NCL uses the new Horizon terminal. In September we stayed at the Premier Inn West Quay and it was fine for the night. Good price, very clean, nice on-site restaurant. Also across the street from the Mall, which has other food options and shopping for any last minute items. We were lucky in that the private driver that brought us from London to Southampton actually lives there and he insisted on coming back in the morning to take us to the port for free (wouldn't even take a tip).

Who was the private driver you used to bring you to Southampton?  Do you recall what that cost?

    Thanks for your response.

There's a funicular railway climbing up from the city to a viewpoint just right of center

    Norris,

Thanks for the beautiful pictures.  I am considering this 5.5 hour excursion for next June.  Overall, what did you think of the excursion?  How much time in Hardangerfjord?  Thanks for your input.

You asked for how to reach corporate....here it is.   I don't share these lightly, and you still may not get the satisfaction you want....but you may feel better about it.

    thank you for the info

Royal Caribbean really needs to step up.  I had an issue with Royal cancelling one of our cruise reservations.  My travel agent and I received terrible customer service from Royal but things got much better when I reached corporate but it should have never gotten that far.   I have a cruise in September with Royal but we will be booking with another cruise line after.  Yes-It is all about the dollar.

So how did you reach corporate?  I was on the same ship as the OP that got chartered.  I went on there website but I haven't heard back.  On their Facebook page, all I got was a sorry and hope you have a dream vacation on your next cruise.

Fair enough.  But rather than getting so mad, why not just agree to meet at some other place on the ship and take your glasses of wine with you?  With situations like this it seems the level of disappointment is largely determined by one's attitude.  If you are determined to focus on it and be mad about it, it can ruin your vacation.  If you are willing to shrug it off and go to plan B, you can still have a great time.

Good advice.  I'm sure we will have a great time.  At least I have another year to get over it.

OP:  is there some reason that you must have 12 cabins all in a row?  We cruise with a big group of friends every year and our cabins are all over the ship.  We always have a blast, despite not being right next door to each other.  I can understand mild disappointment, but can't imagine why you are so mad about it.

We open up the dividers and have one huge balcony to talk and drink wine.  It is the only reason we book 2 years in advance.

  7. We received notice today from our travel agent that RCCL regrettably cancelled our cruise on the Symphony of the Seas for Feb 1, 2020.  We booked 12 balcony cabins in a row back in January 2018 onboard the Oasis for this Feb 1 cruise.  The notice states that they have rented out the ship for a private party.  Our travel agent is working hard to get us booked on another cruise during that month but can't find any that have 12 balcony cabins in a row.  See this is why we book 2 years in advance, so we can have this.  If we rebook, they will give each of us $100 onboard credit.  Has anyone had this happen to them before?  Did you get a better offer to rebook?

  8. Biggest group I have travelled with is eight (all family members). I find it better, especially on embarkation to split up into smaller groups, explore and do our own thing.

If you board early and make your way to the Windjammer in time for opening (11:30 I believe), you will stand a good chance of securing one of the large tables that accommodate about eight, possibly ten. Plus you can grab other tables nearby so that you are in close proximity.

There is always a chance that wherever you choose to go, it may not go according to plan so be prepared to be flexible and split up if necessary. I find the first day can get a little hectic as everyone is trying to find their way around so managing a large group could get difficult. Even practical things like everyone getting onto a lift at the same time. In our case, some fitter members of group would take the stairs and we would agree to meet at the entrance if we planned to eat together.

    Thanks for the advice. :)

  9. We too are taking a 8B cruisetour in August and are thrilled to see all your info you have posted. At the Fairbanks airport, did you take a taxi on your own or is there a RCCL shuttle to the hotel? When do you give your guides/driver their tips--each day or the last day? Where there any restaurants that you walked to from the hotels that you would recommend? Thanks again for posting.
