1. In the UK you can buy plug in night lights for children. We leave one in our suitcase in case its needed, although we find lots of hotels we have stayed at do have a 'night' light in the bathroom.

I have found the issue with plug-in night lights is that many/most cruise bathrooms do not have a plug for them. The only plug is for a shaver and as the previous poster mentioned, it is usually only powered when the overhead light is on. Also, they are labeled "FOR SHAVERS ONLY" and I've always been concerned about creating a fire risk.

  2. I was recently on a cruise on Celebrity where there was a nightlight built-in around the bathroom mirror. We found this to be extremely convenient, and the first time we have had a cabin with a nightlight. The option in the past was to leave the overhead light in the bathroom on so a small amount of light would show under the closed bathroom door and provide guidance in what can sometimes be very dark cabins.

Does anyone know if the cabins on QM2 have nightlights in the bathroom? We are in a Q6 cabin - if that makes a difference.

I am considering bringing a battery-operated light to use as a nightlight. Anyone have other suggestions?

Prior to the Celebrity cruise mentioned above, we stayed at a Red Carnation hotel in London, and it too had a built-in nightlight in the bathroom - a small blue light mounted directly over the toilet that put out just enough light to allow one to navigate without stumping toes or stumbling over unfamiliar furniture layout.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks, Not a Georgia Peach. I have no doubt Viking will do an excellent job with the transfers. Just my OCD making curious how it will be handled! I think we are going to plan a foodie tour in Amsterdam the day of the transfer. We've been to Amsterdam several times and done most of the usual tourist stuff.

  4. We are booked on the river/ocean cruise from Basel/Amsterdam and then Amsterdam/Barcelona in September/October this year. We are new to Viking and I am curious how Viking handles the transfer in Amsterdam. I have searched the threads, but I haven't found any threads related to a river/ocean itinerary.

The Viking website only has two river/ocean itineraries. Is this something new Viking is trying? We are pretty excited for our first Viking experience we will get to do both the river and ocean boat/ship. We have done both river and ocean cruises previously, just never on Viking.

  5. Hi Paul,

Always enjoy your posts - these are no exception. We were on the Transatlantic in a Royal Suite and enjoyed every minute. Nenad and his waiters, Davut, Victor and Tony took great care of us for the 15 days. Victor, the sommelier was great too. We ate almost every meal in Luminae - your pictures are making me miss it even more!

Please tell Nenad "Miss Fancy Pants" sends her regards . . . . as do, Mike and Bob!

Enjoy your cruise. I look forward to your future posts.

  6. I did call Celebrity and was told if the people in the concierge cabin are children they would be permitted to go to Michael's and Luminae. In my case, we are traveling with very good friends - adults. I was told they would not receive the suite perks. I was tempted to hang up and call back because we all know we get different answers from different reps. The concern there is whether it would actually happen once on the ship just because rep ABC told me on the phone on a given day.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I will write a letter because it seems to be a reasonable request and something that should be easy for Celebrity to implement. I see it as an opportunity to garner loyalty to the brand.

  7. I would love to book a royal suite and the connecting concierge on the Infinity for South America in 2018 to make a two-bedroom suite. But when Celebrity is so inflexible with their "rules" regarding suite amenities, why would I book the royal suite when my traveling companions - that would have access to the royal suite through the connecting door - won't have access to Michael's and Luminae? I would think if those two cabins were booked at the same time on the same booking, some consideration could be made.

The only option is to book the penthouse and the connecting sky suite so that all four people have suite amenities. It is VERY difficult to get the penthouse and the connecting sky suite on the same cruise. I think it would be a great idea to hold the connecting sky suite until the penthouse is booked to give the penthouse occupants the opportunity to book it if they want a two-bedroom suite. Same goes for the royal suite and connecting concierge.

Just another reason to look at other cruise lines. IMHO, a missed opportunity for Celebrity.

