  1. We enjoy the spa balcony, but only DH goes to the spa. So, we generally don't get one. BUT....I would NOT recommend getting one on 11, there is no cover on the balconies on 11. We had one on 11 a week it rained A LOT! Made for limited use, for sure!

Good to know. I am new to Carnival so I have a lot of learning and research to do!

  2. would both you and your husband be using the spa?

you can buy a day pass if only you would buy it.

deck 12 balcony is uncovered located all the way forward.

I would probably use it more then him. The location of the cabins is what I am afraid of. I like my mid-ship cabins and get I will feel more motion in the forward if the ship.

  3. We are thinking of doing a land/sea vacation next spring, and are looking at a 3 day on the Dream next May. Would prefer the 3 day sailing over 4 day sailing to avoid the theme parks on the weekend.

Would love to hear your thoughts about a 3 day sailing, is it to short and just a waste of money? This would be our first time on Disney. Have sailed RCCL, NCL and Celebrity in the past.

  4. I am currently holding a booking for a 7 day sailing on the Fantasy in May 2019.

This will be our first Disney cruise, and need help to understand how their gratuities work - are they automatically added to your onboard account? What are the typical daily amounts? Any other helpful info is greatly appreciated!

My advice, since you are staying in the area hotel - likely less than 45 minutes or 1 hour to the pier, is to not rush & get there that early - check the ship's AIS tracking for its location around 6:30 to 7 AM, to see whether she's docked yet or still cruising thru the Lower Bay of NY, VZ Bridge or just past SOL to go north on the Hudson, that's another 30 to 60 minutes before docking & 30+ more minutes before ship is cleared & the first wave of pax are usually allowed to come off ... assuming there's no USCG and CBP or PHS safety/port inspection, etc. as that will further delay embarkation.

There is plentiful, plenty of roof-top parking and as long as you get there around 9 to 9:30 AM, you should be fine - assuming ships is docked - and you will be thru security & check-in by 10 to 10:30 - depending on your boarding status, the earliest group isn't going to on any soon than 11 AM ... keep in mind that 4,500 pax has to come off first.

    Enjoy your cruise !

Thanks for the tip. Will definitely track the ships position early Sunday morning, I wasn't aware of such a tracking device!

We are not concerned about boarding, it's the parking that concerns us as we are travelling with 2 cars

  7. Looking for suggestions for any beaches worth checking out in St. George, other then Tobacco Bay. I understand that this one is the most popular, but just wondering if there are any others worth going to.

Also, are any beaches walking distance from where the NCL ferry will drop off - assuming its close to where the Bermuda ferry from Dockyard disembarks.

What would a typical cab ride cost from the ferry terminal to Tobbaco Bay?

  8. We were in Bermuda that same week 2 years ago. It was warm enough to wear shorts, tank tops and sandals. However, there was this crazy strong wind that was blowing for the full 3 days we were in port. It made for a difficult time to enjoy the beach while we were being pelted with sand and Portuguese Man O War blowing in.

  9. We sailed out of Manhattan Cruise Terminal 2 years ago, and at that time the parking lot opened at 7am. We were the first car in line and were even there before the parking attendants started their shift! We waited a few minutes and then had our car sniffed by the security dogs and paid for parking shortly after. We were parked and sitting in the Cruise Terminal just before 8am. We ended up arriving early as we drove overnight from southern Ontario.

This year we are staying overnight in New Jersey, 20 minutes from the pier.

My question is, within the past few months/weeks what has everyone's experience been in regards to Manhattan Cruise Terminal parking opening times and being allowed in to park. Just want to get an idea of what time to leave our hotel to ensure we get parking at the pier.

  10. It looks like you're trying to get to the Breakaway on a Sunday morning from I80. Absolutely use the GW Bridge unless there is some sort of huge traffic mess (1010 or 880 AM for traffic reports) which is unlikely on a Sun morning.

If you end up on the upper bridge, you want to be in the far right lane and take the very first exit at the end of the bridge to get onto the Henry Hudson Parkway South. If you end up on the lower bridge, you want to be in the far left lane to take the very first exit onto the Henry Hudson Parkway South.

The HH Pkwy/West Side Hwy ends at the Manhattan Cruise terminal. Couldn't be easier.

Thanks for the tips. How do you chose what level you get on? I guess you pay your toll before you get on the bridge?

  11. Looking for feedback on crossing into New York from the George Washington Bridge. What's traffic, roads, etc. Like once you cross into NY?

We crossed via the Lincoln Tunnel in 2015 and missed our turn due to traffic and being unfamiliar with the area. Had to back track a bit and was nervous for few minutes!

Any feedback or tips for the areas are appreciated!

  12. Hello,

This spring we will be driving down, from Southern Ontario, to board the Breakaway in Manhattan. We are planning on arriving one night prior and would like to book a hotel right off of the I-80, in New Jersery, no more then 45 minutes away from the Manhattan Pier.

Can anyone recommend a hotel they may have stayed at along this route. I assume the closer to Manhattan, the higher the cost, however would like to hear everyone's experience to help with our choice.

We did the drive in 2015, but it was overnight and we can't recall what we saw along the route!

    Thanks!

  13. I was on the May 24 sailing and we had stateroom 13836, with the angled balcony. I was in the room with my husband and 9 year old. We had 2 other family members in an inside cabin so they would come visit and use our balcony and there was plenty of space for everyone.

Great location as it's mid-ship and close walking distance to stairs, elevators and the buffet!

Highly recommend the angled balcony if you can get one.

  14. We are getting ready to do our first NCL cruise and we were confused because we can schedule to arrive at the port well before the time it says to arrive - (can schedule to be there at 9:30, but it says not to arrive more than 1 hour before boarding time)... Any ideas about this - do you wait at the port? can you actually get on board? Thanks!

I was on the May 24th sailing and we drove in from Ontario. We were at the port at 6:30 in the morning and they allowed us to drive up to the parking lot. We actually beat the parking attendant to work! They made us park at the top of the ramp and when the attendant came, just after 7am, they let us pay and park.

We then sat in the cruise terminal until we boarded around 11:30am. It was a lot of waiting for us but we gave ourselves plenty of driving time, just in case.
