  1. I think we are over thinking the dress code.  From Celebrity webpage-

    Most nights Smart Casual attire

    Women should feel comfortable wearing:

    • Skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top

    Men should feel comfortable wearing:

    • Pants or jeans with a short sleeve sport shirt.

    Evening Chic nights.

    Women should feel comfortable wearing:

    • A cocktail dress
    • Skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top

    Men should feel comfortable wearing:

    • Pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater
    • Optional sport coat or blazer

Jeans for most nights, but Designer Jeans for Chic nights  😀😀

  2. Celebrity is leading the way to getting cruising started again. They were cursing out of St Martin in early June and out of Ft Lauderdale in early July. Being first has lead to a lot of confusion has to what the CDC and Florida required for the cruise line to operate with paying passengers. As was noted passengers could not check in until 1-2 weeks prior to sailing. Things are getting better. When Jamie could checkin about a week ago, it also opened up my 8/15/21 Equinox sailing (30+ days prior to sailing). Pre-covid checkin was usually about 90 days prior to sailing.

I think NCL's first cruise from a US port is sometime in September. There will probably be some confusion as they ramp up their cruising schedule.

On other Celebrity cruise critic threads there have been comments/complaints about he My Planner app on a phone and on desktops. I think these problems will get worked out as they get back up to speed.

  3. We are on Oasis the week before you. Two separate comedy shows are listed on the cruise planner (different venues, different nights) and I was able to book both.

Make sure the show you selected in the Opal Theater does not conflict with another show in the Opal Theater. I was on an RCCL cruise 2 years ago where there were conflicts in the cruise planner. RCCL did not figure it out until we were onboard. There solution was to reschedule one of the conflicted shows for me. Unfortunately they picked a time that conflicted with another show I had selected, so I had to reschedule that show also. The bad news about the second reschedule was that all the "good" times were full. What a mess.

  4. The Cruise Planner for my 7/15/18 Oasis cruise offers Stand Up Comedy in Comedy Live AND the Opal Theater. The time slots are basically the same (9PM and 1030PM) on 5 of the 7 nights. There is not much of a description about the shows except that the Opal Theater show is 45 min and Comedy Live show is 1 hr.

My biggest concern is that 9 of the 13 Opal Theater shows conflict with the regular show (i.e. Cats, etc).

Can anyone shed any light on the Stand Up Comedy shows on the Oasis?

  5. When I look more closely it gets more confusing. The comedy acts scheduled for the Opal Theater have numerous conflicts with Cats, Headliner, and Come Fly with Me. By my count only 4 of the 13 shows scheduled for the Opal Theater could occur without conflict.

I've seen this before where RC duplicates a schedule without checking for conflicts. When you get onboard they will tell you that you will be rescheduled, but that caused more problems when the reschedule conflicted with something else I had already reserved.

At this time I would suggest not scheduling any Comedy show in the main theater because of potential conflicts.

  6. I'm sailing on the Oasis on July 15th. I have the same question as OP. The answers so far are historically correct, BUT now the Oasis has Stand Up Comedy in Comedy Live (1 hr show) AND Stand Up Comedy in Opal theater (45 min show) . There are 13 shows in each venue during the cruise. I can understand that Comedy Live was a very small venue, so many people could not get in. 13 shows in the Opal Theater is overkill in the other direction.

I also could not reserve seats for anyone under the age of 18.

I called RCCL support and got a person who seemed to be looking at the same web pages I could see. She put me on hold to supposedly talk to other support people, but they had no further information.

Hopefully others on Cruise Critic will have better luck determining what type of comedy will be held in each venue.

  7. 11908 was a great cabin (suite). We opened it up for a "cabin crawl" and I have a picture of at least 30 CC members out on the balcony. We could have easily had 30 more. The balcony was fantastic. The suite itself was probably the nicest in that price range that I have ever seen.. As for setting up an air matress next to the sofa bed or in the dining area, I think either could be done during sleeping hours. Not knowing when and were your are sailing to, if the weather is decent, how about sleeping on the balcony. There is plenty of room and two lounge chairs. It might be an adventure for teen agers.

