  1. Hello Cruisers,

I have a boat lined up for 4 hours on May 12 from 2-6pm. Its 40” and we are a party of 5. Looking for another 5 people to share the cost with. It’s total is 600euro for a half day. Very inexpensive when split 10 ways! Captain seems very accommodating. Pier is a short walk to where the ship ports. Any interest let me know.

    Thanks,

    Robbin

  2. My husband and I have 2 days in Barcelona after our ship docks. We'll be coming off the Norwegian Epic on June 10th. We both love good food and want to experience the authentic recipes and foods as much as we can. We'll be staying Hotel Suizo in the Gothic Quarter. I know there's a ton of restaurants there, but does anyone have recommendations for restaurants or specific dishes that we have to try before we leave the country? Of course we'll ask our hotel front desk/concierge, but I like to gather intel from other people that have traveled.

I live in a very small town in rural Minnesota so authentic, ethnic food is not something I get often and I want to experience as much of it as I can, while I can! :D

We stayed in Gothic Quarter on our last visit to Barcelona there is a really nice restaurant call Neyras try the eggplant tapas and the Black Paella and the fried green peppers. We still talk about the food there and on our return to Barcelona we’re planning and going out of our way to visit again. Enjoy

  3. Will be in Barcelona in September, suggestions on where you can find quality products like ladies shoes and handbags at a reasonable price would be appreciated. I'm sure there are stores out there that only locals/insiders know about with items that are of great value for the money. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

I agree with shops and stores near Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas. Very important to remember since we do not live in the EU we are Duty Free so make sure you take you passport with you and ask for you duty free form. On the form it should say what company is processing it’s usually Global Blue and they have a few offices and even if you pay with your CC they will give you back cash. NOTE: you are only allowed $500 cash back per day per person so keep track of you tax return. You will have to get the duty free form stamped at you last place of departure once you leave the EU even if its another country. Then once stamped there are mail slots where you deposit them. Sounds more complicated than it really is.

I took advantage and purchased my LV bag and was $1000 cheaper than here in US. I also purchased shoes and more shoes all were really nice soft leather and love them all, plus they were all duty free. Hope this helps send me email if anyone needs more info: titicaa8396@yahoo.com

  4. Hi New Cruiser51912,

We spent 8 days in Barcelona post cruise and it is an amazing place to visit. We did a bunch of things it all depends on what you like. Send me an email (titicaa8396@yahoo.com) so I can forward you what I used to plan my days.

We did Flamingo show and dinner which was amazing. We were also located at the Gothic Quarter across from the Cathedral of Barcelona, great square with restaurants and people playing music and singing in the alleys. We also did a tour 3 country’s (Spain,France,Andorra) in one day and visited the Pyrenees Mountains. We did Monserrat and Wineries. You also have the Sagrada Familia by Gaudi. I can go on and on. You must visit Las Ramblas and near there is La Boqueria. If you need shoes or Designer hand bags take advantage we have duty free everything. There is Global Blue where you request the form from the retailer and they give you the form filled out must show your passport to prove that you are not part of the EU countries, you get all you taxes back.

Hope my ramblings help, have fun. We’ll be in Barcelona again this fall that’s how much we loved it.

  5. Hi guys you can take public transportation just outside the AC port. $5 pp Javilla Tours is the name of the public buses and they are safe. You can use them for the cable cars as well and to go to Santiago the next largest city in the country. when I was there we used then.

You can do La Aurora on your own just do your homework. You can take public transportation and the once in Santiago that is the 2nd largest city of the country you can take a cab or public transportation as well. Have fun planning it always gets me excited for my vacations

  7. We were in AC during 12/15 we loved it there we took a taxi to Sosua about 35-40 minutes drive, self hubby kids (19,16). We asked our taxi to show us the town for a few extra bucks and he was nice enough to do it. Beach is beautiful !!!!! Sosua is a beach town we walked around did some shopping. Restaurants both in town and on the beach were good. We visited the supermarket my daughter wanted to buy a few things that she was able to purchase at a cheaper price than the tourist shops.

All and all we really loved our time there. When took our ride through town very colonial and beautiful. We look forward to our next visit to AC the city of Puerto Plata is beautiful. The people were all very polite and friendly. Hope this helps you guys. I'll be glad to help with any questions. Our taxi dropped us off in the center of town we took public transportation back to the ship. If you just need to grab a ride to and from town you can do this at a much cheaper price. Just grab a pubic bus Named: JAVILLA TOURS and it will drop you off at the entrance of the AC Port and at their bus stop in Town for $5 pp.

  8. Hi Guys....

I agree this is a GREAT THREAD it's so helpful. DH and I will be in Rome next 10/07 and we'll have a 2 day stay in Rome. I'm thinking of staying in Rome for a night instead of going back to the ship, just to go back into Rome. I feel we'll waiste alot of time on going back and forth.

Ehogan.. I was looking at the Through Eternity website and I might try to book my walking tours with them and still have alot of time on our own. Can you tell me if you liked your tours? What was your favorite? Did you receive the service you expected? As for cost, the tours themselves are cheaper than if I were to do a ship tour. The only extra $ is the 1 night hotel stay.

Has anyone done this before on a 2 day visit to a port? I feel that by doing Rome with a 1 night stay I'll get to see more.

I will probably have to let the guest relations desk know that we won't be returning to the ship until the next day. If anyone has any information please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Liz
