  1. I also did a dispute with AmEx. I waited and filed through NCL for refund and received confirmation. However a couple weeks later they applied a FCC to my account which wasn’t what I asked for. AMEX also credited me amount paid in less then a week. If NCL bans me so be it. Platinum plus they loose not me.

  2. No one really knows yet SA.     Until it actually happens.   The cruise line could change there minds on their refund policy at any time.

Good point. We are in St Thomas, 20 minute flight to Puerto Rico. Lots of concern here with all ships coming in still. Our hospital is not even rebuilt from Irma Maria in 2017. We are not equipped to deal with an outbreak. Nor are the other small Caribbean islands. Not worried about the virus for us but I don’t want to end up in quarantine or unknowingly bring something back.

  3. The grandeur could change itineraries and just sail out of port liberty.

But in places where there is no close options and if port is closed wouldn’t this be grounds for a refund?
We are cancelling and will wait to see how it plays out but would rather get a refund then fcc. My question is if port closed wouldn’t the cruise line be obligated to refund?

  4. So you would prefer they release captive bred dolphins to die in the wild because they don't have the necessary immunities, etc? There's a big difference between re-releasing a caught one (which I wholly support AND I object to the capture of wild dolphins for display - only capitve bred and rehabs who cannot return to the wild should ever be in an aquarium facility - or any animal that matter which some minor exceptions for genetic diversity in breeding heavily threatened or functionally extinct species) and one who has never been in the wild. And I say this being someone who volunteers and works with a zoo, so I have a pretty good understanding of a complex issue.

I'm not saying its a great solution, just best of several bad ones at this point, and if done well at least has a more minimal impact.

Also, your article is an opinion piece and doesn't reference STT at all in terms of opinion..

What I am saying is there should not be captive breeding at all.

Go on what’s up St Thomas FB and search dolphins. You will see this is not supported with most residents here.

  5. Given the use captive bred animals that cannot be released into the wild and use them in a conservation message, I have no issues with it as long as they have proper space and care - the Dolphin facility they are building will be an open water facility with a dedicated medical area that can also be used to treat stranded or injured dolphins in the area.

There is a distinct difference between responsible care organizations and ones that mistreat animals for entertainment. From what I saw, Coral World is the former.

Sadly that is not accurate and most STT residents do not support this

  6. When you choose to cruise at peak of hurricane season you take the risk. We where on Breakaway Sept 17 sail. Yes rough seas going down but nothing that horrible. I personally sleep like a baby when we are rocking and rolling.

People always have to find something to complain about. We did leave early Jose in front Marie behind. How many people can ever say they sailed in between 2 hurricanes. Life is an adventure embrace it. So many people lost everything in these hurricanes be thankful for what you did have on the cruise and what you in your everyday life. So many have nothing.

  7. Hurricane Irma

    Update #5

    September 9, 2017 12:30 PM

Norwegian Cruise Line is continuing to closely watch the forecasted path of major Hurricane Irma and respond as necessary to ensure the safety of our guests and crew. We have cancelled this week’s scheduled sailings aboard our two ships that depart from Miami, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Escape and both ships are currently navigating a safe course around the path of Hurricane Irma. Norwegian Escape is sailing at full capacity with approximately 4,000 displaced guests from both ships that were unable to secure flights back home. The ship is currently alongside in Cozumel, Mexico and will remain there until 7 a.m. Sunday, September 10. Guests who have secured flights home may disembark the ship in Mexico if they wish. Due to the devastation in the Caribbean caused by Hurricane Irma, all of Norwegian Escape’s upcoming Eastern Caribbean sailings will be altered to a Western Caribbean itinerary until November. All guests scheduled to sail on any affected cruises will be notified of the change.

Acting as a responsible corporate citizen and supporting the destinations that our ships operate in is a core value of Norwegian Cruise Line. In the wake of this devastating storm, we will be deploying Norwegian Sky from her current position off the coast of Cancun to St. Thomas, USVI to retrieve approximately 2,000 travelers who were unable to evacuate the island prior to the storm. The ship is departing immediately and will arrive in St. Thomas in the late evening hours on Monday, September 11. Norwegian Cruise Line is working closely with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association and the Governor of St. Thomas to execute this rescue mission. When all designated vacation guests have boarded the ship, Norwegian Sky will sail back to her homeport of Miami and is expected to arrive on Thursday, September 14.

  8. I have never seen the "hold" impact available credit. Then again, we carry multiple cards with us with plenty of limit on each and never carry a balance other than what is due this month.

Let's say you have a 10k limit on a card and Ncl puts a 5k hold. This would then only allow you to make purchases up to 5k until the pending hold is released. I have been on 21 cruises and only once did I use citi and even after final bill posted and was paid by me the hold was still there. I had to call Ncl and request them to call citi to release it or it would stay as a hold up to 45 days is what citi told me.

I personally will never use citi again with a cruise. I should not have to waste my time calling to get a hold released. Am ex never did that in 20 cruises. Once final bill post holds are released.

  9. Is your credit card charged up to the limit where this matters?

No it was no where near the limit but I make a lot or purchases so I can get miles and pay off every month. I never carry a balance however the hold did effect available credit until they released it which took calls to ncl telling them to call citi to release hold.

  10. And not a place where you can park your car. There are dozens of really nice expensive hotels in Manhattan. Not one of then is appropriate for someone driving into NY and looking for a place to park their car during their cruise.

They said they where considering parking at pier. This is in walking distance. Geeze

  11. I think summer sailings are more packed with kids being on vacation from school. I always book when school is back. Way less crowding. We will be back on Breakaway in Sept. also in suite and that helps. Anyone cruising in summer months should expect crowds.

  12. The Cabin is in their Country.

Bermuda has brought dogs onto the ships for years to find contraband .

True I guess I just never saw or heard of this happening and I have been on 20 cruises and once before to Burmuda unless there was a specific reason for authorities to board ship.

Don't worry I am not planning on smuggling anything anyway but I find it interesting. Do they actually go in each cabin with the dogs?
