  1. Think I just answered your question on another board as well. Just to clarify, you put your iphone in Airplane Mode (ON) but keep WiFi enabled, connected to the Pearl internet (limited access only) while not in port to avoid any roaming charges. Sorry to say, the price has increased from ($7 to $8.95).

It's worth the extra $2. We'll still be activating it Sunday. WOOHOO!

  2. Can anyone comment on tennis onboard? Is it worth bringing our racquets or will we just be disappointed?

Also, what is a towel exchange?

And did anyone use the Norwegian iConcierge app onboard?

Looking forward to sailing in just 20 days!

    ~ Nancy :)

Towel exchange: You bring the pool towel down from your room and get a fresh one.

App: Very convenient. Free for daily info and making reservations, menus, etc. $8.95 per phone for text and calls between app while on board. Helpful for groups, or people who like to wander off and have alone time.

  3. We had the same fears...

$7 per person enables the calls and texting. It does not enable wifi, just access to the app.

I turn off Data Roaming so that I don't accidentally get into international service.

BTW: The app gives a constant update on your ship account. You'll know if they slip up and go international.

  4. I used the app last year on the Getaway. I like being able to verify reservations while hanging out on deck. We also paid the $7 each for chat and calls. The kid's club would contact via the app if they needed to find us. Pretty convenient!

The app is free, you just have to pay for messenger and phone.

    Question

Can we bring our own soda?

asked 3 months, 2 weeks ago by Anonymous on Caribbean Cruises

Yes, you are allowed to bring your own sodas, juices and water. You can check them or carry them on board. The products must be sealed or risk confiscation by the security. Make sure you tag them with your room tags so that they are delivered to your stateroom along with your luggage.

In some ports, they will not check in your soda/water cases with your bags but you can still carry them onboard with you.

  6. Boarding time for the Pearl at ports of call.

When the itinerary says the ship departs Juneau, what is the latest time we need to be back on the ship?

    From NCL.com

Boarding Time in Ports of Call:

In all ports of call, it is also the guest's responsibility to be back onboard the ship no later than one (1) hour prior to the ship's scheduled departure time. Please be aware that shipboard time may differ from the port of call and it is the guest's responsibility to follow the shipboard time. In the event a guest misses the ship, it will be the guest's responsibility to pay all expenses incurred to rejoin the ship.

  7. So, we like to eat with our kiddo, and not subject her to the buffet again for dinner (she was good with it for breakfast, lunch was not her fave.) So, we did move all our ressies to 5:30. Some people like the idea of their kiddo doing the buffet and then the parents go to dinner after 7 while the kiddo is in splash academy. Mine would have been po'd to miss Teppenyaki, Moderno, Le Bistro, La Cucina, and Cagneys... we ate at all of them for dinner... and the Asian food place (which is free now), and they were all sooo very good. And she could order off the adult menu and get what she wanted. So that is why we did dinners at 5:30.

DS saw my MOULES POULETTE AU PERNOD at Le Bistro on our 1st cruise (age 7) and promptly told the waiter he did not like his starter and wanted mussel soup. We had it again last summer (8). We shall have it again this time (9).

  8. Instead of your sandals, because you will feel cold, and since you mentioned Toms, have you tried their ballet flats? I absolutely adore mine. I have some ribbons and some leathers. They look great with dresses.

I'm in Indy. I do not plan on bringing sandals. This thread and some pictures of others made me realize that I need to get our gloves out of winter storage.

  9. This dining strategy works best for our family. We take our youngest to dine early at the buffet while we sip cocktails. We head to the kids club when she's done just in time for when the club opens, then we head off to the restaurant. It's not rushed, she's not bored, so everyone gets what they like.

We've done this. But, I've also witnessed other parents whose kids refused to leave to go eat. There were picnics on the Getaway last summer in the hall just outside. A parent has to do what a parent has to do. ;) The good thing is that you know they are having a blast when they are upset with you for pulling them out.

    It's their vacation, too.

  10. Dailies would be super! We always end up getting wrapped up in our excursions and dinners, We miss out on things. Heck, I've heard there's a lobster night, a chocoholics night, but 3 cruises later, we've never been.

    Thanks in advance!