  8. So BEAV . . . .between Oct 15th and Nov 13th - you will be on a ship 26 nights - 3 different ships - 3 different ports of embarkation - 2 countries of embarkation

I say this truly makes you the CRUISE DIVA that we all knew you are . . . . or is it CRUISE DOWAGER EMPRESS . . . .after all, we aren't as young as we used to be!!!!!

  9. Well put Andrew - I think I'll be virtuous this weekend also - as the infamous Dorothy Parker put it:

    I'll have a martini

    Two at the most

    Three I'm under the table

    Four I'm under the host!

BEAV and Gary presented us with some great plates and coasters with that little "toast" on it - unbeknownst to them that my other half uses the quote quite often!!!!

  10. Blazerboy - I have to tell you about a guy we met on the Summit cruise a few years back - nice guy and his wife from Tampa - originally from Nova Scotia . . . during cocktails one night in the maritni bar wife Paula made the comment that her husband brought more shoes than she did - of course that prompted the question "how many pairs" - I think it was 14 . . . one of the guys immediately turned to group and said "give him his queer card" - he was a very good sport - major metrosexual . . . that man could spot a Tommy Bahama shirt or slacks at 500ft!!!!

  11. Yes - I am in Marlboro Country - that's Mass - and it's actually spelled Marlborough - so I don't know what that does to the chances of meeting the Marlboro Man . . . .

Blazerboy - sorry you aren't here - I'd hop out to P'town just so we could cocktail . . . but trust me, I'm not staying an extra few weeks just for cocktails - that will have to wait for the next time I get an invitation to the WC - or I'm in SF and you boys can leave the 'burbs for a day of civility in the City

  12. Hi Guys,

first day back to work today and it's been hell, let me tell you. Didn't get home until midnite Saturday nite and was still on "left coast" time so stayed up and watched the American Idol final show (TIVO) . . . finally made it to bed around 1ish - VanCleef and Arpel had us up at 6am - they were too excited to sleep - so yesterday (Sunday) is somewhat of a blurrrrrr - I'm sure it had NOTHING to do with all those maritinis BEAV made me drink while on the Crystal Harmony.

We had a great time meeting our future cruise partners on the Nautica - Patrick and Steve . . . then it was off to "The WC" for my virgin experience - more drinking - BEAV has a very bad influence on people in this area - be warned!!!! Monday we joined the Crystal Harmony and got to meet John and Bob - had the picture perfect sailaway from SF - I bought the picture as proof, if anyone is interested!

I can't believe BEAV hasn't posted anything to this thread since our return!!!!! . . . he's slipping . . . . . or drying out!!!!! Blazerboy - the Harmony is much much much better than I remember from my last sailing - and we missed David DeHavilland by one sailing - he joined the day we left!!!!

    Mike

  13. Blazerboy - it was suggested (and I'm sure you know who would have made the suggestion!) that I contact you re: apparel. Just exactly what would you suggest one wear to their virgin experience of The WC?

RE: Queen's English . . . you know those Brit's and other subjects (aka friends to the North) are about things like use of Z - or lack thereof . . . and their insistence of putting the letter u in every opportunity they get . . . . if you need tutoring I'm sure dam1050 can arrange an correspondence course!!! Enjoy the Queen - will you have time in London prior?

  14. Amazing how quiet this board gets when BEAV is on a ship and doesn't have access . . . I wonder if they bothered with laptop and internet access for just a 2 day repo???? wouldn't surprise me if we don't hear from our BEAV today!!!!

  15. The best Bette Davis line for me is from Jezebel . . .

she comes out of the house and walks up to her beau and sez "I'd love to kiss ya, but I just washed my hayyuh (that's hair with Bette doing her BEST southern accent - kinda like BEAV does after several cosmos sitting on a big deck)

  16. I was thinking it might be in the "Lose before you Cruise" section of the message boards (and I'm not talking about weight)

Perhaps we could make it up Beav, at the rate of "Young & Restless" with several authors e-mailing an episode each day to an ongoing thread ..... we certainly have lots of cast members to work with ...

    Dave

Good idea Dave . . . only wouldn't it be the HUNG & BREASTLESS? . . .or would it be the HUNG & BREATHLESS????
