  1. Was not from the Princess site.....

How are these policies affecting e-cigarette users?

    Depends on the cruise line.

Some are lumping e-cigarette users in with regular smokers and asking them to only use their devices in designated areas while others clearly distinguish between the two and allow e-cigarettes in staterooms and around the ship.

On Princess, guests are allowed to use their e-cigarette in their staterooms since they leave no odor and have no known second-hand effects. However, their use is restricted in dining halls and theaters.

  2. It's not that smoking the e cigarettes will cause a problem it's just that seeing the smoke will encourage regular smokers to light up also.

I have enough trouble trying to keep my self in line, can't control what others do. Doubt they will even see it unless they are peaking through the crack at the top of the partition.

  3. As an ex-smoker, I have two comments.

    1. What the hell is an e-cigarette? :)

    2. I'm delighted with the new policy. Our last cruise, we were inundated with smoke on our balcony for the whole trip. It kinda sucked. (I can deal with it, my wife HATES it.)

I *am* concerned that the casino will be smokier. My wife won't even go in there unless it's a non-smoking evening. I can usually handle it, but if it gets worse... :P

Guess that was three comments. :)

E - Cigarettes are battery operated devices with a cartridge of nicotine, water and glycol and flavoring. Smokes like a cigarette an simulates smoke, but in reality it is water vapor and odorless. Do a google search it is an interesting subject. You may use them anyplace on the ship except dining room and show room. The water vapor also diapates very rapidly

  4. Seadeck2, the fewer places that are non-smoking means that the places that are will have even more smoke. For walkers and runners there is still plenty of deck without smokers. Every cruise will be different as to how many smokers are on board. If you are not happy with the current policy, you too can vote with your wallet and cruise on a different line. Don't forget smokers should be able to enjoy their vacation also.

Could not have said it better myself.

Help is on the way however, I read where 750,000 people in the US have switched to e-cigarettes. Time will tell on this one.

  5. Unfortunately the first time someone gets charged the smoking penalty, I can see them removing their gratuities to offset. It's a no win situation because of the "Me" mentality of today's society. There is only one 100% solution, which no cruiseline wants to go down.

The 100% solution did not work, been there done that. You are so correct if a room steward turns someone in there go the graturities. Personally I think Carnival got it right.

Time will tell and when it hits the bottom line I look for it to go unenforced. There is enough going on right now that is not helping the industry.
