Taken at sunset in Paris a couple hours ago! (By my talented cousin)

lovely! Are the batteaux mouche sailing again on the Seine? I hope you enjoy your time in Paris and thanks for the live updates. I feel relieved now.

  2. Notre Dame is fine...friends went there today for a mass. I'm in Paris right now having come from Rouen this a.m. There are lots of ships in Rouen, as you've read.

How fares the garden at Giverny?

  3. The Seine is officially closed at Rouen. We will dock in Rouen for 2 nights since we can't sail into Paris. Avalon is then transferring us to a hotel in Paris for 2 nights. We are trying to go with the flow. We are all happy with Avalon's change of itinerary & their communication about the changes with us.

"Go with the flow" that is ironic! Keep up the good attitude and enjoy Paris. ;)

  4. Attn: Rinda & Kadlin summer 2016 cruisers: (early June 2016) According to the news big rains in France flood the Seine. I hear that Rouen is really bad. Is anyone else following this news? I am wondering if the river water levels will be so high to prevent cruising. Anyone else following this?

  5. Sounds really frustrating. Part of the difficulty with such a tour surely would involve the distance from the Seine to the Normandy region, and the reality that roads there are anything but freeways. You have to pick and choose to occupy a finite time, to make it back for dinner (I say this as a veteran of such a day, this past October). What we did see was amazing, but there simply wasn't time for what we WANTED to see.

Can you suggest an alternative to the day at the Beaches in Normandy? I believe the ship is docked in Rouen. We like to get a lot of excersize so a further day on an extended bus ride is not attractive to me. We will have taken the Roeun tour the previous day, and the farm tour.

  6. They maintain smaller ships with shallower drafts for the unique conditions of the Elbe---what's wrong with keeping the smaller ships (Viking Spirit, for example) that ARE able to dock right in Paris proper at Quai de Grenelle? I know, the answer is "greed".

It is shameful that they keep booking passengers knowing full well that they dock in the suburbs. With a big Eiffel Tower on their website.

  7. There will be a guided walk of the LePecq area. Previous Viking cruises on the Danube and Rhine have offered these at 1 & 3 pm. If you arrive at 12 and have lunch on the Kadlin, you can do that tour, unpack and rest.

But since you have your transfer, why not arrange to just send your luggage ahead, and then go into Paris for the day? Taxi, RER, and the express buses are all easy to do. You could then catch the 5pm shuttle back to the Kadlin.

I called Cust Svc and asked if we could end our luggage ahead and was told no. Is CS wrong AGAIN? If we can do that, it solves all our woes. I will email the ship

  8. Hello villagirl

Have you had a look at the comments in the roll call section? Perhaps there is some info on this.

I am having trouble finding any roll calls at all for the Kadlin 2016 cruises.I keep searching.

Can you ponder this for me: On Day One, we fly into CDG arrving at 9 am. We bought the included transfer, so I guess we will arrive into glorious Le Pecq at around noon. Cabins are not available until 3. Soooo..what do we do with ourselves? How long will check in take? I don't want to be stuck in dreary Le Pecq for the night, but if we turn around & go back to Paris it will take us 45 mins to an hour each way. Obviously, we were supposed to step off and wander about Paris, but that ain't happening now. Thoughts? I don't want to waste the whole first day in vans and napping.

  9. Sharing this information would be helpful to other Viking passengers sailing out of Paris. Please do not keep the shuttle info a secret ;)

The mystery is one of the prior posters like their answers and the other didn't. This is bound to creat confusion with readers here on CC.

The answer I received which is posted further up on this thread. Is Viking will run one possibly two shuttles (11:30 a, 2:30 p) into Paris. And one return at 5:30 pm from Paris. They are docked so far outside Paris that they are beyond the metro system, you have to walk 19 minutes, then board a metro car (20 minutess I think) to get to Paris. Not so good for passengers with mobility issues me thinks. They absolutley knew this when they booked you and failed to mention it up front. I DO think I will get in touch with the nice young man who booked me and give him an earful. I have extensive background in group travel and shizz happens; it is part of the business. BUT you inform the passengers, you compensate them, and you make it right. NOT sending this!

  10. What is stunning is the number of people who cannot say anything constructive about Viking with little personal experience. The cruises are great, so staff in CA "not so".

Well, so far this has been my ONLY personal experience with Viking and I feel cheated and duped. Moving our dock to the remote outskirts of Paris that is not even reached by the train system, then being told by customer service that the shuttles operated every 15 minutes. Only to discover by a knowledgeable Viking employee that they actually only operate shuttles once or twice a day is not what I look for in a travel partner. They certainly knew this major change when we booked in January and did not mention it. I worked in wholesale travel

for quite a while; passengers should at least be getting compensation in the form of cash back, or a voucher to use on board. It is not even remotely acceptable to not mention this major change during booking. We would simply have booked another cruise line that docks in PARIS, under the Eiffel tower as advertised.

  11. Villagirl- Credible answers?

How about writing directly to the ship. Please don't be surprised if they write back fast with accurate info of what will be provided-

    viking.rinda@vikingrivercruises.com

We are sailing on the Kadlin...I will email

viking.kadlin.vikingrivercruises.com to see if that works. I do want a reliable answer to this. Trying not to be sad about not waking up in Paris and looking up at the Tour Eiffel. Instead juggling stupid train schedules and schlepping around.

  12. Is there anyway to obtain actual credible answers from Viking re shuttle schedule in advance? We had wanted to book some tours in Paris and I am concerned about making the departure times. Don't really want to walk 19 mins and then take the RER. I emailed the original person we booked the tour from and have heard nary a peep. Not sure what to do if the cust svc reps are misinformed. Thoughts?

  13. Yes, I hear you on your distrust of Viking at this point. I asked the rep to repeat

it several times. Perhaps some others more knowlegable about Paris and cruising could call Viking and ask more detailed questions about the shuttles from Le Pecq to ??. She also said the shuttles could drop you where ever you wanted to go. Sounds fishy?

  14. I called Viking re: their shuttles from Le Pecq to Place de la Concorde. Their rep stated that they will have shuttle vans leaving every 15 mins. In which case, why do you recommend using the RER (?). I am a newbie to Paris so am trying to figure all this out before our trip on the Viking Kadlin in June. 2016. Thoughts?
