  1. When we booked our upcoming October sailing on Seaside we booked it under the 'All In' rate. I understand this includes drinks  (easy package) and wifi. At the time I was told we would have to pay 15% per drink but now I'm seeing conflicting info. Has anyone recently sailed with the all in package? Were there any additional taxes or gratuities per drink? Also, wondering if the wifi is 2 devices per stateroom or per passenger. Thanks

  2. We ended up doing the amazing river and shopping. We snorkelled through two caves, had a nice local lunch followed by tequila tasting and then shopping. The guides were great and I felt like it was a good trip for the money but its hard to know how it compared to the secret river. There were two groups of 10 booked on our tour and it looked like The secret river tour had closer to 75.

  3. I'll be in Cozumel on the Glory in July. I'm looking for a cenote excursion, preferable one that allows you to float or snorkel through a cenote. Other than the secret river "Rio Secreto" what else is out there. Any recommendations are appreciated, if I don't find anything else I'll likely book the secret river through the cruise line.

  4. I thought I would share my experience on this excursion since information has been very limited. We signed up for this excursion on the Regal Princess.

After a rough ride on the ferry from Cozumel, we arrived in Playa Del Carmen and were divided into groups of 10. We were assigned to a van, a driver and our tour guide Cedric. Shout out to Cedric. We really liked him. He went out of his way to make it fun and to give a helping hand when things got a little challenging. The van was comfortable, clean and cool. They gave us a bottle of water and we set off to our first stop, the cenotes. The ride wasn't very long by mainland standards.

I think we got to the cenotes is around 25 minutes. They are located on private property and the tour company rents out a couple of the 12 cenotes on the families property for their customers to use, so it isn't very crowded. The have restrooms, but they lack toilet seats and you are not permitted to flush any paper.

You are given a life vest or snorkeling belt and you go down steep narrow steps into the hole in the ceiling of the cave down into the underworld. The water was a comfortable temperature to me, but some found it chilly. It is dark, but there are several lights on the walls and our guide had a flashlight. You snorkel thru the cave. Its very peaceful and calming, with the exception of the masks fogging up, which could get frustrating. It is very clear water and you can see the ground. There are some catfish and bats. The bats kept to their own. There is a slight current. I recommend wearing water shoes.

After the cenotes, we were giving a snack of organic cookies and a banana and then set off to visit with the turtles. Again, the ride was not more than 15 minutes. We arrived at the beach and were given fins and a life jacket and divided into two groups. We had to walk thru a lot of seaweed, some of which had dried and had gnats around it..not pleasant, however we were told that it happens every year in april and would be there for another month then it would go away. We had to climb up a ladder into the boat. The last step is pretty high, and the railing didn't come up high enough to make it easy to get on the boat. We were taken a couple of minutes off shore and jumped off the boat into the water. The water was a little rough. We did see one turtle and some reef and a few fish. I wouldn't consider it a good snorkeling area. Getting back into the boat was challenging. Our guide helped with getting our fins off so we could climb up the ladder, which was much more difficult with the boat moving in the waves.

We were then taken to a restaurant on the beach for a fajita lunch. The food was included with our excursion, and was very good. I don't remember the name of the restaurant. The tour normally goes to a different one, but there was a wedding there that day. Lunch came with two drinks, Including alcoholic beverages as options, but you couldn't get a soda. Once again, you weren't permitted to flush paper in the rest room. Does that happen everywhere in Playa Del Carmen?

We had an hour of free time to walk along 5th avenue and check out the shops etc. We were then driven back the dock and given our ticket for the ferry to go back to our ship.

I'll be sailing on Carnival in a few weeks and I don't think they offer this excursion. Do you think its offered privately? Do you remember the name of the cenote or anything that would help me find it. Carnival offers a tour to the secret river "Rio Secreto" that I will likely book if I can't find any cenotes.

  5. We have a pharmacist in Waterloo Ont. who has prepared enough capsules of Meclizine in capsule form for our upcoming cruise.

    Hi neighbour, we’re from kitchener.

Our pharmacist at shoppers drug Mart was able to place a mass order for bonine. Until now I’ve always stocked up when we’re over the border.

In response to the original question. I am also very prone to motion sickness and after trying everything I’m now loyal to Bonine ( meclazine).

I’ve only tried the patch twice but both times I experienced nausea and vertigo like symptoms after returning home from the cruise.

Dramamine (gravol) works well but makes me sleepy. It’s not recommended to combine the medications but I often take Bonine during the day and then Dramamine at night.

  6. Same menu on the AOS last week. I didn’t like the new do it yourself Caesar and provided feedback. They bring a stalk of uncut lettuce with dressing drizzled over it. Upon request they will cut it up for you. We found the menu to be more limited than in the past and it appears they are trying to cut corners but in the end our dinners took just as long if not longer than usual.

  7. No one I know has the 15-drink-coffee-card, so I’m afraid I can’t help with your 1 punch vs. 2 punch question. I am glad I purchased the Refreshment Package when it was on sale 6 months ago. I’ve used it for lots of bottled water, iced coffee, Diet Coke, and a couple of non-alcoholic frozen concoctions.

Does the refreshment package include things that can be taken off the ship, like vitamin water or juice?

  8. I’d recommend once or at the most twice a week for FaceTime. I find it hard to truly relax and not have the kids constantly on my mind if it’s more than that. We leave the kids a little surprise to open each day while we’re gone. My kids are teenagers now but the ritual continues with a little treat each day when we’re away.

Enjoy your alone time with your hubby. We joke that our trips are cheaper than the cost of marriage counseling.

  9. Thanks. Another question.....traveling with my 19 year old daughter. In canada she’s allowed to drink alcohol. I’ve heard conflicting answers from RCL about signing an authorization when onboard allowing her to have an occasional glass of wine while at sea. Has anyone had any experience with this on the AOS?

  10. Hi, I am the original poster! I sat by the railing on Deck 4 and watched the scene below on Deck 3 as the guy used the laptop at the dinner table.

Has anyone ever seen the 2 gentlemen who dress up in over-the-top outfits every night with matching purses? I saw them in 2013 on the Serenade and they won the award for most days cruising. On formal night they dressed as Indian princes or pashas or some kind of royalty, with shiny turbans (I believe they were Scandinavian). With all their cruising, you must have seen them. Their pocketbooks were adorable.

We’ve sailed with them twice and spotted them a third time walking in San Juan. Even when they aren’t cruising the fluorescent tank tops were easy to spot.

  11. Most disgusting - we were seated in the MDR with a lovely young family. Mom, dad and two young girls. While enjoying our entrees the oldest girl (6years old) started to vomit on the table. Within a few minutes the 3 year old joined her.

Strangest- dining with a gentleman that brought his own tin foil to wrap up his leftovers to take back to his cabin for later.