Having a butler was also nice.We had some lunches and afternoon snacks out on the balcony. The butler was great setting up or food. When we sailed, NCL had a fireworks show one evening. I don't know if they still do it, but the port-aft balcony was a great spot for watching them.

The only negative I saw was that the S6's were in the aft of the ship and all the Haven facilities were far forward. With that said you can probably walk anywhere on the ship in 5-6 minutes. It may not be what you want to do in a wet bathing suit. Remember, you are on a cruise and have lots of time.

Hope this helps and have a great cruise.

  8. Your best deal is the sleep cruise through Trinityreservations.com for $173 tax included.

Other more expensive options are Country Inns and Embassy Suites where you can buy port transportation as an add on.

I like the Robert Treat, but it is more suitable for folks who want good access to Manhattan or who want to take PATH/ light rail/cab to Cape Liberty.

Thanks for your reply. I'll check them out.

  9. How many people are you? What is your hotel budget? What time do you arrive at EWR and what are your food requirements? What are your bed requirements (double, queen, king)? What time is your return flight at the end of the cruise? Any possibility of sightseeing in NYC?

Please answer these questions as they significantly affect the choice of hotel.

Our son works for an airline so we fly standby. Arrival probably sometime in the afternoon. Departure will be the first flight we can get on after we return from the cruise.

Food requirements are minor. We are going on a cruise and eating way too much.

Bed- queen or king is fine

Not planning on any NYC sightseeing.

  10. We are taking a cruise out of Cape Liberty on September 24, 2017. We will be flying into EWR on the 23rd. Looking for information about a convenient hotel and transportation from airport to the hotel and the hotel to the ship.

I have seen the Robert Treat BWP mentioned a few times. Do you have any other recommendations/suggestions?

  11.

There is a vast central whirlpool that would accommodate, at a guess, in excess of 30 people.

    solariumpoolfullon_zps5bae276d.jpg

In addition there are another two very large whirlpools, by normal standards, within the Solarium.

I will be traveling on the Oasis in late August and lbipooh suggested I take a look at this review. I'm glad she did. It was very informative with great pictures. I had sailed on the Allure in 2012 and this reminded me of the good times I had on that cruise, but also showed me that I had missed a lot of things to see on this megaship.

I would like to make a couple of comments about the solarium. First traveling in the summer, the solarium is very hot and I could not walk on the deck barefoot (like walking on hot pavement). Second the sign next to the primary pool listed a ridiculous capacity (from foggy memory 32+). It seemed very crowded with about 20 and all you could do was stand around. The other whirlpools were much more enjoyable.

Thanks for the great review. ~120,000 views shows how well it was received.

  12. I just seen about the "trolley tours." What are these tours about, and what is the cost per person?

I was thinking of getting a "native" to take us around, but perhaps the trolley tours might be just as good.

This was our first time to Falmouth and we wanted to see what the real Falmouth was like. After reviewing numerous threads about Falmouth, the Heritage Walking Tour (ship's tour, $29/person) seemed like it would give us that up close and personal look of the town that we were looking for.

We met our guide and her assistant inside the “RCCL compound” where she gave us a brief overview of the tour. We (12 on our tour) then headed out into the town on a 2+ mile walk that lasted about 2 hours (a leisurely pace). Our guide provided us with lots of information about what we were seeing along the way. She mainly talked about the major buildings, churches, schools, etc. and their historical importance. Our last stop was at the home of an American from San Francisco who had moved to Jamaica ~15 years ago. She gave us some current day insight as to what it is like living in Falmouth today.

The tour obviously highlights the good parts of Falmouth, but it was a walking tour, so it was quite easy to see the not so prosperous parts of town. We were very glad we took the tour and felt very safe with guide and her assistant making sure we stayed together and safely got across intersections by holding up a stop sign to halt traffic. We didn’t see a stop signal or sign in town.

