  1. Be prepared to LOVE YOUR OWN CABIN!!! :D And once you have a solo cabin it's hard to share afterwards.

I agree with this. My last 9 cruises I have had my room to myself. My next planned cruise I am taking 2 of my nephews and a friend of thiers. I am dreading having 4 in a room.

I am a smoker, so I hang out at smoking bars. It is always crowded so have plenty of chances to strike up conversations. I have met so wonderful people. Even people I have arranged future cruises with.

  2. No, you cannot. In my experience if you have Cheers they won't let you buy anything off the plan. No more buckets of beer, etc, even if you are willing to pay (and are relatively sober).

Yes you can if you buy them before you hit the 15 limit. Around 12 or 13, tell the bartender you want to pay for the drinks. Save your last couple of program drinks for right before bed time.

  3. Fastest way to break big notes is at the casino cashier as there is never a big queue :)

You can only get Ten $1 bills at a time but if you break a Hundred into 10 ones and a few 20,s you can just break a $20 each day into one $10 and Ten $1,s:)

If you are a big tipper and Ten $1,s isnt enough each day for over and above tipping you can queue up at guest services for the privelage :D

I have gotten 40 ones at a time from the casino cage.

  4. I actually prefer an interior over ocean view. I like the darkness of the room. My last cruise I had ocean view. Even when I stayed up till 3 am, I still woke up around 7:30 due to the light. We will see if the positive of the balcony overcomes the negative of the light.

I had an ocean view one other time. It was one with the couch, which made it a bigger room. That was nice since it was me and 2 nephews.

  5. Just received the call. My first 12 cruises no calls. My 13th got a call from the upgrade fairy. Went from riviera porthole to riviera ocean view. This time it was up sell fairy. Went from main interior to lido balcony. 350. This will be my first balcony. It is on the 8 day Freedom out of Fort Lauderdale March 22. I am cruising solo.

    I think I got a decent deal.

  6. My hubs and I buy 5 cartons each as soon as we set sail (I bring a few packs with me in case they don't have my brand and also bring my e-cig). We take them back to the cabin and pack em up. I buy Marlboro Reds for a brother in New York at about $25.00 a carton vs $100.00 in NY. I'm his favorite sister.

I declare ALL the cartons we buy, but have been lucky and never had to pay duty on them back in the US.

    Have fun on your cruise!

I buy my 5 cartons right away also. I was surprised on the Elation out of New Orleans that the shops didn't open till the 2nd day. I think it was due to how long it takes to get out of the Mississippi river.

I generally have a carton smoked on the cruise so I only declare 4 cartons. I have never had to pay duty on the either.

  7. just heard that prices went up at least on the Splendor. 5 cartons for $160. but that's still breaks down to 32 a carton. and those were Marlboro. unless you live down south, buy enough to get him through till the shops open once out to sea and purchase them on the ship. your allowed one duty free carton. the others if you bring any back with you, you'll pay duty taxes and that depends on what port. also, the agent may or may not charge you. same with liquor

I had heard the rumors of increased cigarette prices also. I had previously paid either 105 or 120 per 5 carton pack. I was on the Elation out of New Orleans February 27th and the price I paid was 128. Still a great deal.

  8. What was the offer? Did you take it?

Man I messed this post up. Looks like I typed the whole message in the title.

I was sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to New Orleans for my cruise tomorrow on the Elation when I received the call.

Not a great upgrade, but just glad to receive the call. I moved from a porthole room R3 to an ocean view room R115 at no cost.

I accepted because it was free. I generally don't care about the room. I mainly use the room for sleep only.

The only reason I had a porthole, is because it was the same cost as an interior. Though I would check it out.

  9. Just wondered how exactly one knows that there is no single supplement?? Do you have to do a blind search on everything individually and wait until you stumble upon one with zero supplement?? Basically...what am I looking for???

I have heard there is a list on the Carnival website. The way I look for it is to do a search for the time frame I am looking at going putting in 1 passenger. The no solo supplement ones will be at the top.

  10. A special for only you or can anyone call and get this special? It seems really odd, a special buy 2 rooms, get 4?? What's with Carnival lately and these odd offers that aren't listed??

That is not really the special. What it is is that they removed the solo supplement. It will cost the same for 4 people in 2 rooms or 4 people in 4 rooms.

  11. I have always previously cruised with my husband but since he jumped ship (divorced) I am looking at booking a cruise for just myself, looking at the sept 28 conquest out of Miami, looks like it is 579, am I going to have to pay more as a single guest?

    Thanks

Yes, I just did mock booking. Looks like you are looking at an ocean view. For 2 people booking it is $579 per person. For 1 person booking it is double at $1158 per person. It is early saver so there is a chance that when it gets closer they might drop the solo supplement and you can get the price reduction if before final payment or OBC if after final payment.

  12. thanks...one more question, if i do get a price drop with new sale rate does that change my booking? I have read so many different things on CC regarding price drops that I am a little confused. Will i still stay Premiere or will it change to now is the time sale? thanks

You will be changed to the new sale. You will probably lose any perks you had with the Premiere booking also such as free drinks in the casino if that was included and any OBC that the might have offered. Basically what you are doing is canceling your previous cruise and rebooking.

  13. The largest is when I book a solo 3 day cruise on the Inspiration. I already had $50 OBC from booking it on another cruise. Carnival ended up dropping the solo supplement and I got an additional $321 OBC. A couple of weeks later the fare dropped another $70. I have a total of $441 OBC for a 3 day cruise in an inside room. I still have a couple months to get more OBC, but I don't think I will.

  14. I would never ever do this. What has happened to MY WORD IS MY BOND? Or am I being old fashioned? I do know that among my circle of close friends none would bale out on a commitment to share cost, but perhaps we are all old fashioned.

I agree with you on this.

  15. I was able to price match on my April 18th cruise on the Inspiration. I booked this cruise back in November. couple weeks ago I noticed that they dropped the solo supplement. I called the 800 number and got $321 OBC for a 3 day cruise.
