  1. We are booked for the Joy on March 22nd.  We have not made a final decision if we will cancel or not, but are leaning towards cancelling.  There are many reasons why we are likely to make that choice.  and very few reasons why we  would not cancel.  However, we will not make a final choice until  Wednesday, the 18th.  That is well within the 48 hour cancellation, but also gives us time to pack and drive from Upper Michign to Green Bay, WI  where we will catch a plane to LA on Saturday, the 21s

I would really like to hear from people who are on the Joy now or will be next week.,  Are you able to get into the ports?  How is life on the ship any different than any other cruise?  Has there been any mention (threat?) of quarantine?  Please tell me anything that might help us make a decision--both pro and con.  Thank you very much.

  2. Thanks to all who answered my question about fridges in ocean view rooms. I now have three more questions.

Will the ship be on the same time as San Juan (which I know is an hour later than here in Michigan).

Will we need a converter to use outlets in San Juan hotel? (We are staying at the Hyatt Plaza.)

We plan on boarding the Carnival Fascination between 1 and 1:30. We will get something to eat and then get back off the ship for awhile. If we do that, will we need to get in line behind people who are just checking in or will there be a line for people returning to the ship?

    Thanks very much!

  3. On our previous cruises, we have always had a balcony stateroom which had a refrigerator, On this cruise (end of September--to Canada), it just doesn't seem worth the extra $400 per person. So--does anyone know if the 6B Oceanview cabins (particularly 1484 and 1488) have the mini-fridges? (I know they do not keep things really cold.)

Or--can anyone tell me how I can find the answer to that question?

    Thanks

  4. We leave on a Carnival cruise on September 24th and hope to spend two or 3 nights in New York before the cruise. One hotel we are considering is The La Quinta on 32nd Street. A room for two people is $229.49 plus tax, so two nights would be $533.68 and three nights would be $800.52.

I think we re going to book that one (with good cancellation policy) and then continue to look. (We will be traveling with two other couples.

Thanks so much for all the input. Anything else you can tell me would be very welcome. We are thinking of taking the Super shuttle from LGA to our hotel. Does that Super Shuttle go to the Manhattan Cruise Port? I know one thing we will do is take one of the on--off buses.

    Thanks again.

  5. Thanks to all of you for your answers. I will continue to look for a hotel in Manhattan I am willing to pay for. WE will be in in September, and it looks like that is prime time. What seemed expensive to me when I first started looking no longer seems so much!

    Thanks again,

  6. Hi,

We are thinking of booking the La Quinta Inn and Suites at 437 Union Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. (It is opening in May.) We will most likely fly into Laguardia and it looks like arranging transportation from the airport to the hotel will not be a problem.

My question is this: Does anyone know if there are subway and/or bus stations within easy walking distance the hotel? (We will want to do some in Manhattan and perhaps other areas.)

Also, how far is this hotel from the cruise terminal that Carnival uses?

Thank you for any help you can give me,

  7. Hi, We will be on the Sunshine on the 24th of September also and are looking at a few days in New York. We have not booked air yet, but might fly into La Guardia. I know hotels there are really expensive, but I keep hoping to find something in Manhattan that we can afford for three nights. Please let me know what you find, and I will do the same.

    Thanks

We will be in NYC on September 21 - 24. We are sailing on Carnival Sunshine - flying into Newark plan on staying in Manhattan from Wednesday - Saturday morning. Will take shuttle into Manhattan.

We usually stay at Hampton Inn type hotels - we aren't fancy peeps just like the breakfast option and know what to expect when we stay.

    Thanks

  8. Do you know if the Carnival Sunshine leaves from Cape Liberty or Manhattan? (I might be wrong in even thinking there are two ports in New York.) We will be doing the New England/Canada cruise in the fall and hope to spend two days in New York prior to the cruise.

We do not even know at this point which New York airport we should use or when in New York we should stay.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  9. Hi, We hope to book the New England/Canada cruise on the Sunshine for mid to late September of this year. We have always had a balcony, but are wondering if we would spent much time on it in September, so we are considering an ocean view. We've never had a stateroom below deck 6, and I am concerned about how that would be as MOST ocean views are on decks one and two. When I talked to someone at Carnival, he told me there are obstruction (or partial) ocean views decks 6 and 7. They cost less than those on decks 1 and 2, and that leads me to believe they are less desirable. I would appreciate hearing anyone's opinions on ocean view in general and those with partial view in particular. Thank you for any information you can give me. (A picture of one with obstructed view would be wonderful!)

    Thanks very much.
