We (50) started out on a Princess tour to Cape Breton Island from the port in Sydney NS on a tour bus.  The bus broke down about 15 miles from the port and we were stranded on the side of the road for 3+ hours when a new bus came to pick us up and return us to the ship.  They had to use a bus that was supposed to take a tour that afternoon which was canceled at the last minute.  When we returned to the ship they canceled the tour and gave us each $100 OBC along with apologies from a ship officer. Princess had chartered all the busses in the area.  The tour operator was profusely apologizing but no more busses to be had.  I had often wondered about pax left behind on ship tours and what happened.  It made me realize the benefit of using a ship tour versus a private one.  Interesting story.

We were with you on that broken bus.

  2. We have ported at Ocho Ries twice, both several years ago and did not feel safe.  I doubt it has changed for the better.  On one stop we were directly asked if we wanted to buy drugs.  Jamaica is off our travel list.

  3. This reminds me of a Disney cruise we took over 30 years ago when our children were 5 and 7.  When the food was served I automatically want to cut up their food as the waiter came over and told me to enjoy my food while he cut up our children’s food.

Long time cruiser, but first time on Princess.  We are booked in a Club Class Mini-Suite on the Royal Princess leaving SF on March 2.  I have watched some You Tube videos for San Francisco departures and see that embarkation can be quite busy.  According to the Princess web site we get “priority embarkation” as part of our Club Class fare.  How does this work at the Port of San Francisco, or is this just marketing “fluff”?  Thanks in advance!

We are elite on Princess, and we had a Club Class cabin, which means we should have had priority boarding on two accounts.  We boarded in San Francisco last June.  There was no priority on the security line.  Once past security we were given priority for check in which may have saved us five minutes at most.  Then they did have a priority seating area waiting for boarding to start, but it was not monitored, and anyone who felt like it sat in that area.  The really bad part was once boarding started they gave no priority to anyone.  They just opened the gate and it became a free for all.

Wonder if your bus was to take us on our tour to Highlands Village.  We were to meet at 12:50 and around 11:30 our tour was canceled due to operational reasons.

Yup that was the one!  At least we finally got back safely.  They told us they cancelled a tour so they had a bus to get us off the side of the road and back to the port.

  6. We were on a recent Ruby Alaska voyage.  We masked everywhere except while in our cabin and eating.  We never ate in the buffet.  We were in the minority wearing masks, I would guess less than 20% of the passengers wore one.  I tested positive three days after returning home.  I wish Princess would restore the mask mandate!

  7. We had booked an excursion in Victoria paying with non refundable credit.  We did pay for excursions in other ports.  I hope they reallocate the payments and give us the refund.  They changed the time of a booked excursion in Juneau to reflect the adjusted arrival time.  We are OK with the changes.

  8. We did this trip a number of years ago.  I recall Princess expects you to spend time in Talkeetna before continuing to the lodge.  They ran shuttle busses on a schedule for when you wanted to go to the lodge.  There was also a boat trip which optionally dropped you off at the lodge with a short shuttle ride at that end.  The train station is a block away from the center of town.
