  1. Thanks - I didn't see any option to change the duration of the tour into Denali. We are booked now, with the BA3 cruisetour option. The itinerary shows we have the "Natural History Tour" from 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. I would love to change that into a longer / all-day tour of Denali, but did not see that as an option when I booked. Any suggestions? Thanks!

When i went i booked directly through the park then called Princess and cancelled the included tour. Got the price back applied to cruise cost.

  2. What is the longer excursion option into Denali that you mentioned? Is that a different land tour option?

There are three tours into Denali that are guided. Basically 4, 8 and 12 hours. You drive in for half the time then back out. You want at least the 8 hour to get as much seen as possible in terms of scenery/wildlife. That said the 12 hour one is often not running in May due to impassable roads higher up.

  3. Western Digital makes a bunch of wireless hard drives. They’re designed to store from SD cards and to transmit to iPad/computer etc so you can review your shots. Full disclosure it didn’t work well for me but i think it’s because i didn’t give it enough of a chance. And the person trying to teach me how to use it at Best Buy had no idea either.

Anyway this is an example of what i mean though there are a couple models/storage sizes

  4. Wrong on so many fronts!!!

Please keep your own detergents and fabric softeners at home. Don't you realize that the waste water from the laundry is discharged overboard? Some lines do provide biodegradable laundry products. Is yours "ocean safe?"

As for the condition of the towels on any particular line: you get what you pay for. In the modern world of tourist hospitality, any daily charge that is less than $200-$300 per day is cutting corners somewhere.

Sorry, can’t use what they provide on the ship. I can’t do dyes or perfumes at all. I’ll spend the rest of the cruise itching and rashy. And needing steroids. I’ll keep bringing my dye free pods.

  5. Excellent!! That’s what I wanted to hear. I often travel solo so was prepared to pay for my cabin and then theirs. And was planning on a connecting one. But if I can book the 18 year old alone then the 12 with me I can adjust once on board. Their parents are not coming-at least not on my dime [emoji4]

  6. I would think the OP knows to get written permission from both parents to take their 12 year old niece.

But the 18 year old, while not requiring anyone's permission to sail, must (according to Princess) room with a cabinmate at least age 21 as they are not sailing with their so-called "legal guardians" (which in the real world, someone in Club18-20 legally no longer has).

You're going to need a good TA who knows an inside contact at Princess to do the workaround to be able to book two cabins.

Yes, I will have a notarized letter allowing travel and medical decisions. I do have a TA, she’s been fine for me but maybe I’ll pick the brains of others on my next cruise for other names. It would be nice if 18 could be acknowledged as ok to be the adult.

  7. " For family groups booking multiple staterooms, the minimum age for each stateroom is 16 years of age, provided they are traveling with a parent or legal guardian. "

Not certain if you meet the definition of legal guardian. What you can do is book two cabins next to or across the hall from each other with one adult over 21 and one youth in each cabin. You may want to check out connecting cabins. Then once on board move around as you like. You can get extra cabin cards from passenger services.

Unfortunately that is not an option as I will be the only adult going. But thanks for the thought.

  8. Thanks for the info. I’m all prepared to get a notarized letter allowing me to travel with them. Though once the older girl turns 18 she’s legal to get on the plane without parental approval.

As for the bunks-I can hear the complaints now about who has to sleep up. Maybe I can do a family booking, or maybe it’s time to try a suite[emoji6]

  9. Hello all

I’m planning on taking my nieces for a cruise to coincide with high school graduation for one and Bat Mitzvah for the other. They will be 18 and 12 at the time of sailing. Is 18 old enough for me to book them a separate room? Or will we need to be together? I’d really like to not share all three to a room as I’m guessing we will need alone time (I know I will).

