We are flying into Anchorage in August before our cruise, and are staying at the Princess hotel in Anchorage (Hotel Captain Cook) for three nights and then on a Princess transfer to the ship.  A few weeks ago, I just called the hotel directly and talked to the Princess rep at the tour desk at the hotel. She told me that the Egan center is doing testing daily and that appointments are not necessary.  I plan to call again when it is closer, but that was what she told me.  She said it is a 2 block walk from the hotel (you don't post where you are staying though).    There are also a number of Walgreens in Anchorage that let you make an appointment about 10 days ahead of time, but none of those were in walking distance of the hotel.

Thank you, this is great info! We are staying  at Aspen Suites but have a bus taking us so transportation isn’t a problem.

We did have an excellent time. We avoided the buffet except for one time for breakfast and one time for lunch. We were on the 9 day itinerary so we ate breakfast in the MDR anytime it was available including today. We loved 270 for specialty coffee and lunch. The solarium bistro was also nice. We ate there on embarkation day. The choices are limited in both venues but they are less hectic than the buffet. You can’t get a warm scrambled egg in the buffet or the main dining room for some reason. I just ordered omelets or eggs over easy. Check the compass for time of operation. Go back in the planner and see if they are offering the $10 voom surf and stream. You may be able to call Royal and ask them to add it on. We only added it to one drink package. My wife and I shared the internet package with no problem. The service was great. We were on deck 6 and were able to face time my SIL and BIL who were on a Princess ship the same time we were on Anthem. We also used What’s App to FaceTime with my son who was home.(he has an android phone)Make sure you go into your settings and set up WiFi calling from home before you leave or you will be charged a roaming charge if you do it when you are at sea or in a port. We were also able to use iPhone messenger with anyone who has an iPhone without internet service. If using an android phone down load What’s App and use that. The other party also needs to download the app. You just had to be connected to Royal iQ and Anthem guest WiFi to use either texting service.

Book the shows in advance if you plan to see them.

Thank you!  This is great info and I appreciate it.  I do have an iphone.  What do you mean by setting up wifi calling?  I also have downloaded the Royal IQ app.  Do you think the shows are kid friendly?  We have a 12, 13 and 15 year old.

I just got off of Anthem today. They ran sales for both the internet and drink packages but they were still more than what I pre booked for. If you are getting the drink package and only need internet for one device the best deal is to bundle it with the drink package for $10 a day if they offer it.

Ok thank you.  We already purchased the drink package.  I will look into that!

Any other advice since you just returned?  I hope you had an excellent cruise!!

How many people are you and what is the the exact date you need a hotel?

There are a number of package options.

trinityreservations.com offers several hotels with parking and port transportation and quotes tax included.

Other packages offer hotels and parking but do not quote tax included and separately quote for port transportation.

Embassy Suites and Country Inns offer packages with parking and port transportation, but quotes do not include tax.

There are 8 of us, so two rooms.  July 3

  5. Has anyone rented a car and driven to cruise port? Is there anywhere close to drop off the car and then rent one upon return instead of paying for over a week of rental fees and parking? I hope this question makes sense. We considered renting a car from our local airport, Rochester, and driving to an NYC airport and transferring from there. Just wondering if there might be another option?

    Thank you! :)

  6. Not true... One time we had a flight at 11:25. Talked to representative at passenger service desk to see if there was any way we could do it. She said it was up to the airline. She suggested we submit the form and see what happened. We did and a few days later we received our boarding passes in our mail box...

Thank you! I think I will try to give it a shot.

  7. Taking a cruise with NCL this Friday. We are going with a group by private/chartered motor coach. NCL can't seem to tell us about porter info. With Princess someone comes to the bus and gets the luggage. Does anyone have any personal experience with this?

  8. Going on the Caribbean Princess January 25, 2014. Out of our three ports- Cozumel, Roatan and Belize what is the best for visiting the Ruins?

    Thank you!

  9. It's about 3 short blocks to where the local shops are, and 3 or so more to the end of the boardwalk where the restaurants on the water are. If the hotel has a shuttle they could drop you right by the boardwalk entrance. It's a nice walk along the side of the marina to the boardwalk, with some souviner shops, etc. along the way. I'd consider it well lit along the marina to the boardwalk, but can't say for certain from the hotel to the marina. If I head out there this weekend I'll take a closer look and let you know.

    Thank you so much!
