  1. I'm thinking about taking a cruise by myself on the Panorama. I was wondering, when the gratuities are added in, does Carnival charge for 2 people in a cabin rather than one? I need to factor that into my budget. I'm thinking the cabin steward is kind of cheated out of another person's gratuities since there's only one in the cabin.

    Thanks!

We didn't notice vibration aft on the Royal class ships.  We've had aft suites on the Aloha deck on the Royal and Caribe deck on the Majestic, both narrower balconies, and the soot was the same on both. Riviera is one deck up from where we have been and does have a larger balcony with more cover.  Remember though that it's not an everyday occurrence and I still think that even with the soot it is still an amazing place to be when sailing on one of these ships.

Riviera deck would be ideal, but what is the cover over the balcony like? As much as on Dolphin deck?

This is the worst soot we saw and it is a Dolphin deck balcony directly below our's on the Majestic Princess.  It happened the last two days of the cruise and I took these pictures on our final morning on board.  Since our Caribe deck had less cover, it had more soot and our Steward took in the seat cushions every day.  Even with this problem though i would not hesitate to book one of these again.  The views are amazing!

Thanks for that 'heads up' regarding the soot. I'll take that into consideration when booking. The pictures really help!

I don't think that you will find one that is 75% covered.  But the wider ones will have more cover such as those on Riviera, Baja, or Dolphin decks.  We've stayed in the narrower balcony aft suites on the Majestic and Royal so we've experienced minimal cover situations.  Keep in mind that at some point on your voyage you'll experience soot on your balcony.  Some days it's minimal and others it can be quite heavy.

Thank you so much; your reply really helps.

  5. The hubby and I are looking at Mexican Riviera cruises out of L.A. next November. Hopefully, most will have had the vaccine and there won't be any social distancing/masks required. Would like to cruise earlier, but just not sure about earlier in the year.

Great news!  Glad it went well! Yes, asking for wheelchair both boarding and disembarking is important - that's a very long walk to get off the ship - and then no benches, etc to grab.  And standing in lines, etc. If you are assisted off, it's quick and easy - usually through luggage pickup, Customs and out to your bus area, pick up waiting point, taxi, etc.  Makes life much easier!  I have a scooter at home and rent one for the ship - and it has completely changed my life. I don't need it in the house as I can walk 10 steps or so, but going to a store, a show, restaurant, etc are impossible.  As much as I hate to admit the age and disability - these aids make life so much more pleasant for BOTH my husband and me!!  I'm glad we have them!!  Keep in touch!

Hi Balboa 79! I just wanted to check with you and see how you're doing. You were so kind last year in giving me advice. Hope you are well - Take care!

The balcony follows the shape of the stern...it doesn't jut out at all. Nothing odd or unusual about the shape. The balcony is not that deep...maybe 10 or 12 feet, but the wrap around feature ends up giving you a great, large balcony on two sides of the ship.

Bruce, the balcony on Koningsdam suite 7087 is not the one you're describing. Check out a layout of the ship, Schubert Deck, and you will see what I mean.

Been in 7088 on the other side. No strange angle. It is a wrap around balcony...very nice. Besides the window/door facing aft, there is a window facing the side of the ship, which makes the view much better and makes the room seem larger.

No cons I can think of...we were in it for 21 days. Well, I guess some might complain its too far a walk to the Neptune Lounge.

We, separately (on Eurodam), have sailed down the Mexican Rivera in late October. It will likely be very hot the further south you go...Puerto Vallarta was warmer and more humid than the Panama Canal. It is the end of hurricane season...so no one can predict.

Thanks for your comment. Still wanting to find out about the angled balcony, hope someone will answer.

    Happy New Year!

  9. DH and I are getting ready to book Neptune Suite 7087 on the Koningsdam. I notice that the balcony juts out on an angle, thus giving the balcony a larger size. I'm wondering if anyone has been in this suite? What are the pros and cons? Additionally, we'll be doing the Mexican Riviera in October 2020  and I'm worried about the weather that time of year. Anyone out there who has done this cruise in October, I'd love to hear from. Many thanks for your comments!

Thanks for your encouragement, we had a wonderful cruise. No problems to speak of, my hubby handled his rollator very well. I wish I had asked for a wheelchair at disembarkation, but other than than things went smoothly. Your support is greatly appreciated.

It is much easier using a rollator especially on grass, cobblestones etc (make sure you have your hands on the brakes!)

The rollator is probably better for balance problems as I usually had to use both hands on a walker and the rollator, being heavier and with four wheels, could be manuvered with one hand.

The advice about a (rented) scooter on the ship is good advice too - and handy on tours if the bus can handle it

Thank you! It's going to be a rollator.
