenger did this on a cruise to Hawaii, or they park it at a electric outlet and walks away to play a slot machine.    I have also read on another thread where folks get scooter for a convenience.    It is frustrating when you travel with a person who can not walk without a walker, can not push her own wheelchair and someone has to push them.  Then you see folks who can walk but it is easier to cruise around on a scooter, then park it and walk 15-20 ft across a room.  Also read where many book the HC cabin early then if change plans they cancel the cruise,  not sure if they will need it or not.  That is frustrating, esp when you have folks who genuinely need the HC cabins and other just want it because they had a knee or  hip replacement or are up in age.

  5. We are having difficulty finding accomadations for  3 .We travel with my sister who has a neurorologcal disability,  as we have all aged it is harder for me to assist her if she loses her balance, or other issues.  I keep running in to a road block  cabins are avail. but for only 2 person. We need a fully accessible cabin due to wheelchair and walker.  In past one cruise line has put the my husband in a cabin by self,  if I need his help he is close by.  Recently I have been looking at cruises only to be told nothing available for 3.   IMO this is discrimination toward the person who needs 2 people to assist them.    I have also noticed that people are booking HC cabins who really don't need them.   More and more folks are using electric scooter, nothing against those folks, however if  they do not need a roll in shower with all the grab bars please leave those cabins for those who need them. Anyone else had a issue booking HC cabins is dependent on a wheelchair.   I am talking about a person who mentally can not operate a scooter and we have to push the wheelchair.

  6. When there is joint ownership of stock, let each party sell "their" shares and see what you end up with.

Our 1 account is joint ownership, we were told before we got stock in 2nd account that it was 1 account per cabin. That ruled out the joint ownership for both cabins.

  7. Platinum members use this technique with friends that are not Platinum. The benefit is VIP boarding. Carnival is more then aware of people doing this for boarding and shareholder credit. If they wanted to create rules to stop this they would. But frankly Carnival is accomplishing what they need do and that is to fill cabins at good rates.

Me being Diamond DH is Platinum, we do this when we travel with our friends. We have a way more than the 100 required Carnival stock in the 2 accounts.

  8. I have always faxed in my statement once in the past 10 years it was lost. I always follow up with a phone call to make sure they received it. That is if I do not see it within a few days.

I have booked a cruise 10 days in advance, faxed the info in called to let them know it was faxed got the credit.

You have to make sure the brokerage statement is with 90 days of sailing.

This is a great perk, what bothers me reading on another thread where folks state they are abusing the system and state they are told by Carnival PVP to abuse the system.

I too am Diamond but I also have to follow the rules. FYI you now have to FAX the info in, they no longer accept it by way of email.

  9. As many have said, you need to own 100 shares in your name. If you want credit for 2 cabins and have 100 shares in 2 different accounts with both person names on it. Or 2 different accounts with 1 person name on each account. Or a combination of both types of accounts . You deserve the get the credit for both cabins.

Those who have 1 account and submit it seperately just to get the obc will be the first to complain when they take this perk away.

We have submitted for obc for 2 cabins many many times. That being said DH in one cabin me in the other. We have 2 seperate a/c with 100+ shares of carnival. If a few selfish passengers who cheat the system so we lose this perk, I will be one of the first to complain.

One of our accounts is joint, the other account is in DH IRA account.

  10. Ok, so I broke down and booked an extended balcony midship on empress deck 6. $50 per person deposit sale until Sept. 30th, and not cruising until Feb. 19 2017 on a 7 day western Caribbean itinerary. Still cheaper than aft balcony and premium balcony. The fact that premium balcony are behind the elevators makes me wonder if they worth the extra space and if there is noise from the elevators.

I have never had a issue with the elevators next to my cabin.

  11. We spoke with the hostess on Breeze about DH sodium free. He was given a menu at dinner for the next night and picked what he wanted. Only 1 appetizer did they come back and say they could not prepare for him.

His meals were cooked a little differnt from our with some dishes having different vegetables than the rest of us did.

But he said the food was good.

Talk to hostess on day 1

  12. I have AT&T and got the 10.00 international texting package when we cruised this past June. It is 10.00 for 50 texts, incoming and outgoing each count as 1 text each. It is 10.00 for a month. I only needed it for 7 days so I had them activate it when we left and gave them the date of when we returned to deactivate. We went to Grand Turk, Aruba, Curaçao and Dominican Republic and made and received texts from each place. I didn't text or open a text when we were sailing because I didn't know if that would count in the package or if I would be charged extra for those. It is 10.00 a phone line so I only had it on mine.

    Tina

If you go to ATT site it will tell you the international plan does not work on Carnival Ships or Cellular at Sea international plan only works when you stop at the islands.

Also the International calling cost equals a $1.99 per minute same price as calling from the ship on your cell phone. Not sure if you called from cruise ship if you would pay roaming charges. That would be the only reason to consider buying a package would be to save roaming charges in the ports.

  13. We made Plantinum the old way with 10 cruises. Now I am pushing Diamond

My husband and special needs sister also made Plantinum with 10 cruises. Sis only has around 80 days with 18 cruises. She will most likely never see Diamond does she care no, she just enjoys going on vacation.

DH has 17 cruises with only 125 days cruises. Will he see Diamond probably not unless he and I take longer or b2b cruises.

If not for taking my special needs sister on cruises I would not have the days I have, I am very blessed to have a understanding DH who lets me take my sister on cruises, sometimes he comes with us. I will be Diamond as soon as I book another cruise.

Diamond and Plantinum are overrated with FTTF you pay a few bucks for what we paid thousand of $$ for. Only plus is we get laundry, that is something that works well for my sister and me.

  14. Past Guest Parties are not what they used to be. Used to enjoy going listening to the band, have a few beverages and appetizers, last few we have been on lasted no more than 45 min start to finish.

I think they plan them late afternoon to discourage folks, who wants to leave the pool, clean up for a free drink and appetizer that are not that great anymore.

  15. I also always bought at least one additional one every trip I was on they were sold. They were a good promotion, especially for those booking multiple back to backs to be grandfathered Platinum.

Each and every time I was told about the (2 YEARS to BOOK, 3 YEARS to CRUISE). I just happened to be on the last sailing you could purchase these. They held a specific meeting in one of the lounges to promote them. I won the Slot Tournament and immediately purchased 4 certificates. I saw others purchasing 10-12.

I still have 2 remaining (Sept 2014 to book & Sept 2015 to sail). I'm holding out until the last minute to cash mine in, because I know as soon as I cash them in I will end up booking a trip losing the OBC. :p

I also ask for them back on every comment or feedback.

I have 1 left I bought 4 right before they dropped the program, I too am waiting until last minute to book a cruise.

  16. I agree 100%. Dress accordingly people. If theres a tablecloth on the table then you better be wearing some pants and at least a nice shirt. I'm afraid that Carnival taking away the tablecloths on some of the ships will add to the problem of not dressing appropriately. If the room doesn't look worthy of nicely dressed diners then they are going to get less. Carnival shouldn't expect diners to dress more elegantly if the just have wooden tables to dine on. I know how to dress by the way a restaurant looks and I think most people do too.

I have no issue with nice pair of short and decent tops on both men and women, but on elegant night, (showing my age here) wear your Sunday best clothes.

I am not a fan of novely t-shirts at dinner what I find even more frustrating at any restaurant not just on a cruise ship is guys wearing ball caps at the table. showing my age again sorry