If you want to get out of the “RCCL compound” and see Falmouth, this is the way to go. Below some of the nicer sights.

  13. look on tripadvisor.com

for things to do at Falmouth

We are staying on land - 6th time - but will do the

Martha Brae hour long raft down lazy river in the jungle!

We did the Martha Brae a few years ago and it was fun. The worst part was the 45-60 minute drive from Ochos Rios. From Falmouth it would be a very short drive.

  14. We took the Heritage Walking Tour (ship's excursion $29 pp) to see the real Falmouth. It was about a 2 mi walk in 2 hours (~1030-1230). The guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. She had an assistant that brought up the rear and seemed to keep the locals away. The guide was a little hard to hear sometimes due to traffic noise. I'm glad I took the tour for the up close look at Falmouth.

  15. I found 2 companys that say they do the trolley tour. One company don't even list prices and does not respond so I believe they are out of business. Then there is another one listed with the same pictures, and they responded saying they do no do them any more. So I think I am out of luck, and need to come up with plan B. Probably have to just walk around and explore Falmouth on our own.

I'm going to try the Heritage Walking Tour in February.

There is also a thread about a self-guided walking in Falmouth. Supposedly you can get a map inside the port gates.

  16. We did this tour in December. Our tour guide Krystal is a local and is pretty knowledgeable of the town and its history. We are very glad we took this tour rather than spending the day wondering around the tourists shops in the port.

Just the feedback I was looking for, thanks.

  17. This was a ship's tour in 2012, but dropped in 2013. I have emailed the tour operator and they have been very responsive and said that they have negotiated with RCCL to provide tours starting February 1st 2014. Unfortunately shore.com (RCCL's shore excursion group) is not aware of it or waiting for Feb 1st before acknowledging the addition.

I want to see the real Falmouth and this seems like a good way to do it. Does anyone have any experience with this tour?

  18. Michele,

DH and I just booked 11308 on the Getaway for our anniversary cruise thanks to your great review and fabulous pictures!! (Loved the shoes as well :))

I really wanted an S6 with balcony access from the MBR and you certainly cleared up any confusion!

    Thanks again!

We were in 11308 for the Oct 6th 2013 cruise. It was a great cabin and the view of the fireworks was perfect. The S6 was the best part of the Breakaway cruise.

  19. I just got back from a cruise in 11308 (S6 port). The cabin was great. The layout seemed very logical to me. If we were traveling with kids, having alternate access to the balcony seems like a big plus.

The bath and shower in config B were pretty, but how much time do you spend in the bath room. I'm a big guy and the shower in config A was fine.

I have to laugh when I hear about the discussion of the balcony size. I think they are all in the 240-300 sq ft range. Ours was about 260 sq ft. We had 10 plus people on the balcony during the Bermuda sailaway and could have handled 10-20 more with ease. The balconies are huge.:D

  20. Sailed on the 10/6. None of the pre cruise concierge requests were taken care of. Someone dropped the ball. Once on board everything was quickly taken care of.

Ruth and her assistant Elvina were very good. They were able to make reservations throughout the cruise for us.

The S6 cabin was the highlight of the cruise for me. Too bad it is so far from the Haven.

  21. Almost a year ago a couple we cruise with decided they wanted to go to Bermuda for their 45th anniversary on the new NCL Breakaway. Living in Florida and traveling to NYC to take a cruise seems silly, but it was a new ship. To ease the pain my wife decided we should book a suite and I agreed. (about 20% of the time we splurge for a suite.) With no information she picked 11308 (the port side S6).

I kept following CC as the ship was being built and the S6 was looking better and better. There were a lot of pictures about the S6s on decks 9 and 12 with the window in the bathroom. I probably would have survived with the window in the bathroom, but after seeing Michelle's pictures of 11908, I think we lucked out picking 11308. I may never leave the cabin [:)] .

    Thanks for the great pictures.
