  1. These are great ideas!

I have an entire emergency box I take on every cruise. It contains OTC meds for any thing that could ail you along with minor first aid items, sewing kit, safety pins, dental floss, downy wrinkle releaser, stain remover wipes, etc. The family knows about this and will be able to come to me if they need anything like that.

I like some of these other ideas and the dollar store is a great idea as well. Thanks!!

I recently put together goodie bags for my daughters wedding. I went to Pinterest and got great ideas so I’d suggest you might want to check it out for lists for cruise ship goodie bags.

  2. There are walking/food tours at some of the destination ports that you could check out. I did one in Cozumel I believe called Salsa and Salsa that our whole group loved. We made several different salsas, tasted lots of food, and had a salsa dance lesson. Another was in Costa Maya where we toured Mayan ruins then had a cooking class and luncheon in a Mayan family home.

  3. Can you use the obc in the casino to play without getting the cash. Just use your card in the slots?

You can use your card in the machine but have to transfer money from your account to the machine so will be charged the 3% I think. You can check on board to be sure and also policies are always changing and might be different than when I sailed in Dec.

  4. Going on our first NCL cruise in a couple weeks and we have pre-bought some OBC credit from their website. It says the OBC will be in certificate form and I requested "delivery" of our boarding day. Exactly how are those redeemed? We're used to Princess where you take them to the casino and they give you cash. Not sure if NCL works the same way. Thanks for the help.

My experience has been that the OBC was added to my account and the certificate in my room just informed me of that. It was used for any charges to my room account - spa, Food Republic, etc.

If you take cash from the casino there is a 3% fee I believe. So if you go to the casino cashier and ask for $300 you will have a $309 charge on your account and your OBC will be applied to that. You dont need to use the cash in the casino it's just where you have to get it to have it charged to your account. If you take cash from a ship ATM your OBC wouldn't be applied to that

I like to purchase OBC throughout the year (i book a year in advance), use the OBC against the charges to my room when I sail, and then when I receive my final bill it will be lower than it would be without the pre purchased OBC. There is a limit to OBC you can purchase which was $1000 when I sailed Dec 2016.

  5. Mello - you may want to search the threads. I recall there has been much discussion on the topic of Haven tipping. We tipped the butler $100 for two of us for 7 days

Edit: at the end of the cruise

The butlers do prefer you to call them direct. We carry the room phone with us and arrange what we'd like delivered so the food is in our room when we get back. One additional benefit I found out about on our last cruise Dec 2016 Escape is that you can ask your butler to deliver food from Osheeans (the only way you can get that delivered to your room I think). There is a special night butler so we didn't feel badly calling late at night. We tipped the night butler each time as that person was different most nights. Our main butler we tipped at the end as well as all of the others who made our cruise wonderful, including chefs who prepared special meals for me (vegan).

  6. I was on the Escape in Dec 2016 and the vegan options prepared for me were amazing. I met with the sous chefs at the restaurants I wanted to eat at (the day before) and they always made sure to have something wonderful when I came for dinner or lunch. And I agree with the previous poster that attending the Meet and Greet is a good idea as you will have the opportunity for direct contact with the various department heads.

  7. I have cruised a few times (4 total), but this is the first time my husband and I will be cruising with our son on the Norwegian Breakaway. He will be 20 months old at the time of the cruise. We have really enjoyed the main dinning rooms on our past cruises, but I know you are not in and out of the main dining room quickly. I am hoping my 20 month old can sit through a few dinners (fingers crossed), but I am not too optimistic that he will be able to do a 2hr dinner, nor do I want to ruin other people's dinner. Can you order take out from the main dinning room to take back to your room or elsewhere? Of course, I have never thought to ask this before because I never had a 20 month old running around to think about. I am thinking the answer is no, but tried to do a search and couldn't find anything...

We traveled with 16 month old twins last December and employed many of the strategies already mentioned. In addition, at several MDR dinners one parent would be seated and order (incl dinners for the second parent and twins) and the second parent and twins would join a little later once dinner was on the table (we used iconcierge to communicate).

  8. Traveling on Escape in Dec with 1 year old twins. Any photos of OV Family cabin deck 5, guppies play area, water park, etc would be so appreciated. Also any ideas as to excursions (when Escape sails Eastern Caribbean) and activities for this age group on the ship would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Are there still any cruises or cruise groups for people who want to lose a few pounds? I know that there are lots of fitness themes and I enjoy the exercise opportunities. It's the diet that is a problem. I don't think that I can trust myself around all the temptations. There used to be some programs a few years ago, but I have been looking and can't find any now.

Maybe if I had a group I was going with, but on my own I know I can't resist for seven whole days. I need some kind of separate dining. Or a group to travel with that can keep each other accountable.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Some ideas: You might check the roll calls for the cruises you are considering and see if you can find a partner(s) to plan and meet for meals. Alternatively, although more expensive, would be to connect via internet with your support at home to discuss each day's meal plans. I follow a plant based diet and received a lot of assistance from the dining room supervisor in planning my meals on the Getaway.

  10. I'm a DEEP shade person and had no problem being under trees at Brewers Bay. :)

We rented chairs but had no need to check on umbrella rentals.

    It's so beautiful there. :)

Our family will be on a cruise with two infants and prefer not to take taxis as no car seats. Does anyone know if there are any beaches in Tortola we can walk to (up to about 1/2 mile or so)

    Thanks

  11. One idea may be to ask your butler to bring to the cabin every day your teens' favorite food. After a day off on an excursion it's always nice to come back to the cabin and have their special treat waiting.