    Thanks for any advice

  10. I guess you haven't heard the news. Civility is dead! Gone! Forgotten. So why should cruise critic be different. Just look at some of the posts around CC and it is all apparent. You have folks justifying wearing baseball caps (often backwards) in the dining room. Don;t they know that good manners means that men do not wear hats indoors (except in a few places such as Sports Bars). Folks ignore dress codes/guidelines...because they just don't "wanna do it." People sit at dining room tables with other passengers and spend part of their meal on their cell phone. Some passengers think nothing is wrong with trying save 32 seats in the theater for somebody (often they do not even know who they are saving the seats for...and those folks fail to show-up anyway). Passengers cram into elevators without allowing others to first exit. Folks cut in lines without any hesitation. Yes, civility is dead replaced by "Me Me Me Me!"

That is a sadly valid point.

  11. I’ve been reading/lurking for years. Post here and there. I still think it’s a great site for info but, yes, more complaining.

The other thing I notice more is the rudeness in the answers. Not enough to not answer or just give a civil reply. Instead it’s “that’s a bad question” or “you’re wrong” or “why didn’t you search first”.

I think the whole treat others as you would want to be treated falls sadly by the wayside these days. What’s wrong with civility?

  12. "I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I cannot do that. I cannot let you in your room right now."

“Shall we play a game?” Yes, I know different movie but still applicable.

Question for those disappointed....if it was ship wide and broke just how mad would you be then. Imagine 3000 passengers and 1000+ crew all having to change back to cards. The lines for tenders will never look so short.

  13. I also have the Chase preferred but have thought about switching to reserved for travel credit. Getting 2x points on travel and food is great. And it does mean all restaurants. I'm planning on using my points toward flights for next years TA.

As an aside I also have the Southwest card as they are my go to for domestic travel. They've got a great signing bonus too if you spend enough in first three months. Something like 50k points.

  14. Exactly. What would the complainers do if they missed the glaciers due to weather? Or there was too much rain/fog to view them? Or too much ice to get near safely? Would your trip be ruined then too? Demand money due to Mother Nature?

Sadly the answer to the last question is likely yes these days.

I had more rain days then not on a Norwegian fjords cruise. That's life I may try again.

Someone lost their life. Demanding compensation seems the definition of petty.

  15. We are on the Royal, TA, 14 nights out of Barcelona in October... thinking of doing the buffet on the two ports where we are in port very late... Gilbrater and a port in the Canary Islands... thought might be nice to watch the sun set and enjoy a simple meal. Wonder if the menu changes every night in the buffet or is it the same? On Celebrity the menu is basically the same in the buffet every day/night.

The menu changes. They even have theme nights. German night is especially good IMHO. I ate quite a few meals there in lieu of MDR and was very happy.

  16. Interesting thread. That I'm coming late to. I'm all for technology and want to try it. Questions, though, if anyone knows answers.

    1) do you get a medallion for each cruise or are you expected to not lose it between cruises?

    2) if new on each time I'm guessing you don't have to reprogram your preferences?

    3) please tell me these touchscreens around the ship aren't going to light up as I go past with my name and offers like some sort of sci-fi movie. Cause that I'd hate.

    Thanks.

  17. No one is excusing the murderer. I'm just saying that we are not privy to any of their personal relationship details and that things may not be as they appear on the surface. Everyone is assuming that the husband was a wife beater or otherwise an abuser. It's entirely possible that the opposite may be true. Either way, he murdered her and THAT is inexcusable.

I acknowledge we don't know all the details. But if their daughter really did say she knew her dad would do this one day it certainly does look like it's happened before.

I'm no psychiatrist or human health practitioner and certainly don't understand the dynamics of why women stay with abusers. But it looks like another tragedy from DV.

    Horrible all around.

  18. Unless, since we don't know ANY of the particulars of their private relationship, it turns out that it was a case of verbal and pychological abuse or bullying by the wife, directed at the husband, and he just finally went off on her, spectacularly. He did state that she wouldn't stop laughing at him. I'm sure that there's precedent. We don't know either way and it's none of our business, but it could happen.

Please say you're not serious? I don't deny women can be just as verbally abusive as men (often more so) but that is not and will never been an excuse for murder.

She's being mean? He's being mean? Walk away, shut a door between you until you've calmed down. No calming then best to rethink your relationship.

    Violence= never.
